Just found this thread. Info was added. That is really cool. Glad to get out of the business of funding BT, BG, and my state. Good luck without my money. Now, most (but not all) of that money goes to having fun with a healthier, more fun, less disgusting habit!
The amount of taxes on cigs is amazing at this point. I think the gov't makes as much money off cigs as the tobacco companies do! Think about it, when tobacco companies sell to distributors, the distributor takes a cut, then the distributor sells to the stores and the stores take a nice cut too. Then the gov't(state and federal) make quite a few bucks off each pack too.
Just 4 years ago, I could buy 2 packs of generics for $5.00-$5.50 depending on the store, and major brands were about $3.75 per pack. But then all at once, after Obama got elected, he raised taxes on cigs more than ever and the price skyrocketed to about $6.25-$6.75 per pack around here for major brands, and I was paying $4.75 average for a pack of L&M generics!
