Gifting Ecigs

Thought my recent experience might be of interest. I was told about 2 weeks ago that my niece needed to have a double mastectomy. She is a very heavy smoker. Her sister who only smoked occasionally had a mastectomy a couple of years back.

Our family got together for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I bought them each 2 ecig Starter kits as early Xmas gifts. They were both lukewarm about my gifts.

I believe I will inherit back the 4 kits although their mother might keep one. I have enough life experience to have anticipated that they might not be as excited about ecigs as we are, otherwise, I would have been broken-hearted.

I am sorry to hear that your niece needs a double mastectomy, that's terrible. I hope that she will be okay.

Even if you wind up getting four kits back from them, I say good for you for making the effort. You have provided them with the tools to help free themselves from analogs. It is up to them to decide whether or not they want to use them.

Sorry to hear that your niece has had such serious health problems Cinders. Frazzled is right, all you can do is share what you've discovered, it's up to others to accept and use it.

I bought kits for my sister, nephew and a friend. Esmoking is such a good thing in my opinion all smokers should try it. My nephew and sister have been trying to quit but I honestly don't think ecigs are easy enough for them yet. It's ok for us because we are enthusiasts but for someone looking for a quick, easy solution it's not going to be found with the current generation of ecigs.

Got my Brother a set for Xmas.
I did a test over thanksgiving, to see if he would at least try mine and see his reaction.
He had no intrest in it at all. Hes not much of a gadget guy.
SO, i seem to have more spare parts now.

Sorry to hear about your niece. I do hope that if you are related to her maternally, you are taking care of yourself as well! As breast cancer runs in families... especially through the maternal bloodline (My maternal grandmother and my mother's sister have both had double mastectomies and my mother doesn't check... who knows why). Either way... good energy to your family!

Nerdy, sorry to hear about your niece. Here's wishing her a speedy recovery.

Don't be too downhearted though about your eCig gifts, as much as I love my new wee gadget, I wouldn't have appreciated it if, say, my Mum (ex smoker of 20 odd years) had bought me it as a 'give up smoking' device. Actually, it would've probably put me off it straight away.

As you know, us smokers are a stubborn breed, we don't like non/reformed smokers telling us how easy it is to give up the white cancer sticks, and we tend to rebel against them.

Since I found these by myself and I love the them, so much so that I'd love an eCig as a gift, at least I know it was my decision to eCig in the first place.

I hope that makes sense, I don't usually...

My sister loved the old Health supermini I gave her at first. Then after a several days she changed her mind saying, "It just makes me want to smoke more!"

I was at a Christmas party the other night, e-smoking away and explaining the gizmo. One couple wanted to gift two smoking daughters with one for Christmas. Like some of you, I'm not sure a smoker will welcome such an intrusion, but I recommended only the Janty Mini Fogger (a starter/test device) and continue to recommend against any e-smoking device for my retail tobacco chain until full disposables are marketed. This stuff we now slave over is way too much trouble. And I, for one, cannot see present devices ever replacing real tobacco for an addicted smoker lacking a massive infusion of want-to-quit willpower.

Your thought was kind. Reality is rough. This doesn't replicate cigarette smoking. Sorry.

yeah...i managed to convert my flatmate to esmoking...he was very enthused for a few months...

now hes back smoking again...too much hassle for him...couldnt be bothered with it full time...because when it came to the crunch he never really wanted to give up enough...

he esmokes in the house for my benefit rather than lighting up...which is decent of him...but hes tried the best of whats currently available to esmokers in hardware and liquid,and it wasnt good enough to convert him...

im sure this scenario has been played out hundreds if not thousands of times given esmokings current state of play...roll on the new generation stuff...

I am sorry to hear about your niece, Nerdy Cinderella. That is really tough. I hope she recovers.

Even though I did not give my father an e-cig, in some ways, mine may still help him reduce his smoking, indirectly. He lives in Italy and, like me before, smokes about a pack a day. Consider that my mother is terminally ill with cancer, and so this is a very stressful time for us all, but especially for him. I had told him about my e-cig and my going from 22 to 2 cigarettes a day, but I did not see him as being willing to put up with these devices, especially right now, as they require a lot of organization and almost constitute a hobby, rather than a vice (they are a bit like one of those Japanese gizmos that you had to "feed" and do other things to at specified intervals, otherwise it would "die"). Not to mention that, in Italy, customs can be quite iffy, the mail even more so, and I am not sure that there is a local online supplier yet (although Janty has a website here - but it did not sell much when I last checked)

However, he was impressed by my progress and, as I was coming to Italy to spend time with my mother, he asked me to buy him a bunch of nicotine patches, as in Italy they cost more than twice as much as in the US (if you buy off-brand). So I did get him quite a supply, and he has now started using them to try to go down to about 4 a day or so. It's too early to tell, but the e-cig may lead by "example" in this case....

on the subject of gifting...well, i haven't gifted but i'm rather persuasive. haha. the few friends I've shown my 901 have seemed intrigued and one has even vowed to purchase one come payday. most of my friends don't want to quit and neither did I, so preaching about health never really got through to them or me. my thought was always "we all die, whether it be painful and early or whathaveyou." I've since changed my tune - obviously. but my biggest argument to get them to make the switch is the one thing that keeps me from going back to analogs. I simply tell my friends "you smell like .... and I don't." then they make that silly scrunched up face because clearly they can't tell they smell like ..... my number one reason for switching to ecigs was and remains so that i wouldn't smell and taste like an ashtray anymore. the better breathing, healthier skin, brighter smile, etc. are just added bonuses.

Well, here's a good 'un - I've bought a DSE103 (very lucky, jaw-droppingly cheap on eBay - seller mis-spelled cigarette!) as a gift for a friend in Australia who doesn't smoke any more. It'll be a New Year gift now, too late to get it there for Xmas.

She's now a NON-smoker since a mouth cancer scare earlier in the year, but when we were chatting on Skype recently she confided that it isn't the nicotine she misses so much now as the puffing and the taste. She always liked and used vanilla and fruit flavoured tobaccos. She likes gadgets too.

Her husband is still a smoker but if he likes the e-cig too (with nicotine, probably) I'm sure they can come to an arrangement with his'n'hers cartridges. I'll send both kinds. Couldn't hurt to protect her from her husband's second-hand smoke too!

I know this is a kind of lightweight post but I'd still like to add my positive thoughts to Cat and Cinderella's relatives as well as anyone else going through this kind of experience.

Well, after some miscommunication betw my sister and I, there seems to be some interest in the e-cigs I gifted to my 2 nieces and they decided to keep them. I can only keep my fingers crossed at this time.

CIndrella: I hope your nieces end up liking the e-cigs. It does require a lot more work than analogs, but it may be worthwhile....

I've just talked with my nephew on the phone and am very pleased now that I got him an ecig. He said he's gone down from around twenty cigs a day to about ten and is enjoying using the ecig.

His christmas present is going to be a sample pack of juice, an atomiser and spare battery. That's one less to worry about
