Hello people who are more experienced in the field of RDA's than me...

I've been using sub ohm tanks (0.30am) over RDA's because of the convenience of not having to drip constantly

However, I'm feeling it's time (after 2 years of vaping) to give coil building ago... But I've got a problem haha

I do know how to build a coil, but I want the safety side to be dumbed down for me to understand... But only certain aspects of it

Please could someone answer each question I have... In order haha

Firstly, I'm thinking of building a dual coil 0.2 ohm, but I want to know is that safe?

Secondly, how would I go about that? What gauge wire do I need?

Finally, when screwing the screws down on your posts to secure the coil, are there certain holes I have to put the coil in?

I'm looking at getting a 4 post RDA, so for a dual coil 0.2 ohm build, would one coil go through the first two holes, and the second coil through the other two holes? (on the other side)

Finally, I'm thinking of putting the RDA either on my Istick 50 watt, or my smok m80 watt... They both say they can go down to 0.2 ohms... But does that actually mean I can put a 0.2 ohm dual coil build on them? Or are there other safety aspects I need to take into consideration???

First off, while I use rda's most of the time I have need run a coil less than 1.2 ohm.

1: 0.2 ohm dual coil; is it safe;
Well the short answer would have to be no.
It's only as safe as you are knowledgeable.
But lower down you do mention a high wattage regulated mod, so that should provide a margin of safety.

2: what wire gauge to use;
Use the steam engine calculator

3: post holes:
many rda's have post holes; some don't; it varies from one rda to the next.

4: 4 post rda:
the most common of these have 4 posts in a straight line with the two positives on the inside; like the plume veil.
you put 1 coil through position 1+3, and the other coil through 2+4, so as to line up more symmetrically with the airholes.

If you have a mod that goes down to 0.2 ohms, I'd build a 0.3 ohm coil, because if you build a "0.2" ohm coil but your mod is seeing it as a "0.19999" ohm coil, your mod might have a problem.
So target your coil resistance so that it is clearly above the ohm limit of your mod. If you aim for 0.23 and you end up 10% off with 0.21 at least you're above the limit.

Thanks, you couldn't have been more helpful!

So, if I'm using a 50 or 80 watt mod, build a 0.3 (ish) ohm coil, I should be ok?

Both of my mods claim they have short circuit, open circuit, temperature and low voltage protection... So does that mean I should also be safe?

If the mod can accept 0.2 ohm, then it should certainly work with 0.3 ohm and you won't be on the borderline.
But if you are not used to building coils, I'd suggest you start at a higher ohm and work your way down.
The higher the wattage you vape at, the more likely things get hot; with my simple 15 watt setups, sometimes things get uncomfortably hot.

short circuit protections etc means you have some basic protections; how safe you are mainly depends on the type of battery and how you treat it.

Keeping in mind that whatever ohm your coil is, if you add a second, the ohms are cut in half.
If you put 2 x .4 ohm coils on an RDA, the resistance then becomes .2
If your mod can fire a minimum .2, putting 2 x .2 coils on an addy, your mod won't fire. For that, you will need a mech mod.
Also keep in mind that dripping also increases the potency of your nic strength and more coils will as well.
If you drip 12mg on dual coils, it will be as if you're dripping 24mg.
Vape safe!

I would also suggest building a higher ohm coil. The biggest reason people build as low as .2 is to get higher wattage from a mech mod. With a regulated mod like yours and you can build say around .8 and set your mod to the wattage you want. Everything else you've asked has been answered, so I'll leave that alone. But if I were you, I would aim for somewhere around .8ohms. With the right RDA, you'll be very happy in that range. Just play with your wattage until you find the type of vape you like.
