I'm glad that the social media part is still done using random.org, rather than automatically going to the top points holders. "A dollar and a dream" -- I'll still enter the SM part even though I'll usually just have the base entry points :)

And to further expand on the like button subject, I can see the behind the scenes action now...... Like my post! I really need this mod.

That would create more of a headache
right, so as I suspected, not a great idea. Best to keep it simple and focussed!

Yes, because even with with base entries, you still have a chance.

I've seen people say this and then turn around and make 100+ posts in other threads the same day. :)

Not all contests are fair. Like the main draw part. I have no chance in that as I don't have a huge social media following. I wouldn't take that away from those that do though. That's what the companies want.
Even this post is weighted by post count. Perhaps whomever posts the most in here will sway LTN on how to do it. I could post 200 times a day if I wanted , I'm just not social enough to be chatty nor enjoy it. I don't have other forms of social media to use either.

I'd split the contest... 70% for "normal" entries and 30% for "weighted posters" (being all posts over X amount), and people would still have a choice. Enter every day with a gazillion posts or say hello once a day and stay in the "normal" group.

Then maybe that should be done for the social media part too. I think I'd like a fairer shake there, too. Let's say 80% is picked from the ten pointers and 20% is picked from the high sharers. (I think that's the ratio in that)

    This wouldn't work well lol
I have found if it's something I won't use or my hubby, I don't enter the contest. I have pif with a few of my wins because of this.
I have enough mech mods to use a different one everyday for a month. I'll admit I'm new to regulated mods and have a limited to budget, so buying new mods at the moment isn't conducive to my pocketbook.
So if I see a contest for a regulated mod, I enter, with the same chances at winning as everyone else.
ECF is one big family, not everyone is gonna see eye to eye.

I have to say do it the way it works for the ECF crew. If the current system works keep it that way. Bottom line is your never going to make everyone happy.

Another point is you don't have to do the in house/post giveaways at all but you do. This is a win win for everyone. ECF exposure MFG exposure and People can get free stuff.

I personally am happy with the chance to win.

I think it would be fairer with that part as well. A good example is how many entries they throw out due to cheating with fake emails and such.

But that part has nothing to do with ECF, it's on the manufacturers end.

I don't think that's a good idea to make those that won one sit out the next. For one, it would exclude many forum members in the next contest since there are many prizes given out. And another, what if someone won a not as desirable prize in one contest but then the next competiton/prize is an awesome, must have set up. They'd feel really disadvantaged then. We have no way of knowing what prize each competition will have so nothing to go on in choosing the ones we enter.

So far, I think the weighted and single entry method is the best/most fair. What would there be to complain about then? Oh wait, someone will come up with something, lol.
ROFLMAO. That would be me marina2 :p lol I do like the idea of a split 1post/weighted. But the problem there would be what if you are a middle of the road type. Not a 1 post poster but not a heavy weighted poster either. Although also not sure how weighted is really determined. Have been top poster in 1 -didn't win. top 15-20 in many - no win. low poster - no win. but at same time I did win a few when i first started on ECF. My only problem with the 1 post thing is you have a lot that join ECF just for that 1 contest and 1 post. then when it is done they don't come back to ECF till they by chance see another on social media that connects to ECF here. I would Hope to have something that encourages people to stick around ECF, participate, chat, learn or whatever. Not just grab and run.

And alliances forming on other media coming here to like each others posts just for the win.

But in the 50/50 you are not excluded from either draw. You have a chance in both. It's just that half the draws are weighted and half aren't. What's wrong with that? As far as those that come with one post for the purpose of winning, they lose out in the end for not sticking around here and taking advantage of all this forum has to offer.

I agree with DC's original early post.

Half the prizes single entry (anyone who has posted to the time of drawing get exactly one entry).

Half the prizes weighted by post count, ideally clip at some moderately low level, say 5 or 10 posts per day. Enough to allow/promote some chit chat. Don't sweat the math too much on clipping, but do state what it is. If someone wants to post a lot they still can, just that they won't get more than 5 or 10 entries for each day in the draw period.

One win per member on the ECF segment of a contest. This has been the rule, just that it should continue to be stated.

CLARITY in stating the rules. They belong in OP, and you need to stick to them.

I've been fortunate in winning often late last year, been able to PIF, it works for me, and the gear does get circulated. I play when/as conditions permit, hopefully add at least a little value/humor from time to time. If a rule is added to forbid prior winners from winning again for X contests it will likely chase away some long term members and some newer-but-really-active members; it's ECF's choice, but I doubt that would have a particularly positive effect overall.

ECF staff do a super job on this, and the suppliers have been really generous.
I like this. give even chances to single entry but also allows for set number in Chatty/weighted area and still allows for those in between the 2. AWESOME IDEA

Ok because we have a giveaway running (and because I want to pick today's winners), I'm going to stick with the 50:50 rule on that.

I will clarify it in the first post and we'll review again before starting the next one - which I can assure you is something everyone is going to want a chance at winning!
