I saw this article this morning. This "reporter" is so ignorant!
Gizmodo changed a lot in the past months, it doesn't seem to be a blog about gadgets anymore. Seems more like another useless news blog. I used to love this blog, but since they changed the design, everything else changed!
The tab in my browser is still open, I refresh the page now and then to see if there's new comments.

He qualifies us as "failed smoker". How can someone who quits smoking can be considered as a failed smoker?

How can I register with the site without using my FB account? I don't like my real name to be on sites. Any idea?

As for the commenter who said he felt like smacking a vaping guy at the bar just because it 'looks like' smoking.....oh, buddy..please try it just once. Pretty please! How much of a buttmunch do you need to be to get that angry because you don't like the 'looks' of something that isn't doing a darn thing to you?

That's a shame - Kat is actually one of their better editors. I think it is just a "knee-jerk" reaction to something she is unfamiliar with. Unfortunately Blu and some of these other companies often make it hard not to make fun of them. I'll post something there when I have a minute.

Just a heads up, new commenters have to go through an approval process and your first comments will most likely never even get posted. Certainly not if you "call out" the editor in a negative way. Although, certainly thoughtful critical comments are acceptable.

Gizmodo editors frequently go on judgmental binges railing against anything they don't find appealing themselves. Their political statements have gotten them in how water (the big Anonymous breach).

The ~good~ news is that she just being obnoxious, looking at her own posts she sometimes goes 'girly' goop over stuff so she just looks silly criticizing flavors.

The responses have been great, I left my own as well... bloody silly child editor. *shakes head* How is that for judgmental irony? -Magnus

I just posted my reply also. Totally uneducated opinion on a large media site. It's a damn shame what qualifies as a "reporter" nowadays.

Please, if you don't have a Gizmodo account, make one. Defend the cause. also, if you're on there, check out my post...same name.

Vapers UNITE!

That's why they make these idiotic articles so people will get upset and sign up so they can post. I think I'll just let her sit in her stupidity without me.

I was checking out what Kat had to say about the article and I came across this:

Kat Hannaford:
"The e-cigs post was meant to be a bit of fun...unfortunately some dicktards didn't see it that way."

Why can't people educate themselves BEFORE they criticize others?

Actually, she's right. It's clearly just a post meant to make us all out to be smug dorks with our weird stupid looking devices that have silly social networking capabilities. Yeah, it's inaccurate in somewhat dangerous ways, but it obviously isn't meant as real journalism. She's just making fun of the way we deal with our addiction.
I recommend we all save the vitriol for the 'real' news stories and treat this for what it is -- background noise.

I was avid Gizmodo reader until the Japan earthquake and tsunami. What really turned me off to Giz was how certain editors (Jesus in particular) would censor posts written by readers with dissenting views. I'm sure he has always done that, but it just appeared really blatant at the time. I may not always agree with someone, but just because your opinion differs doesn't mean I think you should be "silenced." I deleted my account after that, but still read on occasion.

It seems the quality of the articles really started going downhill after they posted all the info about the leaked iPhone 4. Now it just looks like sensational "journalism" (I use that term very loosely) to get page hits. The redesign didn't really help either.

On the plus side though, they posted an article about nanotube technology possibly being used in cigarette filters. A bunch of readers commented about eCigs and their potential benefits which is actually how I found this forum. So, thanks to the ECF members who also comment on Gizmodo!

About the article:

I agree that Blu's idea is silly, but Kat's "dicktard" response was downright childish. They were already losing a reader, but it pretty much seals the deal for me.

I actually replied to someone named Giggity who said:

E-cigs are good for those who have a habitual addiction, not so good for those with the hardcore chemical addiction. The cost of these things goes way up when you add more powerful cartridges. I tried them once, spent about $50 and couldn't tell I was smoking anything. I'd love to give up this disgusting habit if I could, but I've had no luck with e-cigs. I suppose a taper method is the best way to use these.

Actually, I smoked from 1979-2008. I'd say that there was a chemical addiction going on. I did the patch and was smoke free for one year. I did zyban and the patch. Again, I got a year or so. I do use an electronic cigarette and the only time I've smoked tobacco is when my ecig juice ran out. The point is that you tried them once and didn't find the right mix for you. Just like cigarettes and cigars there are many variants. In my case a higher voltage model was the ticket. So, yeah I am still addicted to nicotine. But, I am a healthier addict and my family is happy. I hope you find your own solution. I also hope you wont slam mine.

If you google e cigarette forum you will find a forum where you can learn far more than I can write about here. Who knows? The habit you kick might be your own.

I know the original article was meant to be humorous. It really wasn't.
