Hi! I'm fairly new to the vaping thing (about 2 months). Forgive my lingo ignorance... I'm still trying to figure it all out (on top of forums since I've never used one in the past). Anyway, I've been at this for 2 months and I'm in love. Been walking around with a pack of analogs and haven't even had the desire to light one. I feel like I'm ready to move on from my "starter kit" and have been doing some research. I came across the ProVari mini and after researching some more... I WANT IT! Today, I went into my local vape store and asked what they thought. I was expecting the same response I found on the Internet but didn't quite get it. They directed me to a cheaper "starter variable" for 50 bucks. The guy told me he owns what I want but said not to get it now because I might burn this or break that... pretty much told me I'm not ready for it. The accountant in me sees another $50 stepping stone. If i bought it, I'd have invested 100 bucks into "starting" this. So... my question is, what kind of advice do you have? Should I get a cheaper one to feel the variable part of this experience out or should I just go for it and stop spending money on stepping stones?

What are you looking to get?

IMO you should skip the 50 dollar step, (though My current setup is a 30 dollar nemesis and 15 dollar igo w.) if you're really wanting to move ahead. Just do as much research as you can on youtube and the rest of the net. Find stuff you like the look of then go on youtube and look up some reviews on it, check out multiple reviews too, someone may notice something someone else didn't. Ask plenty of questions on here.. and when you have all your information lined up then go ahead and get what you want.

I won't talk crap about brick and mortar stores, but It seems to me many of them (including the one you went to) try to get you to start low so they can get more money out of you. If you came in and they suggested something with all the stuff you need to spend a few dollars a week on vaping right away you may not come in and spend money as often.

I'm new at this as well, but the way I see it,no need for 'starter kits' and stepings,as long as you do your homework well.

Provari is pretty much sure thing and will last you many years,so this is apsolutly good investment. I don't think you need to have doubts in that.

For example,at the moment I don't want to bother with batteries, chargers,so I didn't buy mech mod. I'm comfortable with passthrough EVOD 1000.
But I need backup, because that Evod will never run near as long as Provari. In the end,I will maybe spend more money on Evods,Visions, than
you on Provari :) But that's how I want it at the moment.
I will for sure go with mech some day,but not now.

If you want 'Mercedes' now,go for it. :)

For someone who had NO IDEA how, to work ecigs, clearomizers, and batteries, etc, I think the starter kit was a great place to start. There was no instructions with my eGo and EVOD setup, and so I made many stupid mistakes like taking the wick out and filling down the center because I was trying to get it to work.

Variable Voltage and Variable Wattage devices like my iTaste MVP would have been too much for me to handle because the learning curve is steep. I'm not yet into mechanicals and it's going to be awhile until I can get into them. I don't regret spending $40 on my two unit eGo starter kit. It makes a nice backup until my second MVP arrives in the mail.

The person might have been trying to make a sale, but because of how new you are, and how new I was, it's entirely possible that they were trying to start you off easy.

As everyone said just do your homework and figure out what you want to do. Askingquestions is great - I didn't do enough of that.

Good luck!

Welcome axs680 to ECF. Congrats on quitting cigarettes. I own the Vamo5, Zmax Mini and SID. Last Dec. I bought my first Provari Mini. Then last month I bought the Provari V2.....I now only use the Provaris'.

Some like them so don't but when you have it in your hands you can feel the quality that it has not to mention how flawless it is to use.

Good Luck to You.

Wow! First, thank you everyone for such quick responses! Second, thank you for making me smile again! I got back into the car with my husband and almost threw a toddler-like temper tantrum (even though he agrees with all of you). There's just something about that word "no" that makes me want something even more. I'm sure I will have a million more questions and I'm happy that I found a place with great people to answer them! :toast:

A salesman talking you into buying something cheaper. Now there's something you don't see every day.

Get the freaking Provari! No, I don't own one and never will but I've been around here long enough to know that once the seed has been planted you won't rest until you have one.

:D

You get me... you really, really get me! :p

I think one of the inexpensive Chinese VV/VW mods is an excellent tutorial tool to help people sort out if they want a more expensive device and, if so, which one would work best for their vaping preferences rather than someone else's. There is way, way too much silliness with people tending to think that the vape they personally love would be perfect for the rest of the entire vaping world. :(

The cheap VV/VW will give you an idea of what you might prefer in a menu system or even if a menu system is important to you at all. Using the device in both VV and VW mode will let you know for sure whether or not you would be happy with a VV only device.

The VV/VW device will give a safe playground to start rebuilding if that is something that interests you. You may discover that 15 watts just won't cut it for your preferences in powering a rebuildable. You also might find that you prefer RDAs over other juice delivery devices.

After all that you will have much more confidence in deciding whether you want to invest in getting a Provari, DNA 30 device, a tube mechanical or a bottom feeder like a Reo.

There may be some differences in style or operation but the basic principal is the same. Learning to use a regulated device is not hard. My biggest tip - find a "unboxing and set up" video on youtube. That has been the biggest help to me with new gear. All you are going to learn with a starter device is how that device regulates power and then when you get a Provari all you will really be learning is how it does the exact same thing. The only reason I can see not to go to the Provari is the chance that you won't like a regulated mod and will move on to something different having spent more money. But it sounds like you have done some research to get a sense of what you want. That's a chance we all take as we move along, I have 3 VV VW devices and really like being able to adjust the power based on the juice, coil & topper. I am moving along to a Reo but I am pretty sure I will still use them because I am a fickle juice chaser and I always have many flavors going at the same time.

Next up - what topper are you going with??? Whole other world and in my opinion as much to more important than the battery. Happy vaping!

I picked a "mid range priced" device after using the ego style batteries and I wished I would have saved myself the time, money and headache. While it was good in the beginning, a month later it started giving me trouble.

Don't let anyone discourage you from buying what you want. If you've done your research and feel a ProVari mini will meet your needs I say go for it! Ultimately, the goal is to stay off analogs and picking a less reliable device solely based on price will end up costing you more.
