Frustrated Newbie: Please Help

Hey everybody I'm pretty new to ecigarettes. I used to smoke a pack marlboro smooth cigarettes a day. Maybe six months ago I got my first Ego kit from Madvapes. I've been using really expensive "camel menthol 36ml" drops from a kiosk in the mall because I haven't had any luck whatsoever finding edrops I like. Since I started I've had very mixed results with the ego cartomizers. The last three days I've spent trying to fill a cartomizer. Either it tastes like vomit, doesn't vape at all or burns. I've been all over this forum looking for anything and everything - new e-cig brands to buy, e-liquid that tastes better, tips for filling cartomizers. I'm so frustrated at this point I'm ready to quit vaping. I need to find a good cheap brand of e-liquid which has a good throat hit and produces lots of vapor. I need a battery that will last all day and a cartomizer that I don't have to screw around with for three days or buy ten of to get just one to work.

Hi and welcome to ECF. The Ego 900 is a great PV but you should be using low res single coil cartomizers- either Smok Tech 1.7 ohm XL cartos aka The Ressurectors or 2.0 ohm Boge cartos. Here's a vid for filling cartos. Key is to push carto into condom of juice VERY SLOWLY


I can almost guarantee your vape experience will improve 10 fold if you switch cartos.

Katie, I highly recommend you try a Vivi Nova tank - either the 3ml size or the mini size. For your Ego battery, use the low resistance heads (1.8ohm). The Vivi Nova is easy to use, fill and clean, and you can screw off the head and replace it very easily.

The Vivi Nova replacement heads only cost about $3, so you don't have to throw the whole thing away when the head (heating coil) dies. I've got 3 of them going right now. I've been using them for over 2 months and have only had one head go bad, so they last a long time. You can even re-wick and re-coil the heads if you ever get into that sort of thing.

Juice is tough to recommend. EC Blends is cheap and I really like their Ry4. It's supposed to be a tobacco blend, but it doesn't taste like tobacco to me. It really doesn't have much flavor at all, but it gives me the sensation of smoking a cigarette (throat and chest hit) more than just about any other juice I've tried. I've now changed to a Ry4 from a local supplier here - VaporEscence.com - that I like even better, but the EC Blends version is good too. In my opinion.

Burning I think indicates that the cartomizer is not properly filled, I tried dripping the liquid to fill my first attempt and burned the crap out of it. I since rounded up a syringe and filled the cartos starting with the battery side, this is working very well. My cartos didn't come with condoms from MaddCatt Vapors, so I haven't been able to try that method. The key any way you fill them is to make sure they are VERY FULL. I have been filling them until they are seeping out a little. If you put too much in it and get a gurgling, blow gently and clear the hole in the middle. So far this is working for me. I am very inexperienced with e-liquids and can only say that the fruity flavors I got from MaddCatt are delicious. I got 50/50 vg/pg and think I might like the bigger cloud and lighter throat hit of a higher vg mix. It seems like it will take some time to adjust to vaping and establish preferences. You are in the right place for the info you need though

Assuming you already have eGo batteries, I'd also recommend either the Smoktech 1.7 ohm cartos or the Boge 2.0 ohm cartos mentioned above. Both are available at a good price and free shipping from Crystal Clear Vaping, or from many other vendors. If using with an eGo threaded battery, I have best results when using a long eGo cone, which restricts the airflow a bit and gives a richer, stronger vape. You will of course get different opinions from everyone. As for juices, try to find vendors who offer sampler packs so you can try several. Want2Vape, Vaperite and Johnson Creek come to mind. Once you find the right hardware and a few juices you like, you won't want to go back to tobacco.

I've never liked the dual-coil cartomizers; they never worked right for me. I second the recommendation that you try the 1.7ohm SmokeTech single-coil cartomizer from Crystal Clear Vaping. Those are very reliable and work great.

Loads of people love the Vivi Nova's but I haven't received mine in the mail yet so I can't comment.

As for juice, there are SO many options out there for you to try. Check some of the threads that discuss favorite liquids and you'll quickly begin to see a pattern of likes for certain vendors/juices. You may want to try a non-tobacco juice.

A Mini (2.0 ml) Vivi Nova will work well with your eGo and is reliable, leak free, easy to clean, and the heads can be rebuilt or changed cheaply.

Kick the cartos to the curb! They are not worth the experimentation it takes to find one that works. (since the Nova is available)

Yeah I switch back and forth from carto+ tank to clearos- Stardust and Vivi Nova- if buying the clearomizer make sure you get the "rebuildable" regardless of the brand.

Yuppers. Using the condoms that come with the carto so that the carto can suck up the juice from the bottom is easy, fast, and will result in a proper fill every time.

Dual coil cartos don't work well with your battery.
I agree with others on the Smoketech 1.7 ohm cartomizers. Make sure they are filled properly in the initial fill, keep 'em wet, & you will have a good vape.
They don't leak or crack or burn. I can make a carto last a week.

I agree you should get a vivi nova just ordered in 10 of them as I don't like using tanks for multiple flavours. Might put a couple on Ebay though, if you are interested let me know (I'm in the UK though). I've also got 10 x CE6 clearomizers they have the same changeable coils. If you want a good e liquid I can recommend T- Juice in the UK. Jack the Ripple (raspberry ripple flavour) went down a treat at Vapefest UK this year.

I suggest using a tank as well. It will give a better throat hit. I can't really recommend a tank for you as I have an Ego from V4L & it as 808 threads on it, but it looks like others above have some good suggestions. I did want to come on here & make a juice suggestion, because I, too, was a Marlboro Smooth smoker as well. I REALLY like the New Menthol Wow Vapor Juice from Vapor4Life. It is very minty like a Smooth & has a good strong throat hit.

vivi nova 2.5 tanks are my favorite and i've tried everything... cartos I love cuz they hit like a brick but u gotta fill em constantly... clearos are sweet but u need a needle to fill them lol... and juice... I found so many juice I love to vape at Dfwvapor.com... I love their juice i believe there's mroe pg in it as it hits better and the flavor is amazing but the juice doesn't last as long... the mountain dew from them is by far the best tasting I've had from any vendor... there atomic fireball is also amazing if u like that like its a breath mint i literally feel like I had an atomic fire ball its amazing... gotvapes has good juice their strawberry peach on smash is great and their swedish fish is great too but I do not like them as a vendor cuz i am currently having a problem with their customer service on a vmax I purchased that is defective and they responded until they realized it was defective now they stopped... but as far as juice and attys their a good site I just won't be going their lol... hope this helped...

another vote for a vivid Nova mini and for economy blends ry4. its the combo that got me off cigs.

also give e. blends dragons blood a try. that's the flavor that got MT roll your own man off the butts at least most of the time. i love it too and have it goings right.now. its not a tobacco flavor but so good it does not matter.

Thank you guys so much for your advice!! I just got ONE out of EIGHT of my ego dual coil cartomizers to work, so I'll use that until I get the Smoktech 1.7ohm cartomizers. Are these the ones you all are talking about?

I've purchased liquid from madvapes (terrible) and vaporbomb (also terrible and so thick I couldn't get it to vape at all). Where else should I look?

Yes those are the ones. They take 1.8 ml of juice. 20 drops= approx 1 ml. Problem also with dual coil is they're very hard on the battery and drain them quickly- should really only be used on higher voltage PVs. Just make sure you first fill them properly as per the vid. Good Luck.

i like the t2 clearomizers, and i've gotten excellent juice from backwoods brew. their #1 seller is casablanca, and it's pretty much my all-day vape. also, you've got to try their malty toffee if you're into caramel-ly, toffee taste. that stuff is straight up addictive. i can't say enough good things about backwoods. they've got a reputation (well-deserved) for quality and excellent customer service. they're not overpriced, but they're not the cheapest i've seen either. but in this case, you get what you pay for. i'm new to vaping, and always looking for good recommendations and guidance.
