Oh, and before I forget, rather than using towels, try wrapping the areas you're going to contact with pliers with rubber bands. Preferably, you could find pliers big enough that don't have teeth on the inside, but the rubber bands should even them out and provide good grip so you can turn without squeezing as hard.

The problem has baffled me. I have 4 GGTS's and have been using GGTS for about 3 years now so I'm pretty familiar with how to use them - but not a guru for sure. I've never had this happen before and so far it's happened twice and on the same GGTS which makes me suspect a thread problem. But the threads appear to be fine. It seizes right where Ody screws into GGTS at the top cap but doesn't do it all the time??? Only other thing I suspect is that I recently purchased the new GGTS Adapter which makes it not necessary to use 510 to 901, 901 to 510 adapters or the Ody GGTS base and I wonder if somehow the GGTS Adapter could be causing it so seize up? And when it seizes everything from the GGTS Connector to the Ody base is all bound together in one piece and it takes penetrating oil and 2 pairs of channel locks to get them apart. Even using a soft cloth under the channel locks my GGTS Connector, Control Ring, Collector tank and Ody base is getting all scratched up. But that's the only way I could get them apart.

Ok 2 things
1 is if a new collector tank with the slot instead of the 4 holes? If so there is a known issue with the ody ggts base not threading on correctly. I wonder if yours is threading on but sometimes getting bound when unthreading. If this is the case I would contact Bruce and maybe Imeo about a replacement.
2 As for the adapter are you using the adapter and the ody 510 base? I am a little confused because I thought you were using the ggts native base but if so you would have no need for the gg adapter so not sure why you have that on at the same time? Sorry just a little confused here.

Yes it is one of the new collector tanks with the slot instead of the 4 holes. I wasn't aware there was a problem with them but this particular GGTS has been a problem when using Ody since I first got it. Ody also leaks much more on this GGTS than my other older ones. Here is the adapter I've been using when I have the problem GGTS Adapter. But I'm not sure if the adapter is causing the problem, just speculating. Could be something entirely different. I also have the Ody GGTS Base New Odysseus Base-GGTS and have not had problems with it seizing up. The adapter and the Ody GGTS Base are not used together. Supposedly the Ody with it's 510 setup can be used on GGTS since the adapter raises the connector to the top of the collection tank lid. But I think I'm going back to the Ody GGTS Base since I had no problems using it. I hope I answered your questions and I do appreciate your assistance. Smitty

Hmm I find that very odd. That adapter doesn't have the notches in it that are what I would think would be the only thing that could bing up. Unless as you said earlier when you put your cap on you are over torqueing it to where it just becomes very difficult to get off I can't see where you would be binding up. I would guess you could try to scrub out the threads with a small brush in case there are tiny metal shavings in the threads you can't see that are causing the problem.

Honestly though I tighten and loosen most of my gg connections on a regular basis at least once a week or so. I have had many parts get stuck together and hate putting pliers to my gg's so I regularly fiddle. This is much worse with parts that come in contact with juice. I use to regularly get my collector tank stuck to my connector cap because I never pulled them appart and I still get windows sticking and such.

After more looking I'm still not positive what the problem is. I can feel roughness on the top and bottom inside threads of the GGTS collector tank when I run my finger along the threads but I don't see any burrs. There are a couple of small scratches running across the threads. I've quit using the new adapter and went back to the Ody GGTS base and am not having problems so far. When using Ody GGTS base the top cap which screws into the top inside threads of the GGTS collector tank is not used but when using the new adapter the top cap is used. I'm thinking the top cap is binding inside the top of the collector tank and the connector is also binding inside the bottom of the collector tank. Would be very coincidental to bind in both places at the same time but that seems to be what's happening. Anyhow I thought about contacting either Bruce or Imeo about a replacement but I'll just keep it and try to figure it out and fix it. I think I can buff out the scratches once I figure out what's causing the problem. Fortunately I have several GGTS's and Ody's so at least I ain't dead in the water. And if they bind up again I'll for sure use erich's suggestion about protecting the SS by using rubber bands. Thanks everybody!!!
