Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.

Anyways I have been vaping and off of analogs for about 3 months. When I started my newest job a year ago, they asked me if I was a smoker. I lied and said no, that I had quit. It was my first big corporate gig and I didn't want to be "the guy who smoked". So I would wear a patch during the work day and smoke after work.

Anyways, I got into vaping because B&M opened near my place and I was curious. The guys at the store were super helpful and set me up nicely. I have been enjoying it ever since and don't even think about smoking.

I felt like I got my stealth vape down pretty well so I started vaping at my desk. Keeping my setup on my chair in between my legs. The other day I got up to get some coffee and didn't realize my setup was still laying on my chair for everyone to see. When I came back to my desk my boss and a few of my co-workers started interrogating me about it.

I felt really embarrassed. I don't know why, but I know that they don't understand the nature of vaping. I got a lot of flak about doing it at work and a little flak about them believing that I was not a smoker (I'm not, but they don't get that).

Any similar situations out there?

Hello first time poster as well.

I started vaping at work about 9 months ago. I sit outside with the real smokers and cop flack from them about not really smoking as well as flack from all the non smokers.

Vaping is not as common in Australia as it is in the States or Europe so a lot of people don't understand.

I was chatting with my boss the other day and he said that he had seen my setup (Innokin VTR) but was to scared to ask what it was.

Hi, I also live in Atlanta. What's with the company's not hiring smokers in the first place? But anyways that sounds like a company I used to work for called southern prosthetic supply. I've since moved on... Seams that allot of people are in the dark about vaping.

I'm an RN and that's where I first saw a vape *lol* we can't and now a lot of the hospitals require that you're a non smoker to hire. I have a little "sneaker" eVic where I think that might be an issue.

we were on a Texas Highway Dept Ferry last night on our motorcycle, which there's no smoking, and one of the Sheriff's approached us and I thought he was going to hassle us and pretty much wanted to know what we were vaping as he'd quit smoking and he started touting how there's no "second hand smoke" effects...it was great!!

honestly for the month we've been vaping and not smoking, I've done a few puffs everywhere, eateries, the grocery stores (and a lovely old lady wanted to know what that wonderful smell was in the frozen food section *lol*) everywhere we go and I've not met with one negative yet, which is fairly amazing.

KEEP ON VAPING!!!

You are currently not lying to them. You do not smoke, you vape. If they ask if you do it at your desk tell them no and if you do then stop because they cannot tell unless they see the vapor. If they ask where you do it tell them outside.

Now if you want to vape at your desk do what I do and blow the vapor under my desk and exhale at a fast pace so the vapor is thin and does not linger.

It is illegal to vape indoors here in Jersey and most people do not realize that that law was passed 4 years ago when vaping was not so prevalent and no one was up in arms about it back then.

one nice thing about a cubicle job - mine is oriented so nobody can see me vaping at my desk.

That's how it is for me as I am tucked away in sort of a corner. However, it is against my company's policy. When I first started at my desk, I didn't know this. Of course I knew that smoking was not allowed but didn't know that vaping wasn't either. Anyway, I had a couple of co-workers comment one day that they smelled cotton candy even though I was vaping Cappuccino. Then one guy said he smelled burnt cotton candy. Since then, whenever I want a vape, I simply go down stairs to one of a couple of private bathrooms and vape in there. No issues whatsoever.

I had a bit of a moment at the barn I board my horse at. Smoking is absolutely forbidden in any barn anywhere, with good reason; the fire hazard is unsafe for the wellbeing of the horses, hay and shavings are the norm (quite flammable), and who in their right mind would endanger the wonderful beasts therein? One of the other boarders saw me vaping on my horse in the arena and said "I didn't know you smoked". I hopped off, tore down my setup, and showed her how it worked. She was not hostile, just curious, and gave me kudos for giving up the cigs (which I would NEVER have smoked in a barn!).

For me, being able to cop a vape now and then in the barn, in the heated tack room, is a godsend...I used to freeze my tail off going outside in the winter to smoke a cig! After smoking it, of course, was the finding a place to put it out and stash the stinky .... safely, all a huge hassle in thick winter gloves.

I think that not knowing is how people come to their own conclusions about anything. We don't have to sell this to them, but being open about the basic functions of our chosen nicotine delivery system can help pave the way to acceptance. I openly vape wherever I go, if I feel it is not an inconsiderate place to do so for others. Grocery, hardware store, etc.

You were not vaping in peoples' faces...you were not smugly blowing clouds, getting away with something naughty, being inconsiderate. You were staying off of cigarettes in a low profile, considerate fashion. Next time you feel "caught", simply disassemble your gear and show them how it works. Curiosity satisfied, the folks who felt odd about it, may well move on without concern. It's worth a shot!

When I started vaping it was with cig alikes with a red tip...noone really noticed. However when I moved up to a vision spinner and a carto tank I got stares but not once did someone ask me what it was. I just hated that I had to go out there with the smokers...Im not a ex smoker snob but it was aggravating with all the ashes and crap floating around. I never noticed that before I quit.

1st time poster here too (got sick of being an unregistered lurker haha)

I vape outside at work, there's 4 other vapers at work now though, so we (unintentionally) intimidate the smokers.
Been told not to do it inside.
Another co-worker thought my kayfun/nemesis setup was a pipe bomb the other day haha

I manage a pizza place that when I started there a year ago was among a whole crew of smokers. Now that I've been vaping for 3 weeks or so, my co-workers are very accepting and my boss' only stipulation is to not use it when customers are in the store, since it's a carry out location, that's not a big deal for me at all. Even more it's bringing more interest to those that smoke to ask about making the switch. So in a nut shell, no issues while vaping at work.
