After reading many comments of how cotton will make huge difference and enhance the vaping experience on vapour and flavour wise.So I've decided to go through this and rebuild 2 Kanger coil heads. I built one with 32g 5/4 wraps, giving 1.9 ohm, and for the other one I did micro-coil with 28g, it gave me nearly 1.6 ohm. I tried 3 different 100% cotton, and also used the cotton of those sticks (Q-tip like). all of these tasted awful! not tasting the juice at all! it is not like burn taste it's just strange taste of chemical maybe? I cant describe the taste but it is annoying. I did boil the cotton balls that are bleached with hydrogen peroxide and I couldn't take more than one hit ! worse than before. :( I dunno what I'm doing wrong here, I spent more than 3 hours yesterday changing wicks from different cotton, testing, get disgusting taste then rinsing my PT and wicking again! I'm still having that taste in my mouth right now. I even burnt some of the cotton to check if these these are 100% cotton. :(

Does the juice make any difference? I'm using Halo Tribeca juice.

Is cotton bad for PT mini? I tried both mini 1 and mini 2. My battery is ego twist. Does the battery make any difference?

Is the PT too sensitive that it can catch any flavour that goes inside it? because now I've put brand new coil head on the mini 2 and the taste is funny! not Tribeca at all! although I did rinse everything with HOT water yesterday!

I was happy, not any more.

well there are 2 things that come to mind....1st off did you saturate the cotton coil before use ? I drip a drop of unflavored on the coil before replacing the chimney and grommet. If not you burned the coil and will need to replace the cotton. 2nd...I always boil the cotton balls 3 separate times before use for at least 12 mins each time and then blot and dry...the crud that boils off will keep you boiling your cotton no matter how many say use it straight from the bag.

Saok the PT in everclear or vodka to remove the smell/taste...and if the tank smells/tastes funny you defiantly burned the cotton

I recoil all my PT's with cotton full size and mini's and have not had a problem since the beginning....try again...boil your cotton...place a drop of unflavored on the cotton before replacing the chimney and you will be fine and will understand why so many love cotton

I use unflavored but any juice could work...also the amount of cotton needed is small. Did you watch a youtube or two as you may be using too much cotton.

I would not use rubbing alcohol myself...but vinegar should work just rinse well after soaking.

I use tap water to boil my cotton and do 3 cotton balls at a time...that is enough cotton to last me over a month for PT recoiling and my RBA's...thats how little it takes one cotton ball last a LONG time

^^^what they said... you gotta prime it first.. 1 drop should saturate the entire wick... dont add too many drops or you will get the gurgles...you can even blow through the hole to make sure its clear of any extra juice...

doesnt matter if its unflavoured or not...thats nonsense.

Pics would help though..

Using tap water to boil puts more contaminates in the cotton than it had to begin with. Very bad idea.

Cotton is good for just about any rebuild. What took me a bit to figure out is that less is more. I was using way too much cotton.

For me, and YMMV, when I'm pulling the cotton through a micro coil and it gets hung up (even a little), then I'm trying to put too much through.

Sounds like your inner diameter is way too large. I wrap mine with 30 awg around a 1.3 mm safety pin, 10 wraps gives me 2.2-ish ohms.

When the ID is too large, the wick becomes too thick, so it gets choked by the slots in the atomizer head.

I just figured that out yesterday too!! One would think more would be better, but less is WAY better!!

not really I wrap it on 1.6 pin. should I make it smaller?

So the wick should move freely inside the coil with no resistance? should it be less than the coil inner diameter?

also I'm wondering if you guys add the flavour wick when using cotton! or it doesn't make any difference?

Ok. I haven't tried 1.6 mm myself, but I find 1.85 mm too large and 1.3 mm much better. Since 1.6 is in between, I cannot say either way.

The dry wick should be pretty loose in the coil. When cotton gets juice on it, it swells quite a bit.

With my 1.3 mm coils there's no room for flavor wicks.

well I did what you guys have suggested .smaller cotton wick, still didn't work. I'm starting to think it's from clearo it self. could it be the glue? or the rubber grommet inside the base? maybe it got too hot from the 1.6ohm micro coil ?
I'll soak it with the other PT in vinegar and water until tomorrow. I guess no vaping for me today.

There is no glue in the PT2 (assuming you are using version 2). It's all glass and stainless steel with two silicone seals.

If a burnt taste is lingering even after washing out the tank, then it is almost certainly either the coil or the rubber insulator on the bottom of the head. This is why it's a good idea to use heads with a silicone insulator. It's more resistant to burning.

I can almost guarantee you used too much cotton. It's easy to overdo it when you 1st start rebuilding, most people over do it with the cotton at first (I did too!). Less is more!

If it starts to bunch up at all when you pull it through the coil, like somebody else mentioned, that's too much. It should slide through pretty easily, but not so easily that it will just fall out. You should feel be verrry little to no resistance when you pull the cotton through. I can tell I used the right thickness/amount of cotton, when I see the tiniest amount of space above the wick in the slot, when I put the chimney back on. The silicone cup covers this space, and than you get great juice flow.

And for the Protank, something between 1.4-1.8mm is about perfect to wrap on. So 1.6mm should be perfect, I use a 1/16in drill bit (1.5875mm) myself, usually.

I tried the cotton balls and cotton pads. I didn't like the flavor even after boiling both. I then tried Peaches and Cream Yarn from Walmart ( cut a few strands and boiled in tap water for about 30 min...then let it dry ).

For me I'll never go back to cotton balls/pads.

What's nice about using the yarn is that you do not have to guess how much cotton to use. Just thread it thru the coil. It works perfect...I just did a half a dozen today and am very happy with the taste/wicking of the yarn.

When I use a new rebuilt coil I put 1 drop of e-liquid on each side of the cotton. Take 2 dry pulls and it's good to go.

Good Luck to You.
