About four years ago I started vaping with a 901. I really liked it but it had some obvious downfalls - very short battery life, always having to buy new atomizers, the random sucking in of liquid, yada yada yada...

I dropped out of vaping really at the worst possible time - when I was down to maybe 2-3 analogs a day, max, and could have made the full switch to vaping I believe without even noticing at that point.

Well, now I'm trying again and my new ecigs just came in the mail so I was anxious to try them out. Unfortunately my new liquid isn't here yet BUT I did have old liquid still lying around. Very old liquid - four years old. Now, I dont' know if liquid goes bad but I still wanted to try my stuff so I went for it, filled just a tiny bit of liquid into my new device, and took a puff.

Holy smokes!! I took a long, slow, drag like I had been used to from my 901. Bad choice. I coughed and coughed and ran to the sink and spit and grabbed water and gargled and coughed some more and..... LOL Although I figured it's be more powerful than ecigs of the past, I had no idea what I was in for. Now, some of that could be because of having a four year old bottle of liquid lol but man! Even as I type this I'm having little 'after coughs' and honestly my head is a little light from the two hits (yes, I tried again lol) that I took. I'm really gonna have to work on this taking a lighter drag thing. I mean, it's crazy how different it is - it's almost like you shouldn't 'suck in' at all because it immediately gives you SO much vapor!! It's gonna be a learning curve for sure!

I've not used a manual before (the 901 was an auto) so that is throwing me off a little too. I had to figure out: 'do I push the button the whole time or do I push, release, then drag?' YouTube had to show me all the ins and outs. :)

But anyway, this really is a pointless post I suppose but I'm just here to say that I can't believe how far ecigs have come from my last drag on my 901 all those years ago to my first drag on the eGo. Crazy!

PS - I also ordered all my liquid in 26mg strength because that's what I had before, but now I'm thinking a lower dosage of nicotine is in order with this device. Anyone got any insight on that? Do you use lower mg nic the more powerful the device or just stay the same no matter the device??

Congrats on trying vaping again. In my month of vaping I have learned a lot from ECF that I have tried and came up with my comfortable and enjoyable vaping experience.

I went to the eGo twister so I could change the voltage which allowed more comfortable 'puffs'. Then I visited a local B&M that allowed me to sample flavors and they had a nicotine sample tray that allowed me find the balanced level for my comfort, 18 ml. I got some Kanger T3S tanks that has good airflow with higher ohms, 2.6 for cooler vapor. That's all I have offer about my 'comfort and enjoyment'.

Since the beginning I bought a Vamo V3 and Kanger Pro Tanks, but still use my eGo with T3s tanks a lot.

Sorry I missed this part.

I started vaping with 24mg to get over the urges and found that was to much for me. I jumped down to 12mg and didn't get the result I was looking for so I went back up to 18mg for about a week. That helped me get over the craving hump. But now I'm back down to 12mg and it works great. So the best advice for that is to slide up and down the nic scale a bit to hone it in. It will take some time but your body will let you know when you are or aren't getting enough in. It is very worth toughing it out to find the appropriate level for you personally.

Good luck

I smoked a pack/day, so I started with 18 mg. and it kicked my ...., especially trying to sleep at night. I dropped to 12 and that helped a lot, but I still had trouble sleeping. So I cut back to 6 mg after dinner and that did the trick and I could sleep. I've dropped to 6 mg all the time and it's working well.

Really surprised me I could get by on that low of a strength, but it sure made me happy that I can.

First vape of the day: into mouth - hold and blow out! Small little puffs.

11am: rip into it, huge long drags, lung inhales - ohhhh yeah!

I run with 18mg, i started with 36, which is a bit hardcore, but i smoked a lot.

Devices are more efficient now for sure from the batteries to the cartos, rebuildables etc and they do hit harder, such that a lot of people reduce their nic content. It's a far cry from the cigalikes i was tortured by!

What a difference, huh? I remember my 510 setups years ago (when those and the 901s were all the rage) - I just couldn't quite hack it. Fast forward to last year when I picked up an Ego - so much better words can't describe it. Within a month the wife and I had both kicked the cigs, and that was over eight months ago...

As far as the strength, you'll want something stronger at first, but you may well find that the 26mg ends up too strong in the long run. I started at 18, then tapered to 12 during the day and 6 at night, now I'm almost exclusively vaping at 6mg except on the flavors I share with my wife, since she's still at 18. We both smoked about 1/2-3/4 ppd, so your mileage will most likely vary, even when comparing to people who had the same cig habits as you.

Regardless, once you get some fresh juice in I think you're going to be happy - I found an old Johnson Creek bottle behind the fridge last week from around 2010, but I wasn't brave enough to try it. Good luck!

I did the same thing here. I tried doing this "vaping" thing about 5 years ago, had a Janty that performed horribly. It was good at the time, but it doesn't compare to the technology available today. It was frustrating to use and I quickly lost interest in it. I decided a couple of weeks ago to give this another try and pulled out my old gear. Filled it up with five year old RY4 juice and took a hit. I immediately began hacking and instantly regretted my decision. It kicked my .... and took me several minutes to stop coughing. It was even nastier than I remember it five years ago and required bourbon to get the taste out of my mouth. I tossed everything into the trash and researched new gear and got a nice setup. Makes a world of difference. Lesson learned: don't try to vape 5 year old e-juice on antiquated hardware.

I just started up again and was going to use 6mg nico juice, but the guy at the local shop told me I should go with at least 12mg, if not 18mg, if I wanted to stop smoking and still get my nicotine fix. I figured he knew better than me and I took his advice. My advice would be the same as what I got - start with 12mg and if that doesn't do it for you move up to 18mg. If you think it's a bit too much drop it down 6mg. My next juice purchase will be 6mg. One of those things that will have different results for different people and you'll have to experiment a bit to find your sweet spot.

4 year old e liquid is about 2 years beyond it's expiration date. That should have been thrown away years ago.

As for the nic level, it depends on what you smoked. This is a basic guide that works for most people.

Roll your own or smoke packs of unfiltered = 36mg
1 pack a day of Full Flavor (Marlboro or Camel Filter) = 24mg
1 pack a day of lights = 18mg
1 pack a day of ultra lights = 12mg

If you smoked less than a pack a day step down one level, if more, step up one.

Well, well, well... Welcome back Mazzy and Mraymer. :)

Yeah, we've come a long way, haven't we?

I still have a 901 atty. :D Never had any luck with that thing--it either flooded or burned my juice.

Vaping a 4-year-old juice is not unheard of, but I'd recommend getting something a bit fresher and tastier.

You really should experiment a bit. I started (in December 2009, with kr808 cartos and batteries) at 12 mg/ml--and I'm still vaping 12 mg/ml. We're all different. But I always have a bottle of 36 mg/ml unflavored base handy so I can add it to my ejuice when I need more nic--for whatever reason. The best thing is to have several strengths in your arsenal; most people need a little more nicotine in the AM and less before bed.
