No, it’s not a scam. It is a different way of looking at things. I see so many “man, I wish I could afford that mod!” posts. You CAN. Money is tight for many of us, I get that…but it a new mod keeps you away from cigs it is worth it! I am posting this in general, but it could just as easily go in new members (can’t start threads there anymore).

You want that provari, that lavatube, that bottom feeder? Here is how, using my numbers. Your numbers will vary but you will see what I mean. I am staying vendor neutral, but I would be happy to share if requested as all three I have dealt with so far were great.
My first month vaping (week three right now).
*Kgo starter kit and a few juices -$56 shipped.
*10 bottles (10ml each) of new flavors and a tank for my kgo $49 shipped
I then realized cartos didn’t last forever…
*20 new cartos, three clearomizers, and four more small bottles of juice $48 shipped.

I could easily have stopped there and been good for at LEAST two months. I paid about $6.00 a pack locally, sometimes $5.50. Using the lower number, at a little over a pack a day, I was easily spending $200/month. Even if everything above was completely useless in a week, I have saved a minimum of $30. The best part, I don’t really need to buy more than the above to cover next month. Brand new and I am about $230 ahead if I keep this up for five more weeks. During the most expensive time to get going I will come out ahead. This does NOT take into account the sodas, waters, coffees, gum and chips I bought because I was ALWAYS stopping at the store.

Now, I already ordered a vtube at $52 shipped, so I am only $180 up if I make it five more weeks. Still not bad. If money is tight, look at HALF your savings as “fun mod money”. My situation above still allows for quite a bit at using half my savings. The best part…three weeks in and I am feeling way better.

Hope that helps someone :toast:

That is all good and nice, but you see, there is always something pushes you to spend more money every month, this month, it is the 4th of July sale, you need to buy more stuff to take advantage of the sale, last month was ordering more of my favorite juices, there is a new story every month. However, the health benefits can not be weighted or measured with money. That's how I think about it.

Two things to that. There will ALWAYS be a sale next month...and this post was geared towards those who wish for something and they really want mod X and don't feel they can afford it.

I have long advocated saving your way toward the more expensive and nicer mods. Have been posting about it for a long time. Like this thread.

We all come to the table with a budget because we used to smoke cigs. Take half of your savings, put it aside every month and you will have enough for a new mod in no time. It also gives you a couple of months to make sure you really want that particular mod and to do your homework while you are saving.

Well, as a RYO smoker, I only spent about $40-50 a month on the habit. So, I'm hardly saving any money just yet. Sure, I'd love an Uber-Kewl Mod, but on a fixed income that probably won't happen anytime soon.

But, I have a great new hobby with lots of nifty shiny things, lots of new friends, I can breathe/smell/taste/etc. again, and I don't have to dust or clean out my PC about every day anymore on account of the smoke residue that went everythere is gone.

Unlike some hobbies like say...computers...you CAN get into some nice gear and have fun without blowing the bank. :)

I'm still happy to be getting my OvaleV8 & Apollo tank soon though... that I CAN afford. :D

To OP----- Good point.

In NY I was paying $10 a Pack two years ago. At 1.5 PAD I have a $450/month vaping budget. That is a lot of buying power and for the first year at each monthly milestone I would hook myself up with a cool MOD. Vaping didn't just get me off the smokes it has become a hobby! The money I have spent would have gone to smokes anyway and instead of a huge pile of empty packs and butts I now have a cool collection of MOD's, atty's, Tanks, Cartos and DIY supplies. Most of the MOD's also hold their value and if I so desired I could recoup most of my cost by selling them, the same would not be true for those empty packs and butts. Happy vapes all

Totally understood. Same thing, just takes a little longer :) If you were paying the $10/pack I paid in Seattle not long ago, you could buy a new provari every other week!

Nice. Since you're saving that much, you're totally welcome to buy me a ProVari anytime..

(packs on this side of the mountains are around $7-8)

this is my exact point too....man we have spent just so much more, on other tit bits, while stopping for a pack earlier, that it's unaccountable ....my wallet never ran out of changes...cause i would always be breaking bigger bills into smaller ones , on buying packs...money was always liquid then...it just disappeared... at least now when we spend it's accountable..

also as "Liv2ski" has put it, it doesn't go up in smoke...we are still left with sexy mods and batteries... :D

Looking at my expenses yeah I've saved, and have broken even with the ecig vs analogs, but I have to wonder where I was scraping together the money to buy those analogs. My bills tell me I shouldn't have been able to buy them! Although I am thinking of skipping a minor bill to buy a mod next week and picking up a couple of shifts at work to make up for it. Too many pretty shinny new toys!

When I first started vaping, I kept a notebook with expenses of vaping stuff written down for about 3 pages. I was chasing that perfect vape. I've found it several times since. I have no idea if I'm ahead of the "analog budget" or not. I'd like to think I am, but regardless of financial savings, I went for a hike in the mountains with my new bride on our honeymoon last week, and I made it up the mountain without so much as a care about stopping to catch a breath. In fact, I vaped up the trail. That's priceless!

I kept a spreadsheet of all e-cig expenses starting out, limited myself to 1/2 the total of my monthly smoking budget ~$300, and saved for my first mod. I found in the meantime the 1/2 I was spending went quite a ways trying different attys, cartos and tanks, they were cheaper than mods.:) I ended up buying a couple of "ohhh shiny" but I liked trying the attys, cartos, adapters and tanks better. Ended up building my own box mods cheap, and spending the savings on the feeding and heaters.

p.s DIY juice helps greatly in saving faster......
