Schnarph--I've often thought that every person should be required to wait tables for at least a few weeks. It gives one a completely different perspective. It amazes me how rude some customers can be. . . not to mention cheap.

Oh, guess I could say GOOD MORNING and TGIF. . .

I've lived in quite a few different parts of the country and I have to say, unequivocally, Florida has the rudest people as far as how they treat servers. And if you go out to eat early (yep...I'm talking early bird specials :p ), you will usually see this poor behavior stepped up another notch.

[Warning Rant a Coming]

Okay . . . Dishwasher/Busing Tables/Waiting Tables/Bartender/Maitre d' . . . Coffee shop/Diner/Restaurants . . . Lunch/Dinner/Late Night . . . Country/Suburbia/Big City . . . Been There Done That . . .

HUGE BIG DIFFERENCE . . .

As such, always had to depend on TIPS (No Matter what Job I had then and I even had other positions in the service fields that were dependant on Tips too), and was living day by day or week by week on the money I earned. So, I Always Tip Well - If Not Over Tip (that is if the service provided actually calls for it) . . . However, I have become a person of two minds when it comes to Tipping Today, especially given the ATTITUDE that many younger people (and some old timers too) in the industry now have about Tipping.

I am so OVER, when you are paying the check, the waiter/waitress think they have an automatic right and are entitled to the change as a tip by asking - Do You NEED Change . . . WHAT - If I didn't want any money/change back, I would have said something (which I have done many times) . . . So YES - I DO WANT "My" Change . . . DON'T ASK - Bring Me "My" Change (that is if there is any - usually pay the bill to the penny . . . AND - Then leave a Tip in Cash on the table or in the "folder"). . . I would never ever have asked this as a waiter/bartender (nor even "expected" a Tip and was just appreciative for getting one - small or large). Matter of fact, some of the places I worked, the person would have been fired on the spot - No Ifs, Ands, or Buts . . . 86'ed . . . GONE ! ! !

I will never understand why someone can't wait and see what a person is going to leave for the service they provided, especially since they just might have been surprised what they would have gotten - which could/would have been so much more (I usually leave 30-50% for really good service) . . . As I always was, especially when I never charged the automatic 18% Tip that people are normally charged for larger parties and mentioned that to the person who took the check (I actually had someone leave "Me" a tip equal to the check  . . . $400.00 that made my night and week). . . It annoys "Me" so much when someone does this - that I will either say Yes, and watch the look on their face - then just leave the minimum (15%) and tell them/management why . . .

Just Sayin' . . .

[/Rant Over]

Now . . .

Who can tell "Me" what it means when someone places a penny on the table face up compaired to a penny facedown ? ? ? ? ;)

#1 Morning all. I remember when I was a waitress, normally I would simply say " I will be right back" after they handed me payment. Most times the folks would just say No no, we're good.

Ducking.........(Sorry Uncle) I will say though I never asked if someone wanted change back, that really is over the line imo. aaahhh so many years ago.

Pretty sure it means they left a penny on the table and didn't think much about which side is up or down...so no difference to most of us :)

It's the SS hcigar model. I like the look of the mixed one but the things I read about the brass locking ring being flimsy and bending out of shape made me get the all SS.
same here. ive been using it more than any previously owned mech. it even travels to work with me now! i hope to use it as my primary device once the KFL and Kraken show up (separately). i believe both are 22mm.
It's definitely thin, I could see that happening. I dropped a mod once, stuff happens. I went for the brass, got a copper coming tomorrow. I'll have to be careful with them.

Edit: I ordered it before January first. :D
whats the deal w/ jan 1st? approaching chinese new years affecting mail?
#2 In one of the restaurants I was working in, the busboy made as much as many of the waiters thanks to tip sharing (tipouts). He was pretty good, I'll admit, but he didn't have to schmooze snooty, drunk rich kids for a buck. As to the paychecks, they often came to nearly $0 depending on hours. If the manager/scheduler didn't like you, you were the first person cut for the shift, meaning you came in and prepped (side work), waited one round of tables, and went back to rolling silverware and whatnot and went home with $20. If the schmoozing isn't enough, the money part makes the job pretty stressful.

Interesting fact I leaned after going from busboy to manager and everything between, white waitresses make the most tips, often depending on their age (-), waistline (-), and bra size (+++). Next is white waiters, and you can probably guess the rest. This has very little to do with the quality of service, although appearing happy and willing to please is key. IMO, if everyone had to spend a few months waiting tables at some point, I think we would all treat each other a little better. Wait tables too long though, and you might get burnt out on human interaction. Rant (?) concluded. ;)

I posted this earlier... smile, it confuses people. :)

Happy Friday! to those of you that can call it Friday
that made me laugh :)
I tip pizza slaves well. especially those who work counter. few too people tip counter service employees, often they make the same hourly as the deliver driver with significantly less tips.
they also will make you pizza better when you call in next time if they remember you. the trick is to get them to remember you.
who doesnt like a better made Za?
delivery also gets better tip. people think $3 is standard for delivery regardless of order size, this is not true. (ive taken 2-300$ orders and gotten $3 tips). tip a driver better, yeah they got it easy, but so do you, you just had food delivered to your house

Yeah, uncle, that "do you want change" thing is right up there...maddening/annoying/passive aggressive. It puts people on the spot in a very uncomfortable way.
