Forum name changes

I just watched this video linked on taste your juice (Hi Phil). irrational fear of e-cigarettes is rational! - YouTube

This guy has some very correct thoughts about vaping. So when is this forum, the largest I know of, going to change its name and forum names? It's vaping not E-Smoking. It's a PV not an E-cigarette. It's not smoke it's vapor (I say this almost daily). We need to get all references to smoke and cigarettes out of our culture. It could go a long way to acceptance in the eyes of the general public.

This has come up in on ecf thousands of times. There are a lot of reasons to keep the name ecf.

i don't think it matters what you call them...but when people are just starting out there have no idea what pv even means so if we want them to find us the ecig name and search term has to stay

Actually they are E-Cigarettes. The term PV or Personal Vaporizer comes from the function of the device in that they vaporize the liquid. As far as everyone is concerned they are an electronic cigarette, not a vaporizer. Granted you "vape' them and not "smoke" them but the term "vaping" was invented by us vapers, not the media or FDA, CDC, ect.

The bottom line is that that its like calling a .... a water pipe, yes its technically a pipe but everyone and there mother knows its a ..... When you boil down to it the general public doesn't care if its a electronic cigarette, an E-cig, a PV, a mod, or even a fruit ninja (thanks Phil ^_^), it still looks like smoking and that's all they care about.

I agree that a lot of people only care that it looks like smoking. But calling something that looks like smoking a cigarette only reinforces their irrational ideas. So many of us already made this vocabulary change. Why not support it in our most used forum? So keep the main forum name but at least change the forum titles. Who here doesn't correct someone when they say "what are you smoking" with "I'm not smoking, it's vapor".

I understand how you feel but look at it this way. It humans were sensible enough to understand something as simple as vaping vs. smoking do think they world would be the mess it is? I'm not saying your wrong, in fact I wish more people felt the same way but the truth of the matter is that most anti e-cig people know next to nothing about them. They just get swept up in the mob mentality.

1) Actually they are E-Cigarettes - No, an e-cigarette is just that. Looks Like a Duck and Walks like A duck but Quacks funny.

2)The term PV or Personal Vaporizer comes from the function of the device in that they vaporize the liquid. Correct, so most Mods ARE PV's in that they Vaporize for Personal use.

3) As far as everyone is concerned they are an electronic cigarette, not a vaporizer. Not true. I have already met many many people that were curious as to what my mod were and quickly came to understand and realize they are far more than electronic version of a cigarette.

4) Does not matter if you, me or the FDA starts calling it a MoonPieMelter.............once the name is accepted that is what its moniker becomes.

No, the general Public actually is comprised of You and Me and a whole bunch of people that are concerned on a daily basis as to what is going on around them. Those we take time to educate will most likely become our allies. Antz.......now they are anything but General public. More like spiders or hemorrhoids.

Not just picking at your post. I understand what you are saying and many are frustrated and feeling the same. Fact is There is a lot that we can keep doing to make a difference and people in general are not as indifferent as we have come to accept.

ETA - As to OPs original post............Been there many many times in the past year. I'd prefer different wording, but it is just words after all. People need to find ECF by what ever means.

As was posted, this has been suggested many times. The reason it won't be changed is because many people will want to quit and will Google "Electronic Cigarette." We want them to find us. "Vaping" may be making it's way into the world's vernacular, but not quickly enough.


ETA: However, if given a choice, I like Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalation System.

I agree with the OP 100%.

There's really no reason not to change the forum name, since you could use redirects if needed to make the change simple.

Eliminating the use of the term e-cigarette by the users of the devices would go a long way to eliminating the use of the term among others.

Things change all the time. Adapt or die.

Not valid. Google search uses many things to find results, only one of which is the name of the actual website. If done correctly, changing the name of the forum to something else (i.e. personavaporforum) would have no effect on search results.

For evidence of this, just Google Personal Vapor Forum. This forum is the third item that pops up, ahead of vaporsplace.com and vaportalk.com

I do disagree, but your point is also not valid. Changing the name of the website would have very minimal effect (and likely no effect at all) on people searching for e cigarettes being able to find us (which was your point).
