We don't live in an "Everyone Gets A Trophy World"! If we did, there would be no need for contests.
Actually, the world is becoming that. I hate it. Takes away any incentive to try. You should see in the schools here. There are no Ribbons on field day. Just a ribbon for all who participate. And... none of the kids even try to be the best.

Too much "expect" and not enough "respect" :)

Which competition thread are you talking about?.

The one that just ended last week.

That's because all the fun is in the participation. It's to be expected that those that have only one post haven't had as much fun as those that post more. I don't get your point. Is it that it's unfair that some don't have as much fun as others?

Point is that people enter the thread (and make their one post), realize that the whole thread is just a few people chatting and/or posting useless info, so they leave and don't come back.

I think the manufacturers want an active thread though. One that dies after each person makes their one post isn't an attractive incentive for these companies to give out 100 or so prizes.

But in the last contest, if each person that entered would have posted 40 times (3 times per day for 2 weeks), the total number of posts would have exceeded the number that it ended up with. Getting people to come back and post a few times per day should result in a thread that's MORE active.

I will say I am a fairly unlucky person & that is fine. I enter these contests because I think the threads are damn funny & know I don't have a snowballs chance (you know where) of winning
I was surprised I won in the Innokin contest. I could care less but I can see how some feel I have seen the same members win almost every contest since I joined but my question is as a supporting member how do we know we have been entered & if they go by post counts why bother. I am like a lot of others & work 10-12 hours a day so most days I can't sit at the computer. May get a lashing on this but what about doing it like radio contests you win you cant enter for so many days or so many contests

Everyone in the contest threads obviously belong to the forum, we are ALL team ECF, right? Maybe the total number of posts in the contest could be divided equally between the total of people that have posted in the thread and that number would be how many chances each person gets. The high posters would be GIVING the low posters extra chances, I'm sure they wouldn't mind at all.

People that don't bother or are frustrated with the contests might then be more interested and feel they have an equal chance? Fair and square?

This would still encourage posting, therefore exposure for the vendor, and ECF membership, but it would even it out for those that can't post as much, or don't have a lot to say, or are just shy, like me.

If you want to make these contests fair .... Forget about the post count altogether.

A member that enters a certain giveaway contest gets one chance to win ... This ECF member's name stays in the contest for a chance to win as long as the contest is still going on ... Once the member wins, his name is pulled out of the randomizer .... Simple.

Why should we give someone that posts a simple "Good Morning" and a simple "Good Evening" and makes frivolous other one-sentence posts 50 times a day a better chance of winning than some guy that has a real job and can't sit at his computer 24 hours a day making worthless one-liner posts or posting silly photos to the contest thread on a day-to-day basis.

It's the only fair way to run a giveaway contest in my opinion .... Everyone that enters has an EQUAL chance of winning.

There's been some great ideas here to balance out the wins...and I, for one, appreciate @low_tar_neil giving us a chance to voice our opinions without worrying about being bashed. This seems like its been productive!
    No problem, you're welcome!
