I dont know what it is with the 510, but for whatever reason, i have never successfully cleaned an atty. I usually wait until i get that harsh/gunky hit and i know that its time to clean.
Ive tried the crest mouthwah and it cleaned it fine, but the performance droppped bigtime after.Same with rinsing. I usually just run it (thread side up) under pretty warm water for a couple minutes, then blow into the atty until i no longer get drips on my napkin. Then blow into it using my mouth, unti it drys. I give it about 3 primer drops and connect to my bat with the cart off, i hit the button and let it sizzle for about 5 secs. (i can see that the atty does glow red, and thats a good sign) however the atty loses taste.
Im starting to think its just better to not clean them, and see them through until its time to get more. Is anyone else having the same experience? What tips would you recommend? Thanks.

Im with you. Any time I have ever tried to clean any of them with any method that people use here they are never the same for me. I have tried everything. The closest I ever came was just using hot water and then blow dry.

I just use them untill they are finished and put a new one on.. Saves me a lot of work and disappointment.. lol

I only clean mine as a last resort. It's working for me so far. The ones that I had trouble with early on were the ones I cleaned, so I stopped cleaning them. Just a blow out and dry burn once in a while. I've only had 3 die so far an one of those were pretty much DOA and replaced on warranty, another was from a crappy ecig, and the 3rd was one that I used non stop and probably just reached the end of its life. I recently had to clean 2 due to some bad taste issues, and those I simply flushed with water only and let them dry. They are now back to working great. One still has a little bit of a bad flavour, but its slowly regaining good taste and the other is as good as new. I personally think that over cleaning reduces the life of an atty. Most posts on the topic are usually from people who just cleaned theirs.

EDIT: I use genuine joye 510s, besides the one I mentioned as the crappy ecig. I have one SLB which is actually pretty decent, but lacks the flavour I get from genuine joye.

You "plow" them out every day? Doesn't that hurt?
:p
LOL! you said 'plow'... :p
I was thinking, (fot the first time!) could it be the tap water thats effecting the taste after cleaning??? perhaps carbonated water or diluted water would be better?? ) Maybe the next time i attempt to clean, Ill boil the water first then let it cool before rinsing. Course, Ill probably forget and then come here to b*tch about it :D

When you think about the price comparison to analogs, it is well worth it if you get even a month out of attys. They are really inexpensive to replace.
I only blow mine out every once in awhile. Any cleaning methods only killed mine. It is much easier and quite cheap to replace them. I keep about 5 on hand at all times. Mine last a good month to 6 weeks most of the time. You can't beat that for $8 or so.

If you clean them with water they need to dry completely before adding eliquid. Overnight at the least.
Ive tried that too. IMO, I think thats where it goes wrong. (atleast for me). Makes sense to let them dry before attempting to vape them again; tho, overnight might be excessive. I cannot dry burn because i do not own a blow dryer (though some may argue that lol), which is why i use the manuals and "sizzle" them dry. then i apply the primer drops, and repeat for a few times. (didnt i just get dont whining about how that doesnt work? lmao.) I dunno, trial and error i guess. If it works, stick with it until i doesnt.

If you're a dripper, what worked for me was pulling out the wick in the atty. That's solved all of my problems so far. I've got one atty where I took the bridge out too, but it made all my juices too harsh. So now I just pull the wich and leave the bridge.

Btw, when you pull the wick out of your used atty's you'll know why you've had trouble with gunked up coils and strange tastes. Every used atty I've pulled the wick out of has been melted. If you've got a dead atty, pull the bridge out of it and I'll bet it's covered in melted nylon from the wick.

I think the wick in your atty is so gunked up that no matter how you clean it you're still get that burnt taste. Try removing the wick and you'll see all that brown stuff is stuck on it. Watch a video on you tube called
" Removing the wick" I did mine and it didn't hurt the performance of the atty.
I also rinse the atty once awhile in hot water and do a dry burn afterwards.
The other thing I do is take a couple of hard draws before I push the battery botton. This seems to get the atty primed before the battery activates and burn the juice. I have not had a burnt taste since I've done these things.

I hold mine by the battery side with tweezers and let hot water from the tap run into the bridge side of the atty for about 1 minute then just blow out with my mouth from the battery side until I no longet get andthing prime with 4 to 6 drops and go to town on it the first few hits dont taste the greatest but they work fine taste comes back and I have no loss off life on them. I dont like all the chemical rinses as it loosens the glue and dry burns are hard on a attiy and I believe diminish there life. Most time I dont clean unless it starts to become a hard draw or it doesnt produce the vapor it did.

Blow clear from atty side into towel, then battery side. Most tweezers are small...i use a plastic/metal set of tongs and leave it under the tap, each side for 30 seconds. Blow clear both sides until no more water is coming out. Dry burn a few seconds (gets rid of whats left), then fill up and my attys are still going. Haven't popped one 510 yet.

Get a little tupperware container and put a little bit of Pure Grain Alcohol in it, atty in, lid on SHAKE.......PGA out, hot water in, lid on SHAKE.......Paper towel dry(blow throught the atty), Take canned air and blast through main hole, side holes and atty bridge, dry burn(the manual batt sizzle part)........clean:cool:
