So, I have my ultramax. A pain to get it here, but worth it. (See other thread for what a pain it was...)

I'll try to do a little more complete review later on, but here goes for sharing first impressions.

Others have gone on about packaging- I'm not into that. :) but I have to say- it was packed safe and secure for a long trip.

Out of the box, I tried it with a 1.8 ohm 510 atty on the regular (no RES) attachment. Button fired easily, and always. Hits a little harder than I expected- I wonder if it's more conductive than some mods? or something. Anyway, nice button, vapes good. With the ultrapure samples that came with it, it produces unholy gobs of vapor, as you'd expect with 100%vg. Not, honestly, my favorite flavor, but a nice enough tobacco taste. I'll vape it, but probably won't buy more. Great clouds of vapor, though.

Seems quality in general- it's both smalled and lighter than I expected. Glad I got the ultramax, which is pocketable enough for my needs- If it were any smaller, I'd forget it was in my pocket, and wash it with my jeans. Light enough that I won't worry about sticking it in a suit pocket, when I have the sort of days I have to dress like that.

Put the RES on- painted it, vaped. A little gurgly at first, but killer flavor. What am I gonna say- I really LIKE the flavor. And I vaped on it sort of too hard, cause I was playing with a new toy. Got my first dry hit after about 5 min of chain vaping- and it was a doozy. This thing hits nice and warm, but that means that when you get a dry hit, you are NOT going to like it. I've been playing with my technique for a the evening, and it's coming along. If it gets too wet, you blow gently into it. If it gets to dry, take a hit without firing. And it works.

Had to take a nap after trying it out, cause I overnicotined myself.

Then I went down to the pub with my father in law- the RES, when full, lasted me a couple of pints and dinner, with light to moderate vaping. Topped up with about ten drops when I got home, and am now going strong- have been for a while. Now vaping my usual juice, which is more PG. (70/30) and slowly getting used to the RES.

Overall impressions:

Like: The switch is great. Nothing to lock, nothing to fiddle with, but cannot fire in your pocket. simplicity itself. The RES works well, and I'm sure will be easier to find that "no dry hit, no flooding" nirvana as I get used to it. Seems very well made. Looks cool. Lots of vapor. Battery still going, and I've been caning it. With RES, goes a long time without dripping or filling. (But not so long that I'm stuck with the same flavor all night!)

Don't like: Honestly, no worries so far. I didn't like getting it through Korean customs, but that ain't the maker's fault. I didn't really care for the flavor of the juice it came with, but as a guy who usually uses PG, I didn't really figure I would.

Question- is the ceramic bit of the RES supposed to spin freely? I had pictured it as being fixed, but it isn't. Spins around.

Happy vaping guys- time to go play with my toy.

Isn't the ultra TINY?

I'm really surprised how small the max is- the only other 17670 mod I've seen (or that I know of) is the prodigy, which isn't huge but certainly seemed bigger.

My other, very SLIGHT concern with this mod- lacking a side button, which all my other ecigs have, it rolls. I'm worried I'll drop it off the table one day...

Seems like it's probably tough enough to take it, but I'd rather not, you know?

Best,
Ande

Glad you're liking it :) It does roll pretty good, but I haven't had any mishaps, yet. I used to stand it up when I set it down, but I knocked it over a few times and so put a stop to that practice (last thing I wanna do is break the RES). Haven't had it roll off the table, yet ;-)

Sounds like you're getting the hang of the RES pretty quickly, too. Took me about a week before I could, but it's one of the best juice feeding systems I've tried after you figure it out

Well, the Ultra is small, actually it doesn't feel bigger than an Ego type device with a standard 650 battery. But to be honest since this was my first performance ecig I was a bit scared it might be too big to go out with. Anyway, seeing the size of the Ultra I now plan to get a 18650 device... just waiting to see if Apex Vapor will release a 18650 model.

Continuing first impressions- my nicotine buzz is fading as I get used to the new toy. :)

The RES is tricky- and when you get a dry hit on a device that hits so well...kinda hurts.

But as you get used to it, it happens less- general notes: Short draws burn liquid out of the atomizer without wicking much from the RES. (Take short hits if it's too wet. Or blow some liquid back to RES.) Long draws draw liquid from the RES into the atomizer. If it's feeling a little dry, take a long hit, or a straight to the lungs hit. Or just a long draw without firing.

I have a feeling that once I get used to it, I'll just generally be drawing right to bring enough liquid into the atty, but not too much. Without having to think about it too much.

Other challenges- How much liquid is left in the RES? No idea, most of the time. ;-)

Also- to love this mod, you have to either like polishing, or like how it looks tarnished. Mine already has dark coloring where my fingers hold it, and it's only 24 hours old.
