Looking to start a thread about random/generic comments and questions people get about their ecig.

Since John Q. Public is all-knowing because they watch CNN once a week, you get some REALLY funny, rude and sometimes very demoralizing questions.

The one statement I absolutely HATE to hear is "Hey, did you know they make those in fruity flavors to get kids hooked?"

What do I respond?

"It's not to get kids hooked, it's to taste something other than cigarettes. They make flavored condoms, are those condom companies trying to make little 6 year olds have sex because their condoms taste like a lollipop? No. I'm also pretty sure distilleries don't make flavored vodka with the intention of getting 8 year olds smashed on cake flavored vodka either."

Limit, one question per thread, let's see how long we can stretch this out.

What comments do you guys/girls love and hate to hear?

I go all out when people tell me what's in my nicquid. I've actually gone as far as printing out little pieces of paper with all my links that prove what I'm saying and sticking them in my wallet to hand out.

Another one I hate hearing is "Did you know they put all sorts of nasty chemicals in those?"

"No, actually, 'they' don't. However I make my own liquid, and I know exactly what I'm putting in it. Propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, artificial flavorings and nicotine. PG and VG have both been used in asthma inhalers so I'm assuming those are a lot safer considering the FDA allows sufferers of asthma to inhale them. Nicotine will always be harmful, however nicotine is almost the same chemical compound as caffeine. Artifical flavorings haven't been proven whether or not they're harmful when inhaled, but considering the alternative is the cyanide, arsenic, rocket fuel, formaldehyde and god knows what else -- I think I'll take this calculated risk and continue vaping."

I haven't had any really negative things said to me. Just the normal quizzical looks and such and the occasional question.

However, one time I was walking around a corner and exhaling right as I went around and the cloud I let out went right into a guys face. (He was coming from the other direction.) Immediately I began apologizing, I know I wouldn't want that to happen to me. His response was this.

"No need to apologize, that stuff smells great!"

We talked for a couple minutes about vaping and misinformation, and that was it. :)

What a pleasant-sounding experience. I guess people are just crotchety from my area. I've only had a few positive influences.

funny enough, the only rude/dumb comments I've received are from smokers.

"I've heard those smell really bad"
"Did you know those are worse than cigarettes?"
"Those are more addictive than cigarettes."

And of course the famous antifreeze comment.

Then there's the director at my job who could no longer care I'm alive because she can't bum smokes from me. She said "Oh god, are you still playing with that thing?"

irwink - That's amazing, I've only had three people tell me that my ecig smells good.

Robin - That anti-freeze comment seems popular, although I've never heard it before. I was aware that propylene glycol is a main component in anti-freeze due to it's incredibly low freezing point. I actually smear PG with a paint brush over the windows of my car at night when I know it's going to snow/sleet or make some form of ice, when I wake up in the morning, it all just slides off, LOL.

I can't imagine someone would even make that comment though, propylene glycol is very prominent in baking use as well. If you have a store bought cake or pastry item, look on the label, if you can't find Propylene glycol on the ingredients list, I'd give you all the money in my pocket.

I had no idea what PG was before I started vaping, so my guess is that they don't know either and just picked up a bit of anti-vaping propaganda from the trash articles on the internet or "a friend told them". This sounds horrid enough that this bit of "info" sticks with them. The couple times I've heard it I've retorted with "well yes, it's made from the same ingredient they NOW use in anti-freeze to keep kids and pets from dying if they get into it. It's the same stuff hospitals pump through their air filtration systems..". So far that has rendered them unable to then say much more than "oh, ok."

My former co-worker, who claimed that the "smell" from vaping (outside) gave him abdominal cramps (and would then clutch his stomach dramatically and run for the men's room), was the most extreme absurdity I've gotten so far ...

I think we can expect the media disinformation about toxicity and "anti-freeze" to achieve urban legend status ...

But its hard when visiting in Mexico, where every smoker I've talked to about it wants to try vaping, some even offer to by my PV on the spot. I have to try to explain that, without a source of juice and a charger, it will be useless to them after a few hours ...

The tobacco industry in Mexico was protected early in the game by a federal e-cig ban ...

The one I HATE always comes from smokers - "You know those things are blowing people's faces off right?"

...from the guy igniting plant matter inches from his own face.....

I've heard that's also happened from people using incorrectly-wired homemade mods. IE: The stacked batteries BOTH power the atomizer, instead of one battery acting as a "charger" for the other to increase battery life.

A friend of mine told me her son has switched to ecigs (great!) but he'll only use cigalikes because "those big batteries" (pointing to my eGo) will blow up in your face." :)facepalm:)
