I started vaping just about 4 weeks ago and I have only found one juice I can taste and like. It's Red Water (cinnamon and watermelon) and I do really like it but I want some variety. I picked up some Strawberry Fuzz at my B&M and it tasted great in the store but had no taste at home. I have let it steep about a week and it's a little better so maybe some more steeping will help. I also ordered some samples from Johnson Creek and what I could taste was, well, gross. They all happen to be 100% VG (not intentional) so I don't know if that matters but they turn my stomach. I am letting them steep as well. I am waiting on an order from Mt Baker Vapor. Extra flavor shots. .... maybe that will help. I know it will take some time for my taste buds to revive. It's just frustrating in the meantime.

I will quit whining now ;)

Your clearo or tank will make a huge difference on flavor - Aspire brand has gotten great reviews regarding flavor - I personally use Protanks and Kayfun Lite+ (the Kayfun is an RBA - you may not be ready to build your own coils yet but it has fantastic flavor

Also a VV or VV/VW battery will make a difference also

I've found most of the "tobacco" flavors from halo to be very good also momandpopvapor does a good job but I've also noticed that really cheap carts or clearo's can make a good liquid taste bad. Voltage seems to make a lot of diff as well. At 4.3-4.7 v blu carts actually taste ok at 3.9 or lest they're kinda like puffing on vomit.

Ego-t battery with a Kanger MT3 tank (that's without me looking, if I have the numbers/let's wrong. I am sure you get the idea though. )
That's pretty good setup.
I found some flavors are very muted on tanks but comes alive on RDA. Make a huge difference. Local shops around here tend to be very friendly and always full of friendly people. If you tell them you are just getting into vaping and want to try out a RDA, I am sure you can find someone offering a quick hit on their gear. Just bring your own drip tip. :p

Hmmm... lots of variables a play here - the juice, the tank, and your tongue.

Pretty much all vapers go through a dull taste period as their taste buds regenerate and adjust to life without smoke (thus the question about your smoking habits above). That will sort itself out (if you don't smoke further) and the best advice is to drink plenty of water. More than plenty, in fact. Imagine yourself having run a marathon in the Mojave desert. You'd need a lot of water, no? Well, drink that, and when you have, drink another glass.

Your tank will degrade with use. Specifically, the coil unit in your tank will gum up or get coated in scorched juice. Not sure if you're using cartomizers, but it happens to them, too. Either way, the coils are disposable. Dispose them regularly (or clean them, but that is probably a topic for another day).

You might also want to invest in a reputable tank if you don't have one already. Given that you mention juices tasting better in a shop than at home suggests you might want to change your current gear. The two most popular clearomizer tanks would be the Protank family and the Aspire family. Many choices within each family; all have devout followings on this forum.

The juice... well, that is going to be the most subjective thing in the mix. What works for you will be just that - what works for you. Vaping will most likely evolve for you over time as your body adjusts to it and you experiment. For where you are now (i.e., your current dissatisfaction with flavor), I'd suggest you go for some stronger juice flavors to get you over this hump. Menthol, licorice, mint, many of the "cake" varieties are all usually quite strong. You might think they're awful sounding but you'll be surprised at how some things will do it for you. I never smoked menthol cigarettes (couldn't stand them), but I like a nice menthol vape. Black licorice candy makes me gag, but I love a good absinthe vape.

In any event, stay strong. You're in the valley of disillusionment - perfectly normal. It will pass, and this forum will help you out with that. When you get over this hump, you'll be made in the shade... and well hydrated... definitely well hydrated.

tl;dr: get a good tank, change coils, drink lots of water, try strong flavors, know you have friends to help here.

Excellent post!
For some, lots of variables and options are bad thing. I think the industry is catching up trying to cater to that. Most important thing is, stick with it and don't give up. Things will get better and easier... and TASTIER! :D

I'm going to echo a few posts above. I'm fairly new to vaping myself, only starting my 3rd week or so. That being said, I'm one of those obsessivly in-depth people. I read everything I can about what I'm into and absorb it all like a sponge.

If your battery isn't Variable Voltage, do your self a favor and get one. I have a 1300mAh Vision Spinner. It goes from 3.3V all the way to 4.8. I use Kanger Evod tanks (with a Protank 3 recently) and all the juice I use is from MT Baker. With the variable volatage, I can adjust how it burns the juice. If it's not producing vapor or flavor, I turn it up. With the Evods, I found 4.3v is perfect for almost any flavor.

Here's some of the juices I've been using.
Ecto Cooler (absolutely my favorite. Citrus mix and tastes exactly like the Hi-C drink from the late 80s/early 90s)
Black Cherry (amazing flavor)
Thug Juice (grap/watermelon with slight menthol. Tastes amazing. My Second favorite)
Grappler (grape/apple/watermelon. A little heavy on the grape, but good nonetheless)
Movie Theater Fish (Tastes exactly like Swedish Fish)
Extreme Soda (Tastes exactly like Mountain Dew)
555 Menthol (menthole tobacco with a nutty aftertaste. I did NOT like this flavor at first, but after steeping for 10 days, it's very good now)
Cucumber Mint (Free from MT Baker. Not bad. Exactly what it sounds like)

All of these flavors were amazing. Some were very weak in the beginning, but after letting them steep (usually 3-5 days) the flavor is way better.

Totally agree with this. I'm a recent ex-smoker and am still trying to find what flavors I like, and am finding they are nothing like what I like in food. Sample packs are your friend. I just got one from Good Life Vapor and fell in love with two of the 4 samples. (El Kamino & Deadly Sin) I've also found each juice has its own properties with different equipment. I love the El Kamino in my Kanger mini pro tank II, but like the deadly sin in the little evod clearomiser that came with a starter kit. Swap them and they both taste worse. (Shrugs) I have no clue why, but it's what I've experienced.

Advice helps, but it mostly comes down to experimenting and finding what works for you. I finally have a basic setup that works for keeping me from reaching for a cigarette, now I'm just experimenting to find a better vape with different tastes.

My most recent problem is I'm finding that the more expensive juice and equipment really do seem to make a better vape and I've pretty much used up all the wife appealing "but look at all the money we've saved by me not smoking". I now have to come up with reasons to spend $25 on 30ml of liquid that will be gone in less than a week, or a $100 on a battery tube (batteries not included). Lol

I'm not sure, but you may want to try an e-liquid with some amount of PG in it.
You stated that you are vaping 100% VG..
PG is propylene glycol...It carries your throat hit and flavor.
VG is vegetable glycerin...It creates the vapor.

You need to decide what is more important to you. Flavor/throat hit or vapor. Then it's easier to decide what ratio is best for you. I personally am vaping 60/40 or 50/50 and and as a fairly recent convert to vaping( 5 months), these ratios seem to work best for me.
