I have both the Slice and the Alien, and while I have nothing but positive things to say about the FSK board in the Slice, I’d recommend the Alien for the following reasons:
> Build quality – the Alien is miles better than the Slice. Solid, excellent screen, comfortable to hold and good 510. Granted, I have one of the first run Slices and, from what I’ve heard/read, there have been improvements in Slice build quality. Even so, the Alien to me is the hands-down build quality winner.
> Ease of use – if you’re willing to put in the time and fiddle with settings, the Slice FSK board can be an outstanding performer, and allow you to effectively run TC on any wire. But, if you’re mostly a wattage user and don’t want to fiddle with settings, the Smok interface is simple and easy to navigate.
If you do want to run in TC, the Smok handles all the common wires (Ni, Ti and SS) very well, and also offers TCR settings if you want to tweak. It will not, however, be able to run in TC mode with Kanthal or Nichrome as the Slice can.
> Run time – the dual 18650s will outlast the single 26650 of the Slice especially at higher wattages.
As you pointed out, the Slice does have the advantage re: warranty and support. If the Alien breaks and your vendor can't/won't help with an exchange, warranty support through Smok can be a frustrating process, as it usually is with many Chinese vendors.
If you’re interested in the FSK board I’d suggest the G2 over the Slice every time. It’s a dual 18650 box, same FSK chip (albeit with a high wattage limit). It’s not the prettiest mod out there (it’s basically just a box) but I like it much better than the Slice. Right now the G2 can be picked up for $45 with code G2FLASH at Vaporcube.
