Give me a Crash Course - Vaping For Dummies?

Hey all!
I am an absolute newbie & am literally just waiting on my device to show up. I went for a cheap (like $25) X6 startup kit that I found online, so you know what i'll be working with once it shows up. I also ordered an extra clearomizer.

The prob. is the only thing I really know so far is that you push the button to make the vapor come out...

I was hoping some of the more experienced - 'big kids' if you will - could help a little... well... a lot? Imagine you're trying to teach a 4 year old about this, that's how little I know (other than the use of smaller words of course.)

Thanks in advance for your help and patience guys!!
Ari

Well, first off, did the kit come with liquid or did you purchase some to go with it? From what I remember the X6 kits do come with clearomizers to hold and vaporize the juice, but I'd bet dollars to donuts they're CE4s, which, if you ask my opinion, are fairly crappy. There's a whole world of things out there that are loads better, I'd have to look the X6 battery up to confirm but I'm guessing it's Ego/510 thread, or possibly Ego/808. Those are just two types of connection that determine the types of delivery system you can install, btw. 510/Ego is pretty common, 808 is seen more on cigalikes that take cartos, but I think there are clearos for it now too.

Its the 510 and it didn't come with liquid, I got a couple small bottles from another site.
X8 atomizer and X6 battery type - if thats gives a better picture at all...

Hmm, a carto-tank. I may have to get one of those myself, looks pretty nice. I'd recommend thinner juices though, 70/30 PG/VG tops, at least to start with. High-VG liquid can cause trouble with carto-tanks from what I hear, but of course I have yet to use one personally so I don't want to say that as if it's gospel. You'll need to fill it and 'prime' the carto as well, I've seen methods ranging from filling the carto like a normal carto, or filling the tank and taking dry hits without voltage applied to suck juice into the filler material, can't say which is better..just as long as the filler is saturated so it doesn't burn.

Welcome to ecf and the first steps to becoming an ex-smoker and a brand new vaper. The sub forum to this one does have some useful information New Members Information

There is also this thread in that sub-forum. This technique can be considered more as a guide than a rule and not all e-cigs and toppers work the exact same way http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-information/337019-inhalation-technique-ecig-vs-cigarette.html

Here is a video on carto tanks. It covers just about everything from beginning to end
A PBusardo Review & Tutorial - QT-1 (not really a) carto punch and Working with carto tanks - YouTube

Here is a guide to carto tank filling by one of our members, the Ocelot
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/the-ocelot/3998-ocelot-method-carto-filling-k-upside-down-condom.html

With a carto tank there are at 2 parts, the cartomizer and the tank. You will need more cartomizers, I prefer boge brand, but there are many kinds on the market. With boge they have punched meaning it already has laser cut holes in it and unpunched, you put the holes in yourself with a carto punch or saddle valve. They also have boge f15, f16 etc these are flanged at the bottom to better work with smoktech dct tanks, you do not need the flanges with your tank. The cartomizer's life span can vary quite a bit, a few days up to several weeks. Every once in a while you do get a poorly made one and it quits after a couple hours. The video and guide should cover just about everything else.

This community has found that backups are always needed, and a backup for your backup and a backup for that. You don't want to be fighting a nicotine craving and have an uncharged e-cig. Best of luck to you :)

I vape 50/50, 65VG/35PG, and whatever the hell Alice in Vapeland makes in the various liquids. I use 2-hole cartomizers for the 50/50 liquid, but I need 3-hole pre-punched cartomizers for the other liquid. I prefer to just get pre-punched since I haven't had problems with the two different kinds after troubleshooting a bit. Punching your own cartomizers require a great deal of attention, and even then, they still can damage the O-rings.

Read this- http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-5-baditudes-cartomizer-tank-setup-guide.html

Learn ohm's law.

Try as many different liquids as you can. Don't just settle for a flavor. There's so many out there, you can be as picky as you want. Also, regardless that I love carto-tanks, try different delivery methods, but I'd try 1.5-2 Ohm cartomizers with the battery you have.

It's a pretty sick and different starter kit for a newb though. "Great Job!"

That looks like a decent choice for stepping into the world of vape. Should get you there. Once you have it set up and ready to vape, push the button for 2-3 seconds before you start to vape. This allows time for the coil to heat up and deliver ample warm vape. If you vape immediately it will be cool and thin vapor.

My question is, did you order this from Fast Tech? And has it left China yet? There have been issues lately with orders from china, and the wait can be frustrating!.

I'll just pitch in to say I've got a couple of those X6 batteries and X8 carto tanks from fasttech and they work very well. I did not use the included cartomizer (some negative reviews about that cartomizer so I didn't want to waste time or juice on it). I've used prepunched Boge low res cartomizers as well as Kanger low res horizontal coil cartos that I slotted myself, with no problems in either case. The X8 tank takes standard sized cartomizers (not XL) with no flange (the bottom screw on the X8 is a set screw to lock the cartomizer).

Just a side note: the one you linked to has a European plug style wall charger instead of a standard US plug wall charger -- just in case you overlooked that part.

At any rate, a very good kit to begin with (though a second battery to use when one is charging is advisable, and FT does offer the battery by itself in black).

cheers,
andrew

Yes and yes. I ended up having to go the usps site and request that they look for it because it stopped at some point in between. luckily they had it sent to me within a week after i emailed them, but i waited forever before hand. super irritating..

HEY!!! here is my 3 stage process that i have put 3 of my friends through. all 3 have been completely satisfied!

stage 1: intro to vaping
ego c twist with charger
protank II

.....................................................................................

step 2optionA: RBA building (i suggest this step instead of option B for $ reasons because normally once you go rba, you never go back)

get an entry level mech like a k100, (they have tons on ebay)
get 2 batteries and a charger (i suggest 18500 or 18650 AW IMR)
buy an entry level rba like an igo-w with wide airholes (tons on ebay)
buy 100ft 30ga kanthol
buy 100% pure organic cotton balls.

pros:
-just kanthol and cotton will last you years and years, no more buying cartos and clearo heads!!!
-the flavor is better and fuller than any other type of vaping if you build the coil(s) the way you want like
-there is no limit to the clouds.. more airflow.. lower resistance.. more coils all give you more clouds..
-if you dont like clouds, just adjust your build the way you want
-its a fun and personalized way to vape
-coils last a LONG time, only thing you reall need to replace is the cotton every 3 days.. and this is easy and almost free.
-its mechanical! so there is no cercuit board.. its almost natural. hits hard fast, nothing holding it back.

cons:
-it takes about 2 hours of how-to video watching and 3 coil builds to get it down
-you dont get a light up screen or anything on your mod.
-if you build a coild with ohms lower than 0.3.. its could possibly be dangerous.
........................................................................................

......................................................................................................

stage 2optionA : VV mods (i dont suggest this option.. your just waisting money on a fancy ego twist.. weve all done it. performance upgrade isnt noticeable)

Vamo (there are cool new ones)
get 2 batteries and a charger ( suggest one 18650 and one 18350)
continue to use your protank II

......................................................................................................

dont use cartos.. i know a lot of people will dissagree with me.
i liked the taste of cartos for a while and a lot of peope rave about cartos (for no reason really)
but they are completely a hastle.. they flood all the time, they burn out fast, they have absolutely no airflow and they flood all the time. a few of my friends bought carto tanks and they gave up.. its just not ideal and the flavor of protanks are just way better. no competition.

........................................................................................................

stage 3:spending some money on something nice
now that you know what style of vaping suits you, spend some money on a cool mod or atomizer that you know youl use!!

hope this helped
