Given the choice; Smok Alien or Hohm Slice?

I was all set to buy a smok Alien when I saw a mention of the Hohm Slice on this forum. Now I am confused as to which would be the better choice for me. My coils are generally in the .2-.3 range and I never go above 100 watts of power. The made in the USA and 500 day warranty factors pushes me towards the Slice. The generally positive reviews and small size of the powerful Alien nudges me in that direction.

What to do, what to do?

I have both the Slice and the Alien, and while I have nothing but positive things to say about the FSK board in the Slice, I’d recommend the Alien for the following reasons:

> Build quality – the Alien is miles better than the Slice. Solid, excellent screen, comfortable to hold and good 510. Granted, I have one of the first run Slices and, from what I’ve heard/read, there have been improvements in Slice build quality. Even so, the Alien to me is the hands-down build quality winner.

> Ease of use – if you’re willing to put in the time and fiddle with settings, the Slice FSK board can be an outstanding performer, and allow you to effectively run TC on any wire. But, if you’re mostly a wattage user and don’t want to fiddle with settings, the Smok interface is simple and easy to navigate.

If you do want to run in TC, the Smok handles all the common wires (Ni, Ti and SS) very well, and also offers TCR settings if you want to tweak. It will not, however, be able to run in TC mode with Kanthal or Nichrome as the Slice can.

> Run time – the dual 18650s will outlast the single 26650 of the Slice especially at higher wattages.

As you pointed out, the Slice does have the advantage re: warranty and support. If the Alien breaks and your vendor can't/won't help with an exchange, warranty support through Smok can be a frustrating process, as it usually is with many Chinese vendors.

If you’re interested in the FSK board I’d suggest the G2 over the Slice every time. It’s a dual 18650 box, same FSK chip (albeit with a high wattage limit). It’s not the prettiest mod out there (it’s basically just a box) but I like it much better than the Slice. Right now the G2 can be picked up for $45 with code G2FLASH at Vaporcube.

Great advice by @hazozita.

I have both as well, from a pure performance standpoint the Slice would be my pick. The Alien is no slouch though but with the latest update the SS316L performance has been a little lacking, trying to find the older firmware as it is said to work better.

I haven't had much problems with both my SE and LE Slice aside from the SE having the sticky button problem. Contacted hohmtech and they sent me 2 replacement buttons, only needed one and fixed the problem easily. The battery door on my SE is not as solid as the LE but neither is clicky or a problem like others have reported.

I love the form factor of the Alien but my fire button has become progressively more clicky over the 3 weeks I have had it. When I first got it the fire button was solid, now I can lightly tap the bottom and it will click. I know there is a fix but it doesn't bug me that much, just wish it was more solid.

If I was mainly a power user I would probably choose the Alien but it is really a close call for me. The FSK chip hits like a beast in TC mode though, feels like your in power mode and then some when setup right.

The G2 is my favorite mod, just added my 4th with the sale going on. It is not as take with you friendly though like the other 2. If I had to choose only one mod than the G2 would be an easy choice. Second choice would be the Slice as the FSK board is my favorite. I would not be sad to have the Alien though.

I went with the Alien. I was able to actually handle an Alien in a local B&M and I liked the size and the way it felt. I also liked the screen on the Alien. I am an old dude and the larger screen is a real plus for my aging eyes. It is in the mail as we speak. The B&M was more expensive and they only had the red version and I like the gun metal color.

Nice buy, the Alien is a great mod. I love the way you can pick it up with either the fire bar in the front or back, makes no difference, just squeeze and vape.

Damn, thats pretty cool...didn't know it had 2 fire buttons.

6steelstrings the Holm Wrecker G2 is also a 2 battery mod and clocks in at 48 dollars at Vaporcube right now with the coupon on the front page, thats another option if you want dual battery and the FSK board. I just grabbed it. But it is bigger then the smok and slice.

Actually no just one fire bar, they meant it is easy to fire with your palm or your fingers. I have had no issues with my alien but never upgraded from the 1.2.1 firmware.

Yeah, I just grab it any which way in my fist and squeeze to fire it. I love that about it.
