Hey everyone.

I've been poring over these forums for the last couple weeks, soaking in all the information I can. And what a wealth of information there is on these forums! I'm a regular forum go-er, so it's been easy to find my way around this place, as it's fairly well laid out. At first all the information here was daunting, and almost turned me away. But, I stuck with reading, and finally got a good grasp on various PVs, all the various juice delivery devices and whatnot.

The wife has been poking at me forever to stop smoking. A friend of ours recently started vaping to get a way from Snus (he's an ex-smoker as well). It intrigued me, but I didn't think much of it at first. Then my wife started nagging me to at least switch to an e-cigarette type of device if I won't flat out stop smoking. So I've been doing lots of research here, and looking around online.

There's some local vape shops close to me, but looking at their online stores, it looks like their prices are way high and selection pretty small compared to the online only type vape stores. Then again, I haven't bothered to step foot into a local shop yet.

I'm looking for a smaller eGo type set up. Something along the lines of an eGo type mini or something for when I'm out and about, and maybe something like a 650mAh eGo twist type set up for when I'm at home. I'm currently a pack a day smoker. Can't wait to kick the smell, ashes, and nasty taste of smoking cigarettes.

Thanks everyone on here for the wealth of information and cool discussions going on! I think I'll like it here.

Hiya X3ro, and glad to hear that you are really looking at giving vaping a good try! I smoked a little over a pack a day and found that a good combination for me to get started was a 650mah battery and a 1000mah battery. The two usually get me through the day with little problem unless I am being lazy and chain vaping all day long. Finding the right combination of atomizers (recommend to get these to at least sample juices at your local B&M if you have one), and a tank system for when you are out and about. From the sound of things, you've been doing quite a bit of prowling around the forums and probably have a good idea of the gear you want to get to start with. I think you've got a good plan starting with the eGo style batteries. Good luck to you on this and let us know how it goes for you. :)

I'm sort of in the same boat. I have the Blu and another not really satisfied with them. Thinking of trying a Ego Mini. I'm a 2ppd smoker of a light cig. So far I have not liked the Tabakky tasting ones but like fruit flavors. Nothing local here so have to buy online. We do roll our own smokes now to save money since we were going through 5ppd in our house..pretty expensive. Save over $650 a month now but would like to kick the habbit and smell and hope hubby will do the same if I have success.

The whole dripping atomizer thing still has me a little stumped. I'm not sure what someone would use to drip to sample flavors. Any suggestions here?

Looking into reviews on the Blu is what got me really looking into e-cigarettes in general, and eventually onto this forum. My wife hates that I heavily look into anything before buying, but this time it was a good thing. I can get started for cheaper than a Blu kit, and also have a better experience from the get-go!

I really wanted to start with a mini sized kit, but after seeing it in person and talking to folks at my local shop, I went with the standard ego 650 batteries and Vision clearomizers (CE4? I'm still learing the terminology). It's an easy combo to use and the size issue hasn't been a big deal (it's about the size of a standard sharpie marker). I'm glad I opted for it instead of a 3-4 charges per day battery system. While I carry a spare battery (and a couple of extra clearomizers), a single battery lasts me just over one day.

Good luck!

Welcome X3ro and congrats on making the smarter choice!

Then again, I haven't bothered to step foot into a local shop yet.

This is worth doing in and of itself. Most good shops will let you try different flavors of juice for free. I also found it useful to actually hold a device in my own hands to get a true sense of size and usability. While most B&M stores do have higher prices on most things to help compensate for a higher overhead this isn't *always* true about everything. Sometimes I can actually save money when I only need a couple of minor things and don't plan on spending enough to hit the "free shipping" purchase point level of most online stores. Last but not least your local shop gives you the added convenience of impulse and even emergency purchases and ease of return/exchange if you have any problems with your purchase. I spend most of my e-cig budget online but I always try to spend some money at my local shop too, just to help keep them in business.

It sounds like you've done some research, which is good. I find the minis too small to compensate for the 1.5 pack a day habit I quit. Regardless of what size/model you choose do cover your bases by *always* having a back up, at home and especially when away. The saddest stories I read on here are those from newer vapers that take *one* battery to work with them just to find out it broke on the commute or didn't take a full charge. Just the knowledge that I pack enough juice and battery (in at least two different devices) to last me a full 24 hours minimum has done absolute *wonders* to reduce the stress that can come along with quitting the stinkies. :)

Dripping means depositing a few drops of juice directly onto the coil of an atomizer without using any wicks or filler material. This ensures an efficient delivery of juice to coil and by most accounts, results in a superior flavor. You can usually get 4 or 5 puffs from a couple of drops but that can vary depending on the type of juice, device you are using, voltage/wattage settings of your device, resistance of the atty, etc.

To do this however, you need a device where you can easily get to the atomizer. In my case, I use one of my old 650 mah eGo batteries, a 510 atomizer (I pulled the bridge on my atomizer but that isn't really necessary) and a drip trip. The drip tip replaces the prior delivery device (on mine, it was a cartridge) and is hollow in the center allowing you to drip direct without pulling the tip off each time you want to add juice. By eliminating any wicking or other delivery issues you ensure that your coil is well saturated which should result in more intense flavor and great vapor production, barring any other unforeseen issues such gunk buildup on the coil of course.

I even use my first vaping device, a cig alike, for this very purpose at times. I still have it, it still works so why not put it to work.

Vape On! :)

Experimentation is the key here.

Yeah but there's just no beating actually being able to talk to somebody face to face and actually see the widgets and taste some juices. When I decided to switch to the Twist, I went to one of the well known and wildly popular shops around here because I just could not tell from photos how big the batteries were. Actually being able to hold it made up my mind. I had been worried they were "bulky". They're not. Also, they're very light.

Sure, once you get oriented and know what you want and all, you can save cash with online ordering but at the beginning, it can really help to go see the widgets and ask questions and all. The one here I went to has a counter just for "newbies" who need help picking out their first kit. And, yes, their prices are a bit higher than some of the places I deal with regularly but if you're going to sink money into a full kit, actually getting to see it, touch it, ask questions... that's kinda worth a little extra money.

That's a point worth repeating.

I had a DOA from a vendor recently. And they're a great vendor with excellent customer service but having to do an exchange by mail takes time. It was my second battery so I could limp along during the shipping back and forth but there's a definite advantage to being able to grab the receipt and run to the brick 'n' mortar for an exchange if something goes wonky.
