hi, first thanks to all of you guys (aal, Bish, Capt, Dspin...) that converted me to the sonic cleaner method. I see 3 things why you clean: increase conductivity, esthetic, hygiene. We all have longevity in mind I believe. Everybody has its own needs and tolerance on these 3 points. But what I know that all of you are definetly cleaning and cleaning and cleaning :)

Capt did you try without vinegar? Is vinegar really needed?

Concerning the hygiene, when I use Pene V2 I put "the mouthpiece air controler" in it every day. It is clean and the O-rings stick well to the mouthpiece...I did not try the new mouthpiece yet...but I like the ritual with the original one.

any additional advice for making GGs so old as possible are welcome :)

PS: by old I mean going as close to eternity as possible for GG devices..

Blue I have tried without vinegar and it's not as effective however it still works.

As far as the longevity of the GG's I can assure you that if you take care of them they'll outlast you and I together. A friend drove over his GGTS with a pick up by mistake 3 years ago and if you see that GG today you'll think it was brand new.

Ok... I agree about the pliers but If you use them carefully and always covered with surgical gloves, We can tight even the button on the tube and not making any scars!
And I'm also using a a soft toothbrush with toothpaste for over a year too, with no unpleasant effects on any ss or brass GG's.

Will the ultrasonic cleaner help with the fast tarnishing of the new brass? Or does that actually require polishing to remove the tarnish?

just to make things clear,
and answer the question you asked:

new brass don't tarnish faster, it's tarnish different! ( I have both )

while old brass retain close to it's color when tarnish
new brass change color to bonze like dark brown,

you may notice that new brass tarnish is very common in sculptures

when both clean old brass is more yellowish like gold,
but, it's not gold just brass.

ultrasonic bath if done right does help with little parts and springs better then anything else,
also it make polishing much more fast/easy and affective.

Some of us just like the tarnish. Heck I don't even mine scratches on many metallic devices; gives it a more rugged look. I've seen a scratched up iPhone 5 that looked amazing to me.

The only reason I have to clean them is to reduce the voltage drop and of course remove the dirt.

little tarnish on new brass compliment it better!
it is light color compare to old brass.

also I keep my mods spotless most of the time
I don't afraid that they get scrach from use.

that may be Stelio but I use a large magnifying glass to inspect all my GG's and there dare not be marks on them. Capt Steve is the same - we are OCD over the finish.

Afterall, a brush is a brush and one would never touch my GG finish, let alone brass which shows every little mark.

Question, how do you vape without scratching them? I mean i feel my hands add to the scratches but I dunno how!!

Mine dont, improper polishing will though. I polish mine with very thin fine micro fiber cloths followed by Leica lens paper for final wipe. Though I am running out of that particular paper and will probably never be able to get any again.

Mine go into a felt lined Pen pouch, then into a leather cigar case to carry around. When home they are in wood stands w/felt bottom.

Ask Capt Steve what 1951 looked like when he got it. I described to him a tiny mark that I thought necessary - he laughed at it because he needed to try and find it to see it.

#20 has some marks on it as it was dropped by a fool that was handling it.

The JGG proto has a couple marks as I myself dropped that one.

Hey to each his own, more power to you. I'm personally not condemning anyone who cleans his mods the way Bish does, I'm just warning new users that a very common issue has been scratching engraved tubes while attempting to unscrew buttons using pliers. We've seen this time and time again.
I gave users an alternative method of cleaning which is 100% safe against scratching. If you prefer to use a toothbrush and scrub away please be my guest
