We're building a box mod! Hubs is home this month, and I showed him the forums (esp the modders bit) he loves to fiddle with things and is SURE that between us we can build a box mod. I just need to find a battery supplier ASAP.
He also want's to make a flashlight (or simular) mod. But we're starting with the box.

After reading alot of post here, many say they were about to give up on esmoking until they got or built a mod. But, the manufactured ones are so expensive. So I have been researching the build your own mod.

The nicostick looks simple enough that anyone could make it (the hardest part is drilling the hole and soldering), and you could make them "prettier." My father loves to tinker and make things and probably has at least half the parts already, so I figured it would be a good project that he would enjoy and allow him to teach me basic soldering and electronics. Then from there maybe I can find something cool or different with a good battery pack, and give him the challenge of seeing if he can make it into a mod.

I did a search of batteries, Madvapes (they also sell the connectors) is located in the US and very reasonable. You can do a search and find some cheaper wholesalers, but make sure they are protected batteries and realize most suppliers are in China and factor in shipping cost and shipping time.

Thank you for the welcome! I was considering tickling it out of Belle...but found a better method. *squee*

Basic nicostick-esque boxmod, the red button lights when it's on(I just fixed it -s o it's not in the photos) the paint is light green and yellow all over coated with glitter and the cheesy cute vine work glows in the dark green.

Aw, MacArthur it's SO PURDY :)

I think if you have a 510 a mod will make a big difference for you because as I have referenced before Scottbee did a test that showed the 510 (even the Ego/Tornado) was coming in around 3-3.1v whereas the VaporKing was a true 3.7v which helped explain why my Protege and Chameleon weren't doing much for me so I sold them.

I still have my Prodigy v2 and I love it 5v REALLY is the sweet spot and I've been lucky in that I haven't had the switch problems others have. Fires 98% of the time.

When I sold my Protege and Chameleon I told myself I would never buy another 3.7 mod because the hit wasn't any better than what I was getting off of my V4L batts but once I found out about the 18650 battery and it's super long life I changed my mind. I didn't really like the look of the Chucks and I'm impatient so I bought a GGTS from VaporKings (#193) - had it in 2 days and I am in LOVE  It kicks almost like a 5v and with High Drain 18650s I got from Drew @ Nhaler I didn't notice any drop off for over 20 hours!!!!! I know the batt would've kept going but I just swaped it out.

I almost didn't buy the GG because I find the creator to be a bit arrogant but now that I have the darn thing he can be as arrogant as he wants as far as I'm concerned because it's THAT GOOD and I'm hoping that sometimes his sentiments just get "lost in translation"

Yes, the GG is a bit bulky but I don't think it's as big as it looks in the photos online. I have on order a Precise from Super T for times I need to a bit more femme. ;) Yes, it takes 10440 which only have a battery life of 1.5-2 hours but the Precise is a work of art IMO and the 10440 batts are so small and lightweight carrying a few extra around is nothing to me.

I REALLY don't like the light up LEDs on the ends of many of the stock batts - it just looks cheesy to me.

I am a firm believer in mods..due to the batts being availible on-line or in some stores. But after wasting money on a the VK1, nicosticks are just fine by me! I (thank goodness) don't need a 5 volt..being a wimp.
With my 901 to 901 extender/adapter that has a hole in it I can use my cartos on it. (They need an air supply).
My VK is wonderful for beauty and function, but backups are a must in case of FDA problems.
I am so glad I am finally past the "next big thing" stage!:)

Mac that is a great picture of you! Love it! The Nico is so pretty..what kind of paint did you use?

Nice mod Mac. I have to agree with Remie the tornado is great, I can stick one of the new 510 cartomizers on it and be set for all day. The magnum atties are also good on it but it goes through juice really fast so I usually use the magnum to drip when I am making juices. I really like the 10 hours I get out of the tornado. Micki

Yanks21: Thanks! I have used and do own a 510, I just prefer the cartomisers for flavor and time between fills. I do eventually plan on trying a 510 mod, but for now my nicostick mod is AMAZING.
MK: Fabric paint :) The kind you can get in craft stores. My mom always called it "puffy" paint because when we used it for shirt decoration it "puffed" above the fabric.
I'm still doing mod research, however there was something amazingly fulfilling about DIYing.
