Hey all. I have to give an informative speech in a few weeks and I chose electronic cigarettes as my topic. Since it's informative only, I was thinking about just discussing it's history, how it works, and possible benefits/dangers. Do any of you know any interesting articles about ecigarettes I can use as sources for my speech? I am in the process of scouring google and ECF for sources but I tought that it may be also good to ask all the experts here.

I would like to get into that but it's only a 5 - 6 min speech and informative only. So just the basics. My goal is not to get people to use them, just tell what they are, how they were invented, their use and possible benefits, and maybe some of the dangers (nic juice is dangerous in kids hands, the mods can blow up a person doesn't know what they are doing, and how they are not FDA approved).

Make sure to include stuff about the negative press and lack of objective information regarding its safety and effectiveness. Here's a link to CASAA's list of documents regarding E-cigs and their use. CASAA Research Library

Yeh I was thinking about that. I was going to squeeze that in when I talk about the liquids used. That PG is used in asthma inhalers and in nebulizers.

i would also put in somewhere that vaping has been used in the medical field for 62 years. many test have been do on pg for asthma use with steroids and we replace the steroids with nicotine

Yeah, I use to go to the hospital every year as a kid because of my asthma mixed with pneumonia. They would always send me home with a nebulizer when I left.

the only reason i know is i had really bad asthma back in the days and had to vape between 5-10ml of it a day because i was in hospitals 6 months out of the year

If you get a chance, perhaps you could leave them with a question. Why do all those FDA approved patches and gum mysteriously have price increases whenever a state tax increases that puts them at almost exactly the same price per carton/pack as the cigarettes they are supposed to replace. Here in WA Costco the nicotine gum is up to 63.99 for a weeks worth of 4mg gum while the price of cigarettes is 68.00 aprox before tax. 5 years ago the price for both were in the 45.00 range and the only thing that changed was the WA tax on cigarettes. Costco has an across the board 3% markup which means the drug companies raised the price to parallel the tobacco + tax price.

FDA approval and regulation of the vaping industry is likely to kill people since there is no cost effective nicotine replacement method under their control after all these years.
