I've been using a subohm the whole time i've been vaping. Decided to try out RTA

So I switched from Arctic to Billow v2. Kanthal wire.
The employee at the vape shop helped me to do a setup. 24 or 22 gauge 6 wraps 0.3ohm.
The throat hit was harsh but flavour was goooooood.

Being the smart ... that I am, I decided to mess around. So I took that build out and built my own.
28 gauge, 8 wrap, 0.5ohm. Worst decision of my life

Fivepawns gambit suddenly went all bittery on me. Tasted like medicine. Every other juice I tried had their flavour muted.

Can someone point me in the right direction? How mayn wraps, ohm, gauge(i only have 28g with me now)

Thanks

Try twisting your 28g and use dual twisted coils.

Your harshness was due to either subpar wicking or not enough airflow for the build. If it was airflow I don't think you'll like twisted 28 either, but I suspect it was your wicking. You weren't getting a full on dry hit, but it wasn't wicking as fast as you were vaping it.

Is this build for flavour? I dont care about vapor production.

Yes. I'm a flavor chaser, not a cloud chaser. I still have and love several RTAs with tightish airflow that I run over 1 ohm. I also have several dual, tri and quad coiled attys, but if the flavor isn't there, its not for me :)

I don't have the Billow v2 or I would help you with the wicking. There is a thread on it in the RTA area so I'm sure you can get build help. I had the first Billow, but that was a very different atty. I actually sold it because I couldn't get the flavor I wanted, but the v2 does look quite different in design. If I didn't have so many RTAs, I would probably get one.

I picked up the billow a couple of weeks ago. Vaping on it as I type. I used 28G KA1. 8 wraps, 2mm standard coils. About .8 ohms. Running it at 30W with the airflow wide open and no dry hits as long as I give it a breath in between puffs. It's a different animal to wick that tank right. you have to fill the juice channels, but not so much that the cotton gets caught in the threads when you screw on the sleeve. It took me a 2nd try.

on an iPV4. But it still hits good down around 20W.
That tank really doesn't have the airflow for a super sub build. It wouldn't be able to cool the coils enough as you draw on it. And it wicks great for a tank, but not quite that good. You might do OK with 26G kanthal, but I wouldn't use anything bigger than that.

Sounds to me like you burned your cotton wick.

Wicking a coil is an art form.

Too loose and it leaks; and too tight you get dry hits.

After you burned the cotton it will taste horrible till you re wick the coil.

Now wicking the coil you want to feel resistance but not so tight the cotton will not move.

I usually use 7-8 wraps of 28 gauge. Works great for me and great flavor rocking at .93-1.02 ohms.
