Sometimes you just gots to close your eyes and move along.
What some people do in the privacy of their own home with their own genesis tank is their own business.
:)

LOL, good one edyle. I have a Kraken clone here and keep looking at it and wonder if it's worth trying to set it up with SS mesh. I'm quite comfortable with my AGA-T, but the thought of dual coils on SS is daunting.

Well, I'm in my own home ... now where did I put the cotton ...

Vapires (I recognize that there is no M in there, so you're not a vampire... ;) ) -- here are a couple of video links:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5uWJhLDzT8

And this one is by Busardo, who knows his stuff with vaping; the first part of the video is a review/comparison between the KFL and the russian 91%, but the 2nd half or last third is the building process.

But, I don't do the thing he shows where he pulls the wick ends up above the bottom half of the chimney, cuts, then "stuffs" it back... too messy for me; I wet the wick ends and place them right there on the little ledges, before I ever screw on the bottom of the chimney, then adjust as needed to make sure it's "straight" -- I also do NOT!!! recommend the top-filling he does, because unless you're an old-hand expert with kayfuns and have PERFECT coordination, it will cause the most awful flooding.

I'm sure there are a lot of others, but those two, I had in my bookmarks.

Genesis with mesh gave me fits for months ... when they first came out. I can relate, but micro coils are nowhere near as difficult. In fact lots of folks use micro coils on genesis builds now too.

Maybe keep your normal gear and just focus on a simple micro coil done right, with a dripper or drip tank ie Kayfun, as something to tinker with...

dont give up yet! I've found all the fussing and fiddling paid off. At least you learn what not to do!!!

I can successfully build a coil with mesh on a genny and I still hate doing it. I auto drip on my tanks now and really dig it. A lot of people like myself don't like working with mesh, and it's definitely not something to start with. I see he got an Igo though. That would be my suggested device and it doesn't look like that worked for him either.

I'm thinking maybe he should see if there are any B&M's in his area that may be able to show him how to do it. Seeing it done in person with help and instruction may be what gets things rolling.

Yup, what we prefer to work with is a big part of it.

I certainly agree with not suggesting someone start with mesh. I did it that way and it was a bit frustrating to figure out. There are so many interrelated variables involved and they each have their little tricks that really help in getting the setup dependable.

The good thing is there are so many systems out there everyone can find something that works for them.

Somewhere out there
I've been a straight up vaper for 2 years now. . . protanks, evods, ce4s, LR attys, cartos, you name it.

I've been told that flavor and vapor and overall performance is better with RBAs and RDAs. . .

Spent over $300 on 2 Kayfuns 2 Smoktech RSSTs with air flow caps, Ithaka, UDB, Caterpillar, IGOs, etc . . .

Watched countless videos on wrapping coils, rolling mesh, etc . . .

AFTER 6 MONTHS OF PRACTICE AND TRYING, NONE OF IT WORKS AT ALL . . . ITS NOT AS EASY AS THEY CLAIM . . . IT IS A TASK AND A BURDEN . . . NOT ONE SUCCESSFUL COIL

Ridiculous if you ask me . . . waste of time, waste of money . . .

So, I guess I'll never have that "great vape" and "great flavor" I'm told I will have with an RDA or RBA . . . too many "secrets" don't want to be shared . . .

whatever . . . :(

If you just wanted to vent, I hope you can sell off your RBAs and recover some of that money to buy some nice tanks or clearos, some of the new Aspire and Kanger tanks are pretty darn good by all accounts. If you find that route less stressful than building, go for it.

However, if you still want to give it another try, there are many people standing by ready to help. I'm no expert, but I'd gladly try to help myself. I remember a guy on the rebuildable forum a month or two back who was really struggling to get a working kayfun build with many, many failures. Many people did jump in and guided him to success. Getting a working dripper with Kanthal and silica or cotton is going to be much easier than mesh on an RSST. Once you're got a dripper working, move on to the Kayfuns.

There are no secrets vital to success that are being withheld. People seem to like to share and show off their coils and methods. There are many good videos, this one is rather good for a kayfun build https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT2bkmsNVmI

As far as re-coiling being a chore, I actually agree somewhat, it's a task, not a hobby for me. However the results are worth the effort. I like the feeling of self-sufficiency it gives me too. I don't want to spend time trying fancy builds. I'll just sit on my couch watching TV and do a coil using the method I've found to work. Some time this weekend I plan on switching over 2 Kayfuns from hand-wrapped silica to micro-coil cotton builds.

You really do get the best flavor in my humble opinion with RDA, RBAs. What exactly is your issues and perhaps we can help you? I've been building now for around a month and a half and it's been working out fabulous. In fact I've been winding different types of coils and just built a successful tiger coil. For me I like to tinker and I'm very used to working with small things as I did dentistry for over 25 years. There are certain tricks you can use to help you out. Like building a micro coil. You can wind it around a 3/4in. Drill bit, pulse it hot and condense it more with tweasers. Make sure your coils don't over lap each other. If your winding a tradition coil on silica you can stick a pin into the silica to make it rigid while you wind then remove the pin when your done. This helps me a lot. What exactly is the problem with your build? Maybe we can help. Don't give up. It does take practice especially if your not used to working with small things. I know you can do this successfully.try a few winding tricks and check out some you tube videos. You tube really helped me.is it that your not reaching your desired ohms? What exactly is happening? Please don't give up. I know you can do it! Best wishes

I don't think 3/4" qualifies as a micro ;)

I don't think I even own a 3/4" drill bit and I have some machine shop stuff (I use the lathe if I need a hole that big).

I've got some cellucotton coming. Should be interesting. I bought the top version before I read it was the hardest type to work with

And of course you like cheese ... all cats do! Actually, so do all dogs ...

We had to stop giving our cat cheese when she was about 2 yrs old, she couldn't digest it anymore (milk product) and it just makes her barf. Poor kitty. She got a little turkey tonight, my husband indulging her while we ate our dinner. Spoiled rotten, and she deserves every bit of it.

Genesis tanks are about 3 times more difficult to get working well than a standard 3 post dripper. Pop an igo on, grab some ekowool and wrap some 26 awg wire around it 4 times and stick each end through one post. Boom, instant working single coil. If you aren't ready for micros than don't do them, simple as that.

Sent from my Fuego

call me a crazy dutchguy but i just cant wrap around ekowool.. or silica for that matter (well it works somewhat .. but i dont like the result.. ) mini micro nano coils are easy (okay the wicking takes some trial & error).. wrapping around a screwdriver/needle is too easy. Theres even a tool out there to make it even easier.

Sidenote: i spent days on youtube watching riptrippers and all the big reviewers do various coils and learned that way.
