Wegster, I read some of your story, and I have to admit giggling, I can so relate to all you went through, including the parcel delivery....that was brilliant,

you are right, if newbies would take the time to read through these tales, they would learn the answers to all they need to know, but so many wont take the time to do it.

Exactly..it's funny NOW, but *grrr* at the time :D I tend to write or mess about on forums or random googling/wikipedia when I need a break and can get one for a bit. I'm sure eventually will write something to 'come back and haunt me,' but until then :)

And I'm sure many of us have very similar stories...

I used to try to help newbies quite a bit. I started feeling like a hypocrite recommending 510 models to brand new e-smokers when here I am sitting here with my GG hahaha!!

I went through various 901s, 801s, 401s, then 510 to finally decide I needed a big boy. Makes me appreciate more what my GG does for me knowing what the other e-cigs did not do for me. It was a costly journey though.

You're right - there are SO many that jump into starting threads without having done any homework at all. I've seen some start multiple threads asking the same thing but having a slightly different title.

You try to help them and then they keep asking more inane questions that lets you know they are not even reading the responses to their questions. That gets irritating.

I pretty much just point them to the Newbie videos and the supplier's forums now.

Its so hard to help new people, especially in the new members area. You cant recommend a make, or the finger of fanboy/girl will be pointed, you cant recommend a supplier for the same reasons, and now you are afraid they are not who they say they are...

Its impossible, so as you say Mamu direct them to the videos...lol

Weg, if only they would read, and lighten up a bit, after all, stage one is lurking... so maybe there should be a lurkers forum, full of good reading material, what do you guys think?

Ha Ha Ha I read a lot of get a 510 there great. It would have been nice to get the real scoop. Which is before waisting a lot of money on cheap stuff go get something that is using 6volts - GG, Prodigy. I wish the 80$ I spent on my low powered 510 & PCC that the reviews said "produces huge clouds of vapor" would have gone toward something better. Something the veterans allready know about. You Fanboy the GG all the time, why not help the new people by telling them what you really think. I read a lot on the form but should have kept reading past the fanboy mentality for the 510.

I had only been vaping for 4 or 5 weeks before I got my GG. However, what got me researching and also to the GG so quickly was the often repeated comment "I wish I hadn't wasted money on cheaper e-cigs at the beginning"...

You are lucky Vaug, me too. After a 901 and a SD, finally I made the GG:)

Let's see... Here's my list on my journey to the GG.

    Red Dragon (Don't judge)
NJoy NPro from the local convenience store because I didn't want to wait for the Red Dragon to arrive.
    Two different 401 kits
    510
    DPV9

    I may be forgetting a few... :p

Obviously I didn't do any (or much) research with the first two. But I did with the others - best I could. I read and read, trying to sort the fact from the hype. Which was the most popular (best sellers), durability, reliability, as well as which suited my needs.

The massive information on this site is overwhelming and can be quite difficult to sort through. I'm all about trying to help others and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a 510 since I had reasonable success with it. Not everyone wants (or even should have) a 'big boy'. Especially for their first e-cig. IMO

But it's a HUGE pet peeve of mine when some just jump on the board and *demand* to be spoonfed information without doing any legwork of their own - whether it's on this sub-forum or any other. They need to do their own homework and then ask informed questions. They'd look a lot less foolish and will be better received.

    IMO, of course.

First of all, the 510 was and still is a great starter e-cig.

Second, anyone recommending a big boy to very new e-smokers would get absolutely raked over the coals by the "veteran" e-smokers who are completely satisfied with their 510 model.

I have friends who have no interest in 6 volt vaping and are quite happy vaping with their 510s.

The big boys are not for everyone.

Someone that is new to vaping does not know, how to vape right.
The GG requires alot of liquid and they would most likely burnt up there atomizers. They wouldn't fed GG right and the Atomizer would get too hot.

I recommend 510's to newbie for this reason. The newbie has not learn how to vape right. If someone has been vaping for a while. I than would recommend the GG.

Suzi, the info is huge and anyone here will get confused. Before the GG (I had no intention to make anything), I searched and searched and nothing good to the sky, until I heard about SD.

The next of the story is known.

Your journey was not small, but hopefully not big enough:D

Imeo, I don't regret any part of my journey. (Well... maybe a few parts. :p) It all led me here - my final destination.

As Just Julie so nicely put it... it's helped me kick a lifelong nasty cigarette habit and one can never put a price tag on that.

    :)

Who dosen't like theres and why? It seems to me everyone loves it.

To the guy in Greece making them, bravo. Finish that auto-feed system (transformer?) I would love to purchase the GG with that. If it works as good as it does in the video it will be awesome. I would love to be a walking talking advertisement for it here in California.

Well, there kinda is - all the sticky threads, plus the wiki.

I got annoyed when I saw a few posters basically give one answer, and always only a single supplier, for a single e-cig. That, to me, is utter fanboydom. So, when I see it, I paste in my supplier links (with prices) for the 401, 510, or KR, to at least let people know they have choices. Lately, I *have* been an innovapor.com fanboy, but they also offer the only/cheapest single bat/atty/charger 510 and EVO kits I've seen, plus have gotten really good service, and *know* after compiling said lists, everything is competitive.

You also get people asking 'how much nic do I get' when FOUR POSTS UP IN THE SAME FORUM is...tada, 'nicotine intake' thread.

So it IS hard. I'm used to finding my answers, as much as I can, myself. Educate myself, then ask questions, some may be stupid, but at least it's not the equivalent of standing up, then asking where the floor is, basically not looking/doing for yourself at *all*. And some stuff truly *is* hard to find yourself, or is just interesting to discuss. But, I know others are different, so try to answer helpfully whenever possible, but at times, make sure I'm not wanting to scream at them over the net before answering :D

Eventually, I'll distill all the stuff I know and have links to, into a few pages on my site, then I can copy/paste it (the info, not site) as responses. Then, I ask Imeo to make me an automated smart GG to post it *for* me :D And even then, there is no 'one e-cig for everyone,' just 'probability of liking, really.'

+1000. Yep. Some things *are* really tough- 3.7v vs 5v vs 6v versus whatever Imeo dreamed last night ( :D ), while other stuff = open your eyes, read a few stickies, google the site.

Oh, for those that don't know this, this works better than forum searches. Go to google or type in google toolbar:

It doesn't help that we are really, still learning ourselves, but you're right, there is a line at which someone shows they are unable or unwilling to do *anything* for themselves, and someone who has tried, but is confused, needs help, etc. I used to teach, and while I got great evals, I can tell you the first group ('spoonfeed me, don't teach me how to do for myself, I refuse to think on my ow') are simply a personality type I do *not* get along with well, and it irks me online as well.

Then you'll get accused of copying/pasting just so you can up your post count.

I had spent considerable time in writing a very nice detailed "newbie" type letter to post and was copying/pasting it when a newbie asked for help.

Then I got accused of trying to up my post count with it.

Give me a break!!! You can't win for losing sometimes.

 Yes, you will. However, you realize a few things (I have admin-ed several forums, and seen much of the online BS, etc):
    1. There are people *far* worse than you. Go check the newbie threads. Then, grab some random 'common posters' and check their profile. Now, list the posts they've done. Not all, *some* are very helpful - Elendil, Kate, EDO, others...but others..hello, spamfest/crap poster.

    2. Who cares, really? I have a ton of posts. Hopefully signal to noise ratio is better than some, but it's worse than others. So what? if you help someone that has asked for help, but also post 'I like cheese' 37 times in random nonsense threads, are you now a bad person? leave the post counting to the 12 year olds...except now and then when it's entertaining to razz someone about it, of course! :D (Hi, Di! :D )

Oiy!! I hear you there wegster.

I used to teach college students. I had one incident where I had given the students a test and this one particular student aced it with flying colors.

The next day he had to do a rotation in the hospital ICU. My instructor there knew about the test I had just given the students, so she was asking this one particular student questions that were pertinent to the test he had just taken.

He could not answer one single question she asked him!!

When I asked the student about this and the fact that he had aced the test, he told me he had just memorized to pass the test and didn't know he was suppose to recall it at a later date.

The worse thing for me was to have A+ students in the didactic portion of the curriculum, but had no common sense in the clinical portion.

    AARRGGHH!!!

@mamu same here. Tutored all the way through while *I* was in college, got asked to teach straight out, awesome job. I miss it.

STILL don't miss 'those ones.' First time, I literally spent an entire *day* (one of the 4 jobs at time was keeping systems running, but not help desk...but had spare time) trying to teach a pair of guys how to *understand* what they were doing, so they could 'get it' and 'help themselves.' Even stayed past my paid time, wanted to make sure they got as much as they could.

Happened to mention one of their names a few days later to an instructor, and after all the logic, code, diagrams etc we'd gone through....they both copied the same *broken* project to hand in, versus spending another *hour* or two to complete what we'd done 'pushing them to do it themselves.'

Even worse if medical students or where screwups could hurt someone. I also taught firefighting for a bit, in military, and was on all the rescue teams. There were some that would not show up for real emergencies. Not quite the same, but I have no mercy where other people's well-being is involved, and is being jeopardized by someone lazy, not thinking, etc.

How many of them did you umm...hurt? :(

Thanks Robert, the auto system will work much better than the video, it was only a prototype. In reality the smoke will be huge all the time.

    Thanks again for your comments:)
