My father has been smoking for 50 years. When I visited him recently, he was impressed with the fact that I had quit analogs using a PV, and I told him he should give one a try. I set him up with a 18350 Precise plus that I had extra. I put a fresh pro tank on there with some Copper Creek House Blend. He called me today to tell me that he finally started using it and that he only smoked 4-5 analogs today.

Thats the good news.

The bad news is that I am now in a frantic search to find him something's that will be a little more easy for him to use on a day to day basis. The easier it is for him, the more he will be inclined to use it regularly. Now my dad is a smart guy and can rebuild anything, but I can't see him doing the carto thing right off the bat, at least until I get back to see him in a month and can show him how to fill one properly.

I went straight into mods when I started vaping, so I have no experience with Egos or anything of that nature. I figured the Protank would be a good juice delivery system since it is really simple to use, fill, and replace heads. I am open to other ideas as well. People seem to like clears in general for their ease of use, but again, aside from the Protank, I haven't used any.

If this is something that sticks, I will just get him a good regulated 18500/650 mod like a Provari, but want to go simple at first in an effort to make everything as easy as possible. If I could be a part of giving my dad some extra time on this planet without that ridiculous hacking cough of his, I would be VERY happy.

I look forward to any suggestions. Please excuse me if this should be in a different sub. Seemed like this was the most natural place. Thanks in advance.

i recommend evod with ego battery
https://www.fasttech.com/products/0...vod-6-in-1-rechargeable-900mah-electronic-cig
the price is fantastic. try to get LR heads as the stock head is 2.6ohm.
I won a kit identical to this and rehomed it to my SIL who is a newbie. She loves this kit. However, I do recommend at least one VV ecig such as the spinner with a T-3 or evod head. Protanks are nice but they slightly mute flavor. A stronger ejuice would compliment the bottom coils as well.

On a different note: if your dad does not care about the size of the ecig. The vamo cannot be beat. It is affordable and utilizes the 18650 batts. Look at the kits at Fast Tech. http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/...vivi-voltage-adjustable-e-cigarette-battery-c

A replaceable-head clearo of some sort on a no-nonsense battery seems the way to go. I can't think of a setup that is less complicated to maintain than fill tank / rinse tank / replace head / charge battery. As you said, cartos are "easy", but not "simple": it's a fair deal of fiddling around. Dripping, cartotanks, and VV/VW all sounds more involved than is necessary. It's also easy to gague when it's time to refill a clearo compared to some other options.

If your father has the time and interest later on and wants to experiment or save some $, he can try his hand at rebuilding coils without buying any new equipment, too.

I'd only get a battery big enough to get your father through a day, and nothing more. Bigger might put him off to the concept when he isn't able to carry it around, and smaller might put him off out of frustration of being stuck without a charged battery.

Exactly what I am thinking re: batteries. If I go with an Ego, I would just as soon buy him a couple of kits. 1 for the office and one for home. They're so reasonably priced that there isn't any reason not to. Thanks Baz.

So he evod appears to be a bottom coil clearo like the Proank. Do they fill in the same way as the Protank? Interested in hearing about the advantages of the Evod.

Thanks for the help, guys!
Yes, they are filled in the same manner. However, the capacity is less than a Kanger T-3 and Protank. I use all three and set up SIL with Kangers as well.

filling is same and you can use protank heads with evods and vice versa.

I got my 58yo mother an eGo-C and a protank, she doesn't like technology at all. Slowly but steadily she has been vaping more than smoking. I hope she quits smoking forever in a couple of weeks.

If your father is more open minded than my mother i'd go for a couple of winders, spinners or twists and protanks or evods :)

Quick edit, just saw your post pesky_human, i tried the liqua bright tobacco it tasted kinda like gitanes without the filter. Idk if that's good or bad for tobacco vapers just my experience. I'm waiting on liqua american blend from FT too, it's supposed to taste like mb reds.

It's great that you are helping your dad get off of tobacco, but I suggest you do a bit more research. A ProVari is not "a regulated 650 mod," I'm not even clear what you mean by that description. Are you thinking of a standard 650mAh eGo?

FastTech is the rage right now, but honestly, I am a snob when it comes to batteries. I don't mind getting generic clearos and small tanks (which are often the same as the name brands), but batteries are a different matter. More people seem to have problems with the generics and if you don't have a battery, you have don't have much. Joyetech is the name brand for eGos (including Twists) and Vision for Spinners.

For new vapers just testing the water and not ready to make a big financial investment, I recommend getting quality batteries (at least two) and spending more of the budget on different delivery systems (clearos, small tanks, cartos, carto tanks, etc.) and juice flavors, since those will have a more noticeable impact on vaping than the power source.

This is a very basic Joyetech eGo kit, the same one I started with: Joye eGo Starter Kit | Electronic Cigarette Starter Kit | E Cig Kit at LiteCigUSA
The delivery system is easy to use, but nothing to write home about. I'm mentioning it because of the price.
To the kit, you can add delivery devices, for example:
Kangertech EVOD BCC eGo Bottom Coil Clearomizer
Vision MINI Vivi Nova Clearomizer Tank System
Vapeonly electronic cigarette clearomizer
Vision EgO Version 3 Clear-o-mizer
Basically anything with 510 or eGo threading
(I'm using these as examples, you may find better prices elsewhere)
I still use my 650s, by the way, they are a great size to take about and about.

If you're thinking of starting with variable voltage, this is the best kit around that I know of. It comes with delivery devices, but again I suggest trying more if within your budget:
http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

I'm sure others have chimed in with suggestions while I was typing this, but it's my two cents.

Well, I'm only 61, but if i were at the incredibly advanced age of 65, i might find a CE4 clearo that i can use and just toss easier than a Protank that i would need to figure out how to re-fill. But that may be because that's what i started with, after the obligatory fling with cigalikes.

I love my Protanks, but then again, i'm such a spring chicken...

Telling me do more research comes off as a bit snippy, honestly. I know what a Provari is. I use one daily. A regulated mod meaning a non mechanical mod with a chip that regulates voltage. I was referring to running a Provari with the extended cap and an 18650 battery. Is that clearer? I asked for help as part of my research because there are so many knowledgeable people like yourself willing to help. That's appropriate isn't it?

Again, thanks for your help.

(Cleaned up this post) I'm sure he can change protank heads and charge batteries.

If you rebuild your coils you can have him put them in a zip lock for ya.

(Edited)

My point was, and I think it was pretty clear, that I am introducing something brand new to my dad in order to change a habit he has had for 50 years. Therefore, I would like to make it as hassle free as possible. Get it?

I suppose I should have left his age out of the post so as not to offend anybody. I put it in there to illustrate that he is set in his ways and I am trying to make it easy for him. That's all.

I sincerely apologize. Since you have a Provari, I would imagine you'd understand how I might be perplexed when I read:

I have never heard of a ProVari described as a regulated 650 mod. I did read that you went straight to a mod when you started vaping, but that word can mean different things to different people. I only suggested more research as I was under the misimpression you might possibly be referring to a regulated 650mAh eGo. I'm sorry if I offended you. Good luck with helping your father on his journey.

It's all good. When I think of batteries, I think of 18350/18500/18650 as 350/500/650. I can see how it might be unclear and fixed the OP. thanks for your kind words.
