im right there with ya... but i already miss mine... the threads were a lil stripped when jay replaced my button and insides for me... and he told me to be carefull... well my atty last night died and when i went to change it the new atty wouldnt grab at all... :( so i went home and tried all my atties and cartos... nothin... so now im back to my tornado for now... but that isnt cutting it for me anymore... even with LR... but i cant really complain cause i got my GLV for free from a friend... and it makes me wanna cry when i think about it... but im tryin to save up so i can make a pre-order so i can carry around my GLV again...

Can anyone shed some light on what may have happened to this poor guys GLV? As that i may avoid, or preventative maintenance my way out of a similar issue...

TY

the threads on the v1 sometimes wore out and issues were created on screwing in attys. the v2 is suppose to have eliminated this.

I did notice in Jay's updated GLV 2 video that he made specific mention of the threads... i guess i understand why now.

while on the subject of threads.. ive read elsewhere on ecf that people are using some kind of (lube?) on their inside ("female"?) threads ever so often...

ideas/thoughts/suggestions on this practice as it relates to my soon to be GLV 2?

I havent ever used anything to lube threads on an atty but I guess you could. Just dont see why people would do that. probably nolox.

At bottom is a link to a video Amajn put up about proper application of Noalox; haven't watched it (flaky connection), but I guess putting it on atty/atty connector threads was covered too, and that area should apparently be avoided FYI. Here is some conversation from the thread re that:

I just finished putting the noalox on everything, sat down when finished and here this is! And what did I do??? Put some on the base where the atty goes, oh no!

As for putting it on the atty base i would wipe it clean and use some rubbing alcohol to remove it :D

Ty, I jumped up (yes, literally) and cleaned. Disaster averted.

Very good that you included the part about not putting it on the atty threads! Wish someone had told me that first LOL I found out the hard way! It WILL cause a short so DO NOT put it on the atty threads.

....just thought I'd pass that along just in case! I do put a little Noalox on my cap threads when they feel like they need it.

....I know nothing about it myself, just thought I'd pass it along just in case! (So, I dunno either what substance ppl would have been talking about for putting on atty/atty connection threads... besides Isopropyl alcohol when cleaning of course...)

The two downfalls of every mod are the button and connectors. There is no way to stop metal on metal from stripping over time. The best one can do is to make sure the threads are clean. this should prolong the life drastically.

Agreed!!!!!, and that's why I use the best materials/button I can get. In the last 6-8 months I have had 0 buttons go bad. and I'm sure the new brass insert will be just as durable. If you take care of your GLV it will serve you well for a long time, and if it ever does misbehave I will be there to make it work again.:toast:

/note to self.... Noalox on atty threads = bad

in that line of thought though... what about the end cap threads? should these periodically be maintained with Noalox?
I see nothing wrong with that, and a quick wipe with some WD-40 every now and then would be fine as well.... those threads will last a very long time even if you don't.
