If you use a Provari, 28 ga will be too much,if its like the Vamo it only fires at 1.2 ohms and higher.30 32 ga is best too use in a VV device.Using 28 ga wire too get 1.2 too 1.5 omhs, you will need 10 to 12 wraps which is too much.

I have a Protank too and just ordered some 3mm silica to rebuild with my 32ga Kanthal. I also ordered some .5mm x .1mm ribbon. From the specs it looks like it's about 30ga equivalent? Is that the same that you have?

I saw a YT vid of someone using 400 ss mesh on his Protank rebuild. Wouldn't any metal in there short out? What's your experience with that?

Looking to get some rope now, as you may have read above.

I have some decent knowledge of a lot of this stuff now. But noone knows everything, not me anyway!

Any help with these questions would be very helpful and appreciated. If I can help out too I certainly will.

Thanks!

For the sake of having a complete inventory of A1 Kanthal I ordered a bunch more ribbon... Its nice to have things on deck to fine tune.

Your 0.5x0.1 ribbon is a 31ga equivalent of round wire.

You may want to look at this chart.

The Vari fires at .9...WOW...that is cool.i never used 30 ga yet, only 28ga,will 30 ''pop'' easy?

I didn't think it would either, til I metered a coil that was going to end up on a mech. Read .9Ohms. Fired up to 3.2V, 3.55Amp, ~11Watts, I didn't go further. Wasn't "as good" a vape as it would be on a mech. But it will fire.

30ga is my personal favorite to work with, has flexibility of 32ga, but the durability of 28ga(for proV). The 28ga has too much delay, the 30ga is almost instant. I've never popped a 30ga coil, but by the time I was pulsing my coils on a mech, I was decent at wrapping/tension on SSmesh. I think 28ga for mech is the way to go tho, but can do micro-coils with 30ga and 7x7 SSwire rope. All just experiments to really fine tune the vape, it'll all boil down to personal preference of course.

I have not tried cable yet but would 28 awg wire compensate for the primer puffs?

actually the thicker the wire the longer it will take to heat. on a mechanical device and higher wattages 28g will shine. if your doing vv devices a thinner wire will be a lot faster. I like 28g for resistances below 1-ohm, 30g wire between 1 to 1.8ish, and above that 32g. the vari v-2 fires to .8Ω's, but at that it doesn't have the kick because the voltage will only be around 3v, much better to use in the 1.3Ω range on a vv device.

Got mine at Tractor Supply Company. Got 3' of 3/32" at $1.49/ft. It's 304SS non-galvanized. Don't know if galvanized wire rope is harmful to inhale (available at The Home Depot and Lowe's) but wouldn't think it as safe. Haven't tried the purchased cable yet. NOOB to Genesis style attys and pretty much NOOB to vaping in general (May 1st, 2013). Advanced fairly quick though. Work in engineering with equipment that're powered with Li-Ion batteries. Decided quickly that vaping is the solution and that the most durable setup is a must since daily big bike rider. Everything must survive the vibration. Shooting for 1.4Ω-1.8Ω range on the coil with 32AWG Kanthal wire, mesh at top of SS wire rope. From what people have wrote on ECF, should be successful. Once there, I'm going straight mechanical with the simplest solution can find. Love simple because it's so beautiful and practically hassle free.

An update to my earlier post. After the long weekend and several attempts at making coils, finally got a coil to work with the SS wire rope wick. Frankly it's a disappointment. Being aware that it takes a day or so to break-in a new coil and wick setup, found that the wire rope just doesn't wick the juice as expected. Going to soak the wick in alcohol today in hopes that some unseen residue in the inner strands of the wire rope is preventing the wicking process. Can say that the flavor of the vapor is much better with the wire rope setup as compared to the Protank.
