Ok, so yesterday I get my DID clone, right as i'm going out the door. Spend all night at work looking forward to it, got a torch, rolling papers and cotton ready to go. I get home, excited as can be, and I try rolling a wick.

***EEEEERRRRRRR BOOMMM!!!!*** Crash! How in the HELL am I supposed to get this to fit in the hole? (Ha! That's what..er..he said!) Seriously, no matter how tight I rolled the wick, it just will not fit at all. Now, I used the mesh that comes with the kit, and didn't cut it, as I had heard Scott (igetcha69) say that 40mm X 30mm is a perfect size. I got the wick jammed in there, which took forever. And it was scraped sooo much that I knew I would have to use the cotton method.

So I use the cotton method, roll a coil, hits like a champ for a few hits. Then it's dry. The wick is so friggin tight in there it won't wick at all. Now, can somebody help me? What size wick should I use to roll. I cut another piece in half, so I have about a 15mm x 40mm wick rolled. Looks like it should fit but i'm concerned it wont wick well being so thin. Anybody got any advice for me? I've been using a Phoenix for a while now and I have no problem wrapping a coil, infact, it is soooo much easier on a genesis than a phoenix. The coil I wrapped looked perfect, had no hotspots at all, and vaped like a monster, done in about 30 seconds. But this wick business is a major turn off.

Thanks for any help in advance!!!

I just read that entire thread for the 2nd time (I had already read it before) and I still see nothing about people not getting their wicks to stay rolled tight. I can roll it tight, but no matter what I do it springs back into being half wound. I tried one of the cut in half, skinny wicks and it's working and wicking, but I think it could be a lot better.

Are you trying to roll the wick around something like a needle or paperclip? I stopped doing that a long time ago.

Now I just measure out what I need, maybe get one side started with a paperclip but then that's it. I just start rolling it up with my fingers. squeeze and roll, squeeze and roll, squeeze and roll all in the same direction until it becomes super tight and solid. this way, since there is no paperclip down the hole, I can fine tune the total of the diameter of the wick as I'm rolling to get it exactly how I want it .

I do this on all my wicks and they stay super tight and solid at all times.....no coming un-done here.

here is a lil closer idea of how I do it:

cut yer piece:

get it started:

roll it into a roll, go easy here, we just want to start it rolling:

squeeze and roll, a lil more pressure this time:

squeeze and roll a lil tighter, go ahead get after it:

...a lil tighter, put some effort into it:

..until it's a solidly tight rolled lil tube:

still has a small hole through it:

made that wick in about 30 sec with no paperclip or nuthin just to take these pics ;) I roll it like that pressing really tightly yet evenly. if you find that that's too small a wick, roll one with a lil more material but keep rolling it tight until it can't get it any smaller. Don't be afraid to use a lot of pressure to roll it tight. This will not come un-done unless you are trying to unroll it.

Thank you so much for the pics! I'm finally starting to get it down. Yeah, I needed to use A LOT more pressure, I was afraid I would crush the wick but that is definitely not the case at all! Thanks sprainz!!!

Yeah, I was having some issue getting the included piece of mesh rolled small enough to fit through the hole at first as weel and found that it did require a fair amount of squeezing and also sort of pulling outward while rolling when it got pretty small. The second one I made went nice and easy knowing that.
