I've done some research and read the stickys in the Library.

Now I can't figure out what E-Cigarette to purchase. Now I'm not going to take this as serious as most people on here, but miss smoking and want something to cure my cravings.

So what E-Cigarette would you suggest that would be perfect for a beginner?
I will be ordering 3 of them, one for me my dad and mom. They recently quit smoking and would like to try one as well.

Please post your suggestions and tips for beginners, remember I have done research about E-Cigarette's so don't chew my head off and tell me to go READ.

What sites have you ordered from?

Thanks
Jon

I really like my KR808D-1. I've picked up two sets now (one for a friend). Two piece design is painless, and I like the cigarette form factor.

A couple of batteries are necessary for this, to go all day (switch between in-use and the other one on charge). A PCC is handy if you're away from power.

I've bought from NHaler and Vapor4Life (V4L calls theirs the VaporKing) -- positive experience with both shops. They, and other good KR suppliers, can be found in the Suppliers area of the forum.

For me, as a pack a day Marlboro smoker, I found using 24 mg/ml nicotine strength key. I've seen multiple others with the same story -- we kept smoking regular cigarettes (though fewer) while using 16 - 18 mg strength, were able to fully stop when we bumped to 24.

Use a longish, slow, drag -- 5 or 6 seconds. A fast puffing doesn't do much.

Drink extra fluids -- the base that makes the vapor is a humectant, dries you out a bit. I'll drink water throughout the day (a good idea anyhow, but necessary with vaping).

If you're getting 3 sets, maybe mix 16-18 and 24, so you can see what works -- it does vary.

I'm sure a bunch of eGo folks will jump in -- undoubtedly excellent products, just not what I'm using.

Good luck!

the 510 is a good starter as well as the ego or the 016. madvapes is a good place to order from as well as totallywicked. depending on how often you wish to recharge the battery depends on the model I would choose. The 510 is good but you recharge often, the ego and 016 hold charge for a longer time, the 016 and ego are both bigger tho, as for the cravings I would go with a 36mg nic juice, it was the only thing that worked for me. awesomevapor has some good deals on e juice right now and they are amazing flavor and vapor production arno is on it excellent cust service speedy shipping

I'm currently using the 510 and the 016 enjoy both

First... How much did each of you smoke? This can be a factor in vaping success. For example, my first PV after a lot of research was the eGo. I was a heavy smoker (2+ PAD for 33 yrs) and knew that I would not follow through if I had to change batteries all day long. So... 510 or eGo if heavy use would be my recommendations. If your parents are older though, the KR808's design might be easier for them. Good luck!

Well I would go through a pack of Marlboro reds in a day and open a pack in the morning. I was smoking for almost 4 years just recently quit.
My parents would smoke Marlboro ultra lights and would smoke a pack and open a pack at night before bed. Although my red could smoke reds or lights he preferred ultra lights. So him and I would probably be 24 and my mom 16 or 18? They have been smoking ever since I can remember, on and off.
I was looking at the 510, but how is the 510 Auto? Does it turn on to sound or bumping it?

I want one that looks like a cigarette size wise. If your talking about the joye ego isn't that a slim to fat type deal?

At the moment, I am alternating between my ego and my jstick v3. The stick is very nice because it has a built in usb passthrough. It's not a true passthrough (usb charges battery, battery powers atty), but you can vape while you're charging. I am at my computer and in my car so having that as an option is great. The kit also comes with a spare battery, so there isn't really even a chance that I'll run out of power before I can get to a charger.

The stick comes with a 302 atomizer. I really like the flavor on the 302, and the vapor is relatively cool - which can be a good or a bad thing. Unfortunately, vapor production isn't quite 510 or 901 levels. However, with the right drag, it's certainly enough for me. In fact, it's kind of nice for low-pro vaping, if that's your thing.

That's my non-ego suggestion. Hope it's helpful. Good thing you're doin' the research.

I've got a simple question, i've heard numerous answers about this.
But typically how long will 1 cartridge last? How many cigarettes? Also if I bought e-liquid how long will lets say 3-4 drops in the cartridge and 1 on the atomizer last me?

that's the only thing that i'm worried about, I don't want to have to keep worrying about having fill up cartridges or having the replace one. So if I was out on a boat for hours and hours and I ran out, it would be a hassle to stop fishing and refill cartridges.

Welcome Jon!

For a beginner, most people would recommend a KR808 or a Joye 510. These are great choices if you're able to charge your spare batteries all day, because they don't last very long. I started with a Joye eGo, which is the same thing as a Joye 510 but the battery lasts about 7 hours.

I get my hardware from cignot, but other vendors may be having sales so it's OK to shop around. also, other vendors have a more extensive selection of e-juice.

Don't get 3 e-cigs, one for each of you. All of the parts are eventually subject to failure, much as a cigarette only lasts until you have to put it out. Get "kits" with 1 charger, 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, and 5 cartridges for each of you; kits are cheaper anyway. Get several 30 ml containers of e-juice of different flavors to refill the cartridges; you may find a flavor that you like better than "tobacco."

The next question you need to find an answer for is what might be the best nicotine strength for your e-juice. I smoked 2 packs/day for 28 years, and 24mg nicotine juice works very well for me. You might consider getting e-juice of various nic strengths to see what works best. You will need to make a significant up-front investment to see if e-cigs work for you. In my experience, most of the investment is in e-juice, just to see what you like best.

If things aren't going as well as you had hoped, please get back to us. There are many knowledgable people here who are eager to help you out without telling you to read more stuff.

Stick to a manual battery. The auto batteries can be set off accidently and can short out if juice get in them.

The eGo is almost exactly the size of a small petit corona cigar. It's really not that big and is very classy looking. Battery life makes them well worth it.

If you do go with a 510, you may as well get a PCC too as you'll need it. The 510 batteries will only last you about 1-2 hrs of vaping before they need recharging. My co-worker carries 3-4 510 batteries and a PCC with her to get through the work day as opposed to my one eGo battery.

I'm not looking to do this forever, just something right now to kick the cravings.
I want to stop it all eventually, don't want to then get addicted to e-cigs.

after hearing what you guys have to say about charging and spending a lot of money upfront on e-liquid I am now having negative thoughts about e-cigarettes. Maybe it's not worth it? To have to keep charging, making sure you have one charged and to keep refilling carts sounds quite irritating to me. :|
Last 1-2 hours that's ridiculous, I am 19 spend a lot of time on my computer for I run a little business, most my time is spent on a comp and in the basement where my work place is. So I would do nothing but puff on an e-cig

If you are going to do most of your vaping at a computer, I suggest getting a USB passthrough. You can get one for whatever model e-cig you buy and save the batteries for when you are out and about. also, look at the PCC (personal charging cases). They allow you to charge one battery on the go and most hold carts or cartos as well. Then when your battery dies, you take the charged one out, put the dead one in and continue on.

I was thinking about getting the 510 heard nothing but things about them.
But how annoying is it to have to press a button every time you wanna smoke?
I've tried an auto e-cig, not a manual one. Seems like it might get annoying to have to press a button every time.

Its not annoying at all :) you'll get used to it in no time :D and as everyone has said, they are far more superior to the automatic ones in terms of maintenance and lifespan.

as far as size goes.... a regular cig is about 9mm in diameter...a 510 or a KR808d-1 is about 9mm in diameter and about 120mm long (so the length of a 120 cig).. the eGo is 14mm in diameter and about the same length 120mm (so it's about as big around as a AA size battery)...
the eGo battery lasts about 8-10 hours...

Cartridges are easy...a couple of drops in it takes no time....but there's also cartomizers those last about as long as the equivalent to half a pack... get blanks and fill those... average juice consumption is around 2-3 ml a day...so an average $16 bottle of juice will last 10-15 days or more.... you can start with an initial higher mg of juice and then step it down to ween yourself off completely....

Great information. I think i'll wind up getting 510's.

The 510's battery life is about 1-2 hours? Is that accurate?

that is accurate... if you're in front of the PC alot I'd consider getting a passthrough with it ...and possibly a PCC (personal charging case) if you're on the go alot... the PCC holds a charge and you can charge a battery about 6ish times with it... so you use one battery and when it dies swap it out for the one in the PCC...and it should be charged by the time that one dies...it kinda looks like a hardpack of cigs..holds a battery and a couple cartridges...

That depends on how heavily you vape. I've heard reports as low as half an hour from some chain-vapers.

Now I haven't ever had a 510, mind you, but I have had several KR8 batteries and a big box that I made myself.

The KR8 "short" battery = 180 mAh = about an hour for me

The KR8 "regular" battery = 280 mAh = maybe two hours

The KR8 "XL" battery = 380 mAh = about four hours

My home-made box, with KR8 connector and a big 3000 mAh battery = over two days :vapor:
