I assumed I would just like "realistic" fruit flavors but tried a few "candy" flavors and like those too. Any thoughts on this? Do any of you combine both? Fuuny thing is I tried a pre-made juice that was peanut butter banana (candy) and really liked it. Now i'm re-thinking everything I assumed about fruits. Can you give some examples of what recipes work best with each kind?

Thank you... that's something I thought about trying. So, like 1 part candy to 3 parts natural?
That will depend on the brand and type of candy flavor (pixie, gummy, sugar coated, sour, etc.). Generally for average strength brands I'd start the candy at 0.3% and go from there. For ultras one drop per 30ml.

I kinda meant the ratio relative to what you would normally use... obviously different brands can vary a lot. Assume you mixed each one separately (at an appropriate %) then mixed them... does that make sense.
I've noticed that many people often mix two different flavors because one makes up for what the other one is lacking.
Thanks for the advice.

When I get a new flavor and am unsure of how it’ll be, I do a single flavor test. Start low, and add more flavor until I know where I’ll like it, even if it’s going to be used with other flavors in a recipe.

Then, I check my notes on the other flavors I plan to pair it with.

Let’s say the recipe is 3 flavors. Flavor one SFT I liked at 6%. I would use one third of that flavor, 2%. If there were four flavors in the recipe, I’d use fourth.

And it still will need a little tweaking, but that gets me close.

@Letitia
I didn't mean to actually mix separately... let me use an example:
If I have a candy flavor and a natural flavor and both would be used at 10 % (just a handy number to use) for SFT, and I want to use both in a recipe (at equal amounts) I would do something like 5 % of each. So, what I'm asking is would you suggest less candy (like 1 part candy to 5 parts natural) then I would use 1 % candy and 5 % natural... does that make sense? I'm not good at explaining... tend to confuse people.

If you are wanting the mix to lean towards natural I would start with a 4:1 ratio and go from there. If you use a 1:1 ratio usually it will fall into the candy camp.

Thank you... that's what I was asking. Obviously, it's up to me to decide what I like but needed a starting point so I don't have to try 4 or 5 ratios.
BTW, I'm starting to think I have "berry blindness"... and I love berries. Having to mix at higher % to taste anything (including candy and natural flavors) I resorted to adding TFA berry mix... I can taste that but it's not good at higher %... yuck! Going to order some new ones and pay more for the best rated flavors. Funny, I can taste candy banana just fine and natural peach blows me away every time.

Do you have FA forest fruit? Good dark berry boosters are FLV boysenberry and FA black current. Good red berry booster is INA raspberry malina and a good strong raspberry is Purilum but needs a steep. INA shisha raspberry with a couple drops malina is a good as well.

All those berries are on my wishlist. Thank you for reminding me of forest fruit... will add to my list! Good to know (with all the research I've done lately) that you recommended the same ones I would have chose. If you have the time, could you suggest % of those for SFTs? I'll see what I can find... it would interesting to see if they are close to what you say (no hurry... won't be ordering very soon... low budget and all)

I like forest fruit at 4% with 0.5 INA cactus for a single but many use it higher. since you're new to diy maybe try 6-7%. Malina for me is very strong so I use it very low 0.3%, I would say most will go 2-3% for an sft. Shisha I think I did the sft at 3, use it at 2 in most recipes. Purilum maybe 5-6 for sft, I use it at 2-3. For the darks FLV boysenberry 0.4 sf, add by the drop after that; FA black currant maybe start at 1.5%, another one that is strong for me.
