Okay, my step dad is a long time smoker and in his late 60s. I'm wanting to get him a starter kit as a Christmas gift and see if I can get him to take up vaping. Now, just to be clear, I know next to nothing about e-cigs in general, though I have been doing some research. My brother recommended me to get the BLU starter kit simply due to the price. For about 50 bucks you get about as much as other brands charge 100 for. After a bit of research, this seems to be pretty accurate from what I can tell but from what I've read, the quality isn't quite as good as some of the other high dollar brands and I really want this to make a really good first impression to he'll seriously consider dropping analogs completely. Also, I didn't see BLU listed under suppliers in these forums and that actually has me a little more concerned than anything else. Also, I have no idea what type of battery or anything BLU is and couldn't find the info on their website. From what I've read here, I'm wanting to get a KR8081D (I think that's right, going from memory here) due to the simplicity. No clue if BLU is KR8 or not. However, if other more experienced people have better suggestions, I'm all ears. Main things I'm looking for. Quality, Simplicity (this is a big one. I want the e-cig to be as hassle free as a regular cigarette as possible) and Price (Not as big a deal. I'm willing to spend 100+ bucks on a good starter kit as long as I know I'm getting my money's worth)

I'm new so take my opinion for what it's worth! Got a mall type starter kit that I would compare to a blu after looking into it and was not happy with it! The same week got the joye 510 for $40 bucks and juice to refill the cartridges with 30 ml for $10 bucks and works way better with way less hassle! Only complaint would be battery time but for $10 more could pick up an extra battery! Came with 2 atomizers and 2 Manual batteries which matters as I shorted out an auto battery on the cheaper kit 3 days in! It seems to be a good model to start with and reasonably priced! Then if he sees he likes it he could start looking into and reading reviews into the more top of the line models! I will probably switch to the Ego kit eventually but this one has got me and wifey smoke free so i'm good to go for now!

I would recommend that you look into Smoketip.com, they offer the 2 piece KR808 model. They are a bit more expensive than other suppliers but they offer a lifetime warranty on their batteries, your dad wouldn't have to lay out a penny if a battery went south on him and their customer service couldn't be nicer. An 808 and cartomizers is probably the most hassle-free model i've ever used. If you use the coupon code TENOFF between now and december 18th you can save $10 off on a kit at Smoketip. you said your dad is in his late 60s, not to be ageist but frankly i think anything other than an 808 would be too complicated to use, i'm 32 and 3 piece models are complicated and a hassle even for me.

I have no affiliation with the company, i'm just a very satisfied customer.

I am giving three kits for xmas this year and am using the same path that I used. Ego is just too big and un cig like for some die hard smokers (like I was). I needed an analogue sized pv to start. Now I use the chuck and love it, but if that was my first pv I would still be a smoker.

So... You can't go wrong with a 510 or kr808d-1. I recommend the 510, but have little experience with the kr8. Just seems to me that the kr8 is kind of fading away as places that used to sell them no longer do. I would (and have many times) go here:

Joye 510 NO BOX

$35.00 and $5 shipping and it will be at your door in three days max.

Good luck

I'm getting my dad and grandma KR808 kits for X-mas. I absolutely love mine and the two-piece design is as easy as it gets. I use the Vapor King from vapor4life.com, and it's a very good quality product with excellent costumer service. Also, Cigeasy.com has a nice cheap 2 battery starter kit that includes 5 cartos and a 10ml bottle of liquid for $40.
