Just finished this guy. Took two weeks of etching the brass and wirebrushing the body, degreasing, epoxy, veneer steaming and wet molding. The next week was 10 coats of my home made gunstock oil/varnish/spirits juice, each dry coat buffed with 0000 wool. Top coat is Johnson's Wax. The veneer is zebra ebony, the varnish mixture is what beretta uses in their fine shotguns. I've been perfecting this finish for 20 years. It dries rock hard

Thanks everybody. I enjoyed making it. I love nice wood but appreciate the functionality of a mechanical tube mod. The aluminum GGTB is perfect for stealth 7.4v with the thin 16340's. I will put an Odysseus on this shortly then possibly use with a 3.7v 17 mm battery. I'll try to take some better pics in the morning with brighter light. The grain is reddish in the sunlght.

I'm interested in testing the robustness of the epoxy and veneer. It should hold up well and it feels great in the hand. Wood is always warm to the touch

Torq, what did you do today? The most beautiful GGTB I have even seen! Wonderful work my good friend, just wonderful:):)

Thanks Imeo but you are the master machininst that designed this machine in the first place.

I think the thing would look beautiful with brass caps though. With an extra 5mm on diameter on the caps, i could wrap more veneer, giving it some extra girth and strength.

What's interesting is that the wood is soaked in epoxy so it becomes one solid mass when hardened. The outer layer of epoxy is then sanded so that the varnish/oil can penetrate. Its a slow process. Each coat is applied with one finger, one drop of oil at a time, three drops to a full coat of the GGTB with 24 hours drying time between the 10 coats.

Wow that looks fantastic!! Nice little GGTB collection you have going there. I guess after selling the grip you needed more wood? LOL
Never sold the Grip Fright, got sellers remorse and came to my senses. I like the veneer though, it gives me the best of both worlds. The Grip is back on my conference table

This is for a Pre war German spring piston airgun.

It was made to win money in Sheutzen Halls drinking beer and doing this, offhand, iron sights at 10m.

That is beautiful torque. I find the technique fascinating also. Lots of work and time involved.

Now, if you and Capt Louiseville could get together with wood projects you could share info and projects. Check out his post here, I think it is #1237:

I had seen that picture and I think it's outstanding work. I'm going to look into making a stand like that. Thanks for reminding me of it
