Getting Sick of Ego Batteries...

Hello, all. Looking for a little bit of advice before I go out and dump a bunch of money on something that I may not love.

I've been vaping for close to two years -- I started doing it to get myself to stop smoking cigarettes, and I haven't smoked a cigarette in just over a year now. But now I'm looking for a better vaping experience just for the sheer pleasure of vaping.

I'm currently using VV Ego batteries with a T-Dux (smok) bottom coil tank/clearomizer. I'm very sick of my batteries constantly breaking (I just bought a Vision Spinner 2 I think about 2 months ago that already stopped working) and I find myself not always being satisfied and wanting to chain hit my vape -- Also it seems like I rarely get the kind of hit I want, especially if the battery isn't full; I want to keep turning the voltage up beyond the point where it starts tasting burnt. I alternate between using a 1.8ohm dual coil and a 2.4 single coil (the latter mostly just for better battery life).

I mix my own juice so the issue with the kind of hit and throat hit I'm getting has been experimented with. So now I'm looking to upgrade my hardware... My biggest obstacle is I'm on a budget.

I was thinking about getting a fully mechanical mod, because it seems GREAT that there aren't any wires and electronic bits that can fail randomly a few weeks after I buy the damn thing.

I was also looking at the Aspire CF Sub-ohm and the Atlantis tank, and I almost bought one. I'm just a little hesitant to spend $80 if I decide that I don't want to sub ohm. I was thinking about maybe just getting a mechanical mod first and trying out my current tanks (or would they just hit exactly the same as my VV's set to 3.7?) then maybe buying a sub-ohm tank from there if I decide I want more power? I don't know if I want to venture into trying to build my own coils yet, though I'm not completely opposed to the idea if it's going to provide a substantial improvement in my vaping experience.

I need something that is durable enough to carry around in my pocket all day long and withstand occasionally being dropped. Something that I can vape at work and at home.

Any input/thoughts/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Aspire CF is basically an EGO battery on steroids. I think maybe take a look into the iStick 30 watt or 50 watt (if you see a dripper in your future). I think the Atlantis is good but have not had the new cotton coils, personally I would say go with the Subtank, comes with a rebuildable deck so you can make your own coils when you are ready, also really easy to Re- use the stock coils (just put new cotton in).

A mech will burn up those coils on the tank you have, you can also get the subtank with 1.2 ohm coils but I think buy reading through a couple more times you should look into an iStick 20w or 30w and a Nautilus. Little bit tighter draw and fully adjustable wattage.

iStick 30 watt sounds like it's right up your alley! It'll work with what you've already got and if you decide to get an Atlantis or Sub-Ohm tank it will let you vape on those as well. The battery life is awesome and the mod itself is pretty durable.

I wouldn't go mech mod right away unless you read up on your battery safety and ohm's law... They've got a learning curve to them, lol. It's certainly an option down the road but for where you're at sticking with a regulated device is probably your best bet.

are you sure the batteries are genuine? i've bought a couple of dodgy chinese knock offs in the past without realising...

also....... as per my second ever post on here... if you're not getting a decent hit, check your airholes.... sometimes the simplest solutions are the best

I have nothing to offer except a hello, someone with more experience will help you. I can say you can be point in a direction but you will have the final say. This coming from someone that took 6 months and money to find what I like, and I'm still learning.

My wife, Daughter and son in-law all have Istick 20W and Kanger Subtank Nano's. My wife really likes them once she figured out that she had to use lower nicotine and higher VG due to the higher RMS voltage it delivers versus what the display shows. (over 4 volts when set to 3 volts)

My daughter and son in-law both hate the subtank nano's and aren't willing to drop their Nic level or use the 1.8 ohm sub tank head I rebuilt for them.
With a higher resistance it's possible to adjust the Istick 20W to a voltage that give a good vape.

I recommend finding something that appeals to your taste, is capable of 30 or more watts and sub ohm then check out any reviews on it.

Remember you don't have to use a sub ohm atty or run at full wattage but it's nice to have the capability should you decide to try it out.

I am using a Dovpo DT-50 and yes I tried several sub ohm builds and up to 30 watts but my normal all day vape is 1.5 ohms on a Sub Tank or Kayfun at 10 to 12 watts.

A mech does require that you are willing to pay attention to details and are somewhat mechanically oriented (see what I did there?!?)

But..they definitely won't burn up coils any faster than an ego will--they are not super charged or anything..they are just deeper. They only run at 4.2 when fully charged although they will run full voltage for as long as you keep the hammer down unlike many ego batteries that sag under load.

Folks who run mechs start with a full charge at 4.2 volts and run them down to anywhere between 3.8 to 3.6 or so before recharging depending on personal preference.


Also--you don't have to sub ohm or be a cloud chaser to use one. I went mech because I got tired of many different ego style batts dying, sagging under load and/or not holding a charge long enough--even authentics.

Look at the MVP. Probably the most reliable well built mod for the money and backed by a great company. You can pick up the 20 watt version right now for about 30-40 bucks. I have one and have recently began building my own coils on a rebuildable atomizer. I build mine down to 1.2 ohms and it's a great vape. 1ohm is the limit for the 20 watt while I think the 30W will fire coils down to.5 ohm. You will not find a more reliable and durable mod in the price range of the MVP. It is tried and true and has a great reputation.

I agree 100% with Niten13 and Squirrley03...if you're an "analog-convert" vapist you will be immensely delighted with the 30Watt-iStick and Aspire Nautilus (or Mini) with BVC's.

If you're a "hobby vapist"...you probably should look at a Mech and an Atlantis (but I have no interest in sub-ohming so I can't really help you there).

Since you're "on a budget"...you may want to consider the GS Air ($8.98 with $9.95 for a 5 Pack of coils) instead of the Nauty. Many in the GS Air thread like them even better than their Nautilus's.

When I got my first mech I put a normal clearo on it and was burning coils all the time, the tank was really only ment for like 9 watts or lower. My little tobh atty i started with was great on it though.

Some good suggestions here - I'll give to the iSticks - I used Innokin VV3s and MVP2.0s most of last year. Late last year I grabbed the iPV Mini (and the Mini 2) Few weeks ago, I grabbed the iStick 50 and I liked it so much, I grabbed an iStick 30. Those now are my two primary rigs. I run PT2s (rebuild my own coils) as well as Kanger Subtank Nanos. I've not tried the Atlantis, but I have a couple of Nautilus tanks that are o.k. for me.

Vapenw has the iStick 30 and 50 for pretty good price (and supposedly if you buy juice, they'll ship order for free.... Don't know if it's worth it - especially if you're mixing your own.)

I'm finding I like the airier draw of the Nano. Lets me hit pretty hard (lower nic!) Form factor of the rig (box or tube?), mechanical or regulated (I prefer regulated), build your own coils or drop in a pre-built? Lots of options - it's rough to throw money at something and not know if you're going to like it....

Do you have a vape shop nearby? If so, would they let you try stuff out? Then you can get a better idea of what you might like before you drop $$$

Since you've already used ego batts I'd suggest a device with replacable batteries. Its more of an investment, but it pays for itself in the long run. I'd hate for you to buy an iStick and have it fail on you within a week/month/year since thats what you're dealing with right now.

I'd like to second heading to the stores if that's an option for you, even if you ultimately end up purchasing elsewhere. I had great luck getting to actually vape on several different types of devices. And knowing how something feels in your hands can make a difference. I also needed a device that travelled well and had a tank that was more steel than glass b/c of how I knew I'd use it. There are steel tanks with glass windows, steel "cages" for glass tanks, and there are even just plain steel tanks available for some models. As a noob, I don't think I'm qualified to suggest an option, but I know after all the research I did that you can definitely find something that will meet your requirements. And congrats! on being off cigs for over a year.

I'd recommend the iStick 50W over the 30W. There is very little size difference and the 50W comes with a 4400 mah battery that lasts a really long time.

I liked mine so much I bought 2 of them.

the istick 30 and Atlantis is nice, but on a buget look at the Kamry 20 I have 2 of them they are great, also look at the Eleaf Melo same tank as the Atlantis but half the price, I also have a melo its a great sub ohm tank, for a great hit and everyday vaping i would go wth a kamry 20 and a eleaf gs air tank, you could get a kamry and a gs air for about $40 great set up.

I know this is probably going to result in a bunch of different people with different suggestions -- but what is a good place that has affordable prices and always AUTHENTIC and working equipment? Up until now I've been doing most of my shopping through madvapes (or occasionally ebay, but i'm aware that's a gamble on authenticity) but madvapes has a subpar selection that's constantly out-of-stock. I don't have a good vape shop near me, really, not without driving about an hour.

I think that I may heed the advice of BrandonR and a few others and go the route of something that has replaceable batteries. I've done a bit of research and I'm willing to learn my ohm laws, it really seems quite simple (I mix my own liquid using concentrated nicotine, so I'm careful and responsible with this stuff and wouldn't just throw something together without educating myself on the matter). I'm not completely sold yet but I'm leaning that way... I do like the idea of the IStick in that it's sturdier, has a longer lasting battery, and would work with my current tanks as well as sub ohms...

I'm also thinking that I like the idea of the Kanger Subtank... Something that I can use prebuilt low or sub ohms with but eventually switch to rebuildable when I feel like taking the leap.

Question: Are you allowed to buy and sell things (via Paypal) through these forums?

Has anyone had any problems with the ISticks at all? Like if I'm dropping $45 can I expect the thing to last for at least a full year and still hold a full charge and function correctly?

And -- If I decide to go the mech mod route -- Any suggestions? I was looking at the Kamry K100 and the Smok Magneto...

Or should I maybe stay away from the mechanicals for now? One thing is that I'm going to be carrying my everyday vaper around in my pocket and I've seen a few disclaimers that you shouldn't just leave mods in your pocket cuz they can be firing without you noticing. Maybe I should just get an IStick now for everyday use and buy a cheap mod in the future to mess around with at home?
