So I posted a while ago about making non-tobacco extracts and couldn't find alot of information. I decided to proceed with what little information I had and surprise, suprise, surprise....it worked!

Here's what I did:

1/2 cup grated frozen ginger
1 cup everclear

* Put in a mason jar and let sit for 5-ish days.
* Strain out ginger with cloth
* Strain one more time with a coffee filter (I got alot of sludge)

* Put mason jar in big pot with around 2 inches of water
* Heat double boiler method. Water not quite simmering
* Don't forget to add more water (in the pot) when it starts to get low
* Cook for 2-ish hours until everclear is 1/4 original volume
* Let Cool

* Strain with coffee filter (There was noticable sludge at the bottom)
* Made around 40ml of extract

I mixed it up at 15% and it was lovely! Smooth, and sweet, and full of flavor. I have not put it in the vivi to see if it gunks up the coils, but it was lovely in the dripping atty.

I did the exact same process with the black raspberries, but I haven't mixed it by itself yet. I did drop a few drops into a bluberry mix I have in my vivi nova and I could definately taste it.

UPDATE: The ginger is a smashing success. At 15% it is sweet, mild, spicy, and delicious! I have two tanks through the vivi nova with cotton wicking and no gunk on the coils. WIN.

The blackberry is not so great. I mixed it at 10% and it tastes like burnt alcohol. I tossed 6 drops in at the end of a vivi tank a few days ago and I could definately taste it, so I will try it at 20% and report back.

Mango and blueberry just finished straining. So when I get some more bottles to mix in I'll report back.

Update: The black raspberry extract is coming around!

Recipe:
60mg 50/50 nic juice: 2 ml
PG (40%): .68ml
VG (60%): 1.68ml
Homemade black raspberry extract: 1 ml (20%)
sour: .15ml (3%)

Definitely more of a cooked, pie filling kind of taste. It's juicy, and mild, with a slight steaminess--which I assume comes from the alcohol content. Although not much of a throat hit---weird.

Through one vivi tank with cotton and no gunked coils yet...we shall see.

I can vape it and taste it sooooo WIN!

Update: So the black raspberry has a cooked taste to it that I don't care for. Used it at 20% and then added a few drops of sour and EM. That made it vapeable at least.

The mango hardly has any flavor at all. Again added some sour and EM, but it doesn't really taste like much.

Gonna try cold PG extraction next round and see how it goes!

I have done fruit extractions into alcohol, pg, and vg. Natural fruits contain too many sugars and will taste off/burnt, not to mention kill your atties very quickly.

The only way to do fruits successfully is thru distillation. I dont have the equipment or Id have done it by now. Anything containing alot of natural sugars doesnt extract the way other things like roots, herbs, teas, coffee, etc. I have had zero success with fruit extractions for the exact reasons you are experiencing. Its the sugars.

Ive done lemons, mangos, peaches, raspberries and straberries to no avail. Ive tried using the pulp, the rinds/skins, both together and seprately with very good filtration procedures. All have led me to believe distilling is the only way to get the sugars out.
