Glass Tanks

I have been reading these posts about building tanks out of syringes and poly tubing and such. I just have to ask. What is wrong with glass tubing? Borosilicate tubing would be strong. Breakage should not be an issue. So is there something that I am missing.

I am looking at the new 18650 mod by Joye and a building a tank for the top just seems to be the right way to go, but I really do not like the idea of plastic or some derivative.

Can someone help?

Nothing is wrong with it. Just beyond the capability of most modders to grind glass and premade glass tanks are expensive

I have been wondering the same thing. Cutting the tubing is easy enough - the tube cutters are not that expensive and you can buy attachments for a dremel to take care of polishing back the ends. The only problem I can see is fracturing...

Is the inner diameter the same? If it is then the same grommets etc. that are being used in the syringe tanks should work.

Well...grommets come in all sizes. I think what's important is the inside dimentions so the carto fits tight.

The cost factor is low. Time as a semi-retired individual is inexpensive. I might just have to experiment - at least once (LOL)... If it does not work or is not worth the effort then I have learned something - but nothing really lost. If it works and does not take much effort then I have learned something and gained something.

I just thought that someone my have tried it and could advise...

Where could one buy the glass tubing? I thought about using some old sight-glass tubing at the local hardware store, but I don't know what type of glass and would rather pay for something I know I can trust.

I am pretty sure that pyrex and borosilicate are one and the same. Borosilicate is used with lab equipment - test tubes, and such so I trust it.

This is where some have been buying their poly tubing and they also sell glass tubing. You get to choose diameter, wall thickness, etc. A wide variety of choices...

If you Google Borosilicate tubing suppliers you should be able to find other places besides just McMaster's as well, they even may cut it for you to the size specs and only have a small fee to do so. If ya get 10-20 people who would want them it would also cut down the cost.

nice, thank you. i noticed some of our UK/EU friends are doing coops for pyrex/bomex tubes. would be a good idea here as well.
