Ok, running a Provari on a 2ohm bcc puritank. Voltage at 4.2. tank half full, wonderful vape. I get low on juice, I fill it up, do a few unpowered draws, dry burn. This continues on and off unt I get about half way through the tank then it's fine. Now logic says to try starting at a half tank, so I do and get the exact same results!!!! Dry burn until I'm half way through the half filled tank. This problem has plagued me through a kanger pt1, a vivi nova, and now the dbox puri. The problem does not happen with a kanger pt3 bdc. Same fluid across all three 4 tanks, same ohm atty's same battery pack. I have tried lowering my voltage to 3.8, didn't seem to help. What the heck am I doing wrong here??? Do I need to go down to 3.3 volts??

Frustrated!! :)

I am confused how your doing a dry burn when the tank is half full. Dry burns are when the wick is dry. Also I can tell you from my experience that dry burns on both the PT and Viv I have found to be almost useless. Either rebuild the head or replace it. I gave up on dry burns on them a long time ago.

Mezrein, I don't understand why the first half of the tanks (no matter what level in the tank you start with) give you problems and they are good after that.

Here is what I do with these tank systems. They all like a certain maximum voltage. I start with the lowest setting and vape it. If that does not burn the juice I slowly increase the voltage until it starts burning or just tastes bad. I then lower it a bit and that is the highest voltage that tank with that juice can handle. I then pick the voltage in the acceptable range that I like best. When the coil gets gunked up the maximum voltage drops.

It really doesn't matter what the voltage number is. If it tastes good to you it's the right setting :thumb:

I see what could be any combination of user errors.

First, 4.2 volts on a Kanger BCC 2.0 ohm coil is just too hot period. They don't need to be run at that high a voltage to produce large amounts of vapor. Especially when a coil is new. My current coil meters 2.45 ohms and I'm only running it at 3.5 volts. Simply put: It doesn't need to be run at a voltage higher than that.

The reason that it seems to start working ok once the tank is half empty is you are messing with the pressure inside the tank. Once you get to half a tank or less it becomes easier for liquid to flood the coil. For most people that translates as: gurgling and flooding problems. In your case you have reached the point where the excessively hot coil is now vaping off liquid as fast as it gets it.

I tend to suspect you are taking really hard draws off this setup as well.

Drop you voltage and try again. Especially with new coils or just cleaned coils. Kanger BCC doesn't need as high a voltage as you may think. Small wicks in small coils can only suck up so much liquid so fast. Run 'em too hot and you can get dry hits trying to vape faster than the wick can take up more liquid.

The dbox is no different in function. Same coils, same issues.

Vivi Nova? IMO just a bad idea. Liquid at bottom... coil at top... laws of physics... It can take a lot of effort tipping and rolling around to keep those working with no dry hits.

I only wish I was wise enough to seek out advice like above on my first go around. This is why I like my carto tanks, RBAs, and the new BDC tanks. They wick better, they heat better, they give a more consistent vape (my RBA's are all Kayfun style FWIW). Just tonight I was getting random burnt hits, then completely burnt hits on a freshly-rewicked Russian 91. This RBA has *never* given me anything but a perfect hit. Occasionally I get a "hot" hit but whatever, it still hit with great flavor and vapor. Mind you I am running 2 ohm microcoils at 4.5+ volts. Anyway, I didn't wick the new rebuild (same coil) on this thing well enough. I have been so focused on "loose" wicks that I went overboard and made the wick too short and too loose. I emptied the tank with a syringe and rewicked it tighter and with more cotton. The result is the best version of Halo Tribeca I could imagine.

To sum up, even on an RBA, you have to strike a balance between heat and wicking. Push either one of those variables too far and you'll have issues. Best of luck to you OP!
