Hi all.

Wanting to dilute some 18mg Dekang RY4 to about 12mg.

Set off to the chemist here in Australia and asked for VG or PG, they said they couldnt help with VG but the pharmacist gave me a 100ml bottle of Glycerol BP 1ml / 1 and said it's the same as PG. Is this correct?

Am I ok to dilute by adding this straight to the Dekang RY4?

Cheers for your help.

No, it's basically VG. VG = vegetable glycerine/glycerol/glycerin (all the same thing). BP = British Pharmacopoeia which means it's pharmaceutical grade (pure). This thread gives some more information and addresses why pharmacies don't usually sell anything marked *vegetable* glycerine - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/52669-pg-vg-labeling-purity-please-read.html. PG is propylene glycol, which in the UK at least is not kept in stock at most pharmacies, but can be ordered from their distributors. PG is different from glycerol - it's thinner and less sweet.

Yes you can add it to your RY4. It will cause a reduction of flavour. VG on it's own is very thick but at a concentration of approx 33% in a PG liquid (assuming your RY4 is PG based), it should end up with a reasonable consistency, and not too thick. VG can if necessary be thinned with de-ionised/distilled water (up to about 20% water might be used for a 100% VG liquid).

The pharmacist does not know his chemistry. He should be corrected, just for his own info.

Just to add a comment, vegetable glycerin (or glycerol, same thing) is glycerin derived from plant oils. Glycerin without the vegetable label is probably vegetable glycerin, but it could be from animal fats or synthesized from non-oil compounds. Technically these are all the same, wiith purity being the gauge for consumption, but I personally like the taste of real vegetable glycerin better. Drug store glycerin I have found to have a slight plastic taste, but that might be from whatever plastic bottle they have used.
