I'm going numerical here:
so far the pattern goes 0,+1,+2,-1,-2 I'm deciding and I'll go with zero is next so it'll be 6?

Why do I always assume numbers actually have to do with numbers? 
It took me a while to figure out what markfm was saying. I just kept think OK that's nice.

That's because Shorty sticks to the rules. At 1st I thought you didn't give why. When Shorty said you got it right and didn't catch you on the reason why I knew that was the reason I just had to figure out why it was the reason. (did that make sense?) I maybe slow but eventually I do get there.
