Hello fellow diy vapers. I have to vent, I hope you'll allow me to. As I'm sure you'll all agree that diy flavorings are hit and miss. But does it really need to be more miss than hit? I have tried flavorings from tfa, cappellas, lorann, german flavorings, mt. baker and I have to say 90% of the flavorings I have tried from all sources have been absolute trash.

I suppose I am fishing for new sources or maybe even some tips. I've been making my own juice primarily now for a year and just subscribed to zamplebox just because I am really at a "rock bottom" moment as far as my diying is concerned, and this will be my first non-diy large juice purchase in the year I've been making juice. There is a very small amount of flavors I can go back to and re-order I suppose but I really wish there was a source of higher caliber than the ones I'm used to. Any suggestions? Happy vaping everyone!

I have no idea what you are making but my tip is this.Start mixing at low percentages, like 4% total. My all day vape is between 4%-5%.Let your mix steep before trying.I love vanilla custard and it needs at least a month to get where i want it.Less than a month it is awful then bang it suddenly is the best thing i ever vaped. You need patience but once you find the perfect mix it is so worth it.Now i mix months in advance so i always have a well aged supply ready. Good luck.

I'm partial to Flavour Art. Here is a good thread with lot's of recipes. Pure Vapes has 3ml FlavourArt flavorings

If you like tobacco flavors, you might think about making your own NET's. It's a little time consuming but very easy and well worth the effort. After making and vaping several over the past few months, my other mixes taste artificial by comparison. I do add a little caramel and or vanilla and or "whatever" to some to "enhance" them.

flavors are trash?
In what way?
Most flavors do not agree with me due to being overly chemical tasting and even inflaming my mouth and throat.
I do find a few that work for me.
Most store bought juice does not work for me either.

And I mix around 5-7% total flavor.

That is why i can't go over 5%,all i taste are chemicals.Even at 5% all i taste is chemicals without a good long steep.

Keep in mind those store bought juices use the same flavorings, there is no secret flavoring company that I know of. The difference is in the recipe/mix. Have you tried some of the clone recipes and other highly rated ones or mostly ones you are creating? Are you using several flavors or mainly 1 or 2 in a recipe? Knowing these things will help us to help you.

    Well, don't go over 5%.

Where are you getting the recipes that you are following and what recipes have worked for you? Very few flavors work as a stand alone. Find some recipes that sound close to flavors you have liked before and start from there. You are using several brands of flavoring that many many people here use and consider good flavorings

I've played around with flavorings for 2 or 3 years by adding them to bland juice from vendors. Post FDA, I realized that my vaping future was dependent on developing my mixing talents and finally got into DIY full force. Early on, it became apparent that I needed to absorb the knowledge of the experienced DIY members here on ECF.

One of the first things I discovered was that all flavorings aren't created equally. Most of that is in the concentration levels of the flavors, but there's always a difference between one brand and another. Some flavors are good at 1% to 2% and others might not blossom until you reach 10% or 15%. Some (most) require steeping time, so you can't always make it and vape it the same day. Others are not bad the same day, but grow into something much better after a week or two of steeping.

Patience and education is required to make a good juice and one person's favorite might be a discard for your tastes. If a juice needs 2% flavor and you add 5%, you may not like it and never buy that flavoring again. Start low, experiment over time, read others' recipes, and develop a sense for what else needs to be added. Wait a few days and let it steep before deciding that it needs more flavor.

You can add flavorings over time, but you can't always take away once it's too much. You can cut a too strong mix by adding a plain PG/VG/Nic mix to cut it in half and maybe correct the flavoring, but it's best to start low and work up in flavoring concentration.

Vanilla custard yes.I use CAP Vanilla custard version 2.It tastes awful to me if i don't leave it for a month then starts to get dramatically better.2-3 months it is heaven. That is no problem for me now as i mix so far in advance. My ADV is 2% CAP vanilla custard v2,2% CAP French vanilla v2.I have tried all sorts of recpies and always come back to this.I opened a bottle last night that was 4 months old, without doubt the best vape i have ever had.

My suggestion is buy ready-made concentrates (I think that's what's going to be big in the future; it's already so, in fact) instead of following more complicated/expensive recipes.
Of course, there'll always be a space for simple flavours and recipes. It just depends on what you're after.

    Hmm...

Yes, but you can always choose among them so that you'll only get the ones that won't cause you any problems.

Steep times depend on the manufacturer and on the particular concentrate. But I'm not not a good example as I'm mostly ready-to-go-as-soon-as-it's-made. But yes, as a general tule of thumb, you could let them steep for up to a week if it's fruits, between two weeks and a month if it's desserts, between one and three months if it's tobaccos. But I'm really just saying this by heart and in general terms because I don't pay much attention to steeping times.

When i first started vaping i found a flavor called Vanilladelphia that i loved but it was just too strong.I found that if a cut the 30 ml bottle into 3 30 ml bottles with unflavored it was perfect and even tastier than the original. It somehow opened up the flavors and saved me a fortune as well. That was when i decided DIY was for me.Now i have a simple dirt cheap recipe that i never tire of and costs me next to nothing.
