As the title mentions, I recently got one of these nifty little tanks, and boy has it given me some problems!

I've tried wrapping coils with steel mesh many different times, and ever time I do it seems that the part of the wire in open air between the wick and the center post contact heats and breaks almost instantly.

I'm using a Bolt (6V), and the coils are reading ~2.0 ohms.

Is this simply a matter of too high power, or am I wrapping it wrong? Might I need to make it a dual coil?

i've lurked quite heavily on this topic since i was having the same problem with my new genesis. if your steel mesh isnt properly and thoroughly oxidized, it will act as a ground and short your coils. ive seen different techniques on how to oxidize. the basic principle is to create a carbon layer between the steel mesh so the coil will not short. the most common is to torch and juice-quench (light it on fire with your juice). i saw igetcha69s video and after he torched his steel mesh, he wrapped it with cigarette rolling paper and then wrapped the coil around it and dry fired to scorch the paper which created a nice layer of carbon between the coil and the steel mesh. hope that helps

Put in one 350, and pulse it slow. Aren't you throwing 7.4 at it whilst stacked?

EDIT: It takes 5 SECONDS. Just wrap the coil, don't oxidize. Now, just tap the fire button. Over and over, you are trying to throw ox. onto it that way. I do it with my mech all the time.
You'll slowly see the power go throughout more and more of the coil.

Alright, you were 100% right. Now my issue is getting a burnt-... taste. Do I need more resistance, I take it?
No. Now the issue is wicking. Tilt it horizontal or a degree under while vaping.

I actually use a piece of 3mm silica rolled in the SS, for two wicking agents.
But at 1.0 I need to tip sometimes.

Oh, and always thoroughly oxidize DRY...burnt could be from lack of ox still and only that one strand going super hot instantly.
This all sounds like so much, but when it becomes like breathing to you, you are going to laugh someday. Hopefully.

I got a few good hits from it, but it's really hard to make a good coil on such a small length of wick and such high voltage. Thank you all for your help, this is something I am definitely looking more into.

this is where the drillbit trick shines, you build the coil on it first then just slide the wick in.
