Know something i dont? Urinary tract infection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I qoute Since bacteria can enter the urinary tract through the urethra (an ascending infection), poor toilet habits (such as wiping back to front for women) can predispose to infection.

Pls dont comment to me like i was an idiot i wont write anything if i dident know what i was talking about.
I can link more pages if you want.

I don't think adrenalynn's post was meant to offend you, topso. I myself have never heard of a doctor not recommending drinking lots of water for any type of bladder, kidney, or urinary tract infection.
Also, the way you worded it, it looks like the doctor said "it's gross"
which, of course would be very unprofessional!

Whoa!! Slow down ladies. Sometimes we take things out of context. Look up and research the difference between a UTI and a bacterial infection and do not use Wikipedia; it is not reliable. Please PM me if you want more details, and I would be happy to give you details. I think this is something that needs to be left off the forum. INMO.

I'm going to disagree with leaving it off the forum, changes in pH are noted as a side effect of vaping, and substantial change to pH is a contributing factor in encouraging growth of bacteria and emergence of cystitis (UTI).

As far as sources, I'd prefer something more like:

David S Howes, MD, Residency Program Director, Professor of Medicine, Section of Emergency Medicine, University of Chicago/Pritzker School of Medicine

For eMedicine/WebMD

As/Per: Urinary Tract Infection, Female: eMedicine Emergency Medicine

Note Pathophysiology, PP2

This would allow us to speculate that observing substantial pH changes in vaping and acute UTI may not be unrelated. Not as the vector, of course, but as a potential contributing factor.

Now - specifically stated, where is the disagreement to this hypothesis?

As always: consult with a qualified medical doctor (or two or three) for medical conditions. Forum discussions are DISCUSSIONS, not diagnosis.

Now...now....lets not pick on the WIKI....

Most of Wiki's accuracy problems are in easily-biased areas of politics, social science, etc. (the people stuff). Their real science is actually very good. Mainly because alot is lifted directly from other more dedicated sources through the miracle of copy/paste/change-a-few-words. Accuracy good....plagarism....bad. ;)

What do you mean by "changes in pH are noted"? Noted by whom? Has it been actually measured, studied, analyzed in a lab? Are there any published papers? Or is it just anecdotal? Specifically stated, there is no diagreement yet, just a question: what is the hypothesis based on?

Thank you. I have read that section carefully. "Limited extent" seems to be the operative word. This a very new field and, to my knowledge, no rigorous medical studies have been conducted yet. I've been on a lookout for them. They'll come, I'm sure, but for now we are all just speculating, observing and trying to figure out what we're doing. That's why I find this forum so interesting, we're sharing our OBSERVATIONS. We don't really know anything yet. We're all learning.

Your cat should be able to retrieve it...

Annecdotally, my pH ramped over to a diagnosis of acute acidosis (MD, sports medicine specialist drew the sample and sent it to the lab, lab confirmed), second test two weeks later was spot-on my norm. That was prior to my reading of the thread, and two days after quitting cigarettes and starting vaping. There are multiple problems with that case since two variables (the quit and the start) are identically timed, and an n=1, but it is a data-point.

Acidosis? That's really interesting. And you think there's a connection to vaping? Hmm...Bacteria causing a urinary tract infection or bacterial contamination will produce alkaline urine. That's why the famous cranberry juice is so effective. UTI is totally incompatible with acidosis. Alkalosis--UTI. I'm really confused now.

Yup. Agreed. But you change your pH down and then it's gotta come back up. That's the "acute" part, right? :) Our body chemistry doesn't seem to have very good Khalman Filtering. [engineering/math joke]. It takes a period of time for equilibrium to be reached, and in that time a little over/under/over/under.

With something approaching certainty, lactic acid buildup is described as a side effect. Other than consuming muscle, where would it be coming from [that is common to so many respondents]. If this were one of my cycling forums, that'd be one thing - but recovery wouldn't be so pronounced.
