LOL! And she hopes to someday head a business!

You wouldn't be laughing if you were teaching my classes. :( It's really pathetic. Some students are so stellar and do their best. Then I have some students (like the one noted in my prior post). I think I have at least five students this quarter that claim that there was a death in the family for several weeks in a row during this quarter. It really amazes me. Why would students shell out major money for college if they aren't going to do the work?

Totally annoying and frustrating. All the more need for me to vape. :)

They're probably spending mommy and daddy's money on college.

Good for you! I didn't. :(

Well you have to remember three hours uninterrupted is a luxury for me. :(

love the ..... catto avatar there gotlogos. We just got 2 new black 8week old terrors, both brothers from the humane society. If I can ever get them to slow down long enough to snap a pic of them both together I will upload them :)

Wait till they climb the curtains and look for you to get em down, that would be cute.

It is amazing what kind of pets you can get from the animal shelters. I got Sparky from the Florida SPCA (Human Society in Florida). He came in the night before we got there, just before closing. Most of the staff didn't even know he was there.

We got there about 2 hours after they opened. There are about 40 cages and he was in the very last cage. I had never seen a dog that looked like him and fell instantly in love. I even stole the paper attached to the cage that identified him. It is also the only way you can adopt them.

Abi was looking around at the other dogs and there was another one that was really beautiful which we were deciding on before we saw Sparky. That was where she was. After seeing Sparky, Abi kept looking at other dogs. I said, "Abi, you can keep looking at the dogs. Oh, but we are getting this one!". ;-)

There were so many great dogs and cats. Some dogs were pure breeds. Some of he cats were amazingly unique looking. All of them were great. We just got the greatest dog! Abi is now stuck on getting a cat from the SPCA. They had some really pretty kittens there too. Now that my niece brought her kitten over and Sparky was in love with it, it may not be a bad idea.

I applaud you on your rescue. It think it is great that you got both brothers so they didn't get separated. Your family is large enough to give them lots of love and attention too.

Definitely with you guys on the shelters. Also, even if you have your heart set on a particular breed of dog, there's a pretty good chance of a rescue group for that breed being nearby. Each rescue group is operated a bit differently, but most of them take in rescues of a particular breed, or mutts that have some of that same particular breed in them.

They are usually great groups- one complaint I hear from people is "Well if they can rescue dogs of one breed, why not just rescue all dogs?". I wondered that myself, so I asked a friend and colleague of my wife, who runs a Beagle rescue group here in town. (Oh, have I mentioned that I am OBSESSED with beagles? I've told Donna that we need a lot of land when we grow up because I want like a hundred of them, all running around baying at the top of their lungs and flopping their ears every which way. I'm like "beagle beagle beagle beagle beagle beagle".) :AHEM: She said that most of these breed rescue groups are small, volunteer groups who do the rescuing/fostering of the animals part time. Only having one specific breed allows for the volume of animals coming to this group to be relatively small- with few members doing it on a part-time basis, having a glut of animals incoming would be impossible to deal with. Also, many breeds have specific health issues and needs, so whichever breed a group is rescuing can be assured that their foster and adoptive family has been well-briefed on their particular special needs.

Ok, story time now.

So a few weeks ago, Donna and I were taking Moonshine (The oft-mentioned and oft-threatened with death Parrot) to the pet store so he could meet people and pick out some new toys. It's one of his favorite things to do, and we try to arrange our schedules so that we have at least one free saturday afternoon every couple of weeks to do it. Anyway, just so happened on this particular day, at this particular pet store, there was a large rescue group meeting. A PUG rescue group. Are you following me here? I opened the door to the petstore and saw a HERD OF FREAKING PUGS!!!!!! (Yes, I know a group of dogs isn't called a herd. Eff Yoo. This was a herd.) They were absolutely everywhere. It was like....the most amount of cute I'd ever seen in one place at one time. I immediately dropped to the ground and was absolutely rolling in pugs, laughing like an idiot as half a dozen of them had a licking contest on my head. Everywhere you looked, there was a rotund little smooshface waddling around as happy as could be. I estimate there were 50+ pugs. (This was a very large pet store, by the way.) Moonshine was loving it too, he really gets fascinated by dogs in general, and had never seen wrinkly little fat ones who looked like cartoons. We even met one pug with one eye and 3 legs. Donna named him Lucky. Anyway, that was the best day at the pet store ever. I was in cute overload mode for the rest of the weekend.

I'm With you guys about the rescue shelters, with all the dogs and cats out there in shelters it is the only way to go, after we had to put our Golden Retriever down this past summer :( which we had picked up from a small shelter 12 years ago, we went and rescued another pup :) this time a beautiful white husky "Zephyr".. complete with the trademark one brown, one blue eye :thumb: zep.jpg

he was just about 1 year old when we got him... he was skin and bones and still had the scabbing from where the jack-... that he was taken from had let his collar grow right into his skin! I will NEVER understand how someone can go and get a beautiful puppy or kitten and just neglect and abuse them like that, I'd love to get my hands on one of these :censored: one day!
he is a great dog.. even after all he went through. he is very loving, and quite a clown! LOL but I do wonder sometimes if he isn't a "terminator" though8-ozepterminator.jpg

mikev - Zephyr is a beautiful boy! I'm glad that you rescued him.

We rescued our dogs (pit bull and beagle). When we got the beagle (Stoli), he was a mess. He had skin/fur problems and heartworms. Someone dropped him off in on a street in my neighborhood. Isn't that sick? Before we found Stoli, we had a very sweet dobey mix (Brittany). She lived a few blocks from our house and was chained to a fence. We brought over wire cutters and stole her. The people never even tried to look for her. It really disgusts me the way people treat harmless animals.

My mother is down here from Connecticut to help me out due to the surgery. She is madly in love with Sparky. Now she is insistant that I get another Paperanian and is scouring all of the shelters in the area. She found one in a shelter in Orlando and is going on Friday to see if she can get Sparky a friend.

I am afraid she is going to try and steal my Baby Boy. :(

Thank you Vaporgal :) I always liked your doggie in your avatar pic ... reminds me of one of the dogs at the shelter we went to.. his name was "benny" LOL he was a very cute dog! my wife fell in love with him, but then again she fell in love with just about every dog they had there.. I was very lucky to come away from that place with only the one dog!! LOL the rescue shelter was a small one, run by a husband and wife on their farm.. they specialized in the "Bully breeds" but they would take in what ever dogs they could handle. I never spent much time with "Bulldog" type doggies! LOL... I fell in love with a few of them too, so CUTE ... if I had a bigger place we would have taken a few more home with us ;)
I love the fact that you went over and "stole" as you say Brittany, I would just call it what it was... you "saved" her!

Thanks - I'm glad you like my avatar picture (that's Raleigh, aka Squishy). :) Your wife sounds like me. It's very difficult to go to shelters. I always want to bring home all the animals. You wouldn't believe how many stray cats and their kittens I've let live in our house during cold fronts. It's so hard for me to give them up.

The shelter sounds so cool. I love bulldogs! Well... I love all animals though. :)

We did save Brittany. For a large dog, she lived a very long life. She never got sick, but just got too tired and old at the age of 14. I loved that girl. :)
