Finally got my 510 scorpion from dietsmokes.com!

The packaging was rather simple and void of instructions, which was no big deal as I was already prepared (Thanks to all the wonderful people here on ECF!)

Also, my manual batteries do not have LED's on them, which threw me off at first.

The first impressions of the device were good. Great vapor production, good throat hit (a little harsh), and the taste was ok.

More importantly, I have had one analog since then, and I feel that it was "Sub par"... the Taste was horrible and it just wasn't satisfying anymore.

So, been vaping for two days now, so I have a few questions. Also want to

1. My friends have been trying it and complain about it being a little bit harsh. The metallic taste of the atomiser is there still, but I can understand what they mean. Will this get more mellow as the atty breaks in? Could is also be because of the amount of nic in the liquid?

2. So far with the johnson creek (thinking of trying Nhaler HV next) , it seems like all flavors have the same basic taste with hints of other flavors. I am getting an "Everything tastes almost the same" Feeling. Is it the taste of the atty that is making everything else taste masked?

3. Any increased batteries for the 510? These things are horrible on battery life.

4. And any link for a good priced PCC for 510 manual batteries?

Overall, its an excellent experience. Apart from a few road bumps listed above... I like vaping a lot more than I ever liked smoking... Even though I have gotten some REALLY weird looks.

It just shuts off it seems like. Maybe a slight wicking in vapor production, but mainly just BAM. No more Battery.

Im getting used to how much to expect out of them, but im going to pick up a battery with a LED to test that out.

I have also heard if you take more puffs than 15 in a minute it cuts off... is this the same on the Dura-C 510 batts?

But yeah, ill email him.:D

Not all come with LED's, some people don't like them, which is why. Its also a bit more stealth if you're into that :)

1. My friends have been trying it and complain about it being a little bit harsh. The metallic taste of the atomiser is there still, but I can understand what they mean. Will this get more mellow as the atty breaks in? Could is also be because of the amount of nic in the liquid?

Yes on both counts, but it could be more the flavor of the liquid than the amount of nicotine. Different liquid tastes can give an entirely different feeling on the tongue and after-taste, and it can take a few days for an atty to fully break in - especially if you've swapped atomizers.

2. So far with the johnson creek (thinking of trying Nhaler HV next) , it seems like all flavors have the same basic taste with hints of other flavors. I am getting an "Everything tastes almost the same" Feeling. Is it the taste of the atty that is making everything else taste masked?

I've never had JC... but do your carts have a liquid/wick in them, and youre dripping the other flavors? If so, you're still heating some of the liquid in the cart, mixing the two flavors.

From people I have ordered liquids from so far, the tastes do vary.

3. Any increased batteries for the 510? These things are horrible on battery life.

Yup - from 180mah (regular) to 280mah (mega or long life). They are available from Totally Wicked, I don't know where else. There are others with these longer (both physically and in terms of life) batteries. You can also go the mod route, and get anywhere from 700mah up to 3000mah batteries for all day vaping.

Congrats, good luck, and hope this helps :)

Great post SL! Not going to quote the whole thing to save space but...

1. Stealth vaping = awesome. Made Economics class much more enjoyable.

2. Swaped at first, but now staying primarly with one. Would soaking it in hot water speed up the process of breaking it in?

3. Ill check them out. Want to look more into modding but it seems like a steep learning curve? Is there a Wide world of Modding-esque guide?

DJK,

Grats on the 510!

Yes... some flavors really stick to the atty and just don't go away until you wash out the atty. I have one atty which I use only for "coffee" flavor.

I've found the 510 actually get more harsh as the fluid level gets lower. This seems to be effected by the heat of the atomizer also.

As you vary your technique you'll get more or less flavor. (to a point) If you hold the vapor in your mouth longer you'll taste it more.

As for the throat I didn't notice any change in this going from 18mg to 24mg. It does change with different flavors though.

I actually like marlboro the best as it kicks more. This helps me put down the 510 and be "done smoking." Some flavors are so smooth you could vape them nonstop.

I just received my JC sampler packet and I can confirm they all have the same basic taste. I have noticed some significant difference in a couple of them (Cherry and chocolate truffle). Other than that though they are pretty much the same with a hint of flavor.

Instead of soaking the atty in water, go to walmart or something and pick up some USP grade glycerin. Don't inhale, just use an eye dropper and drip, puff, repeat. Passes the time, clears the primer off, breaks it in, doesn't waste your juice, lets you practice puffing since its different than a cigarette, etc.

Modding can be very simple or very complex. You'll see many tutorial here, from Cisco's Laser Mod to the Nicostick. The Nicostick is the easiest mod, a simple box mod, and is a good spot to start for anyone who wants to break into mods. It should be stickied in the battery mod section :)

Don't know about any guides but I personally love the Protege 510 from PureSmoker.

Your mom said not to say...
The M401 provides the best flavor out of any of mine. I have the 401, 510 and a KR808D-1 but the m401 is still my favorite tasting one with good throat hit and adequate vapor. Can't say about the 801 or 901 since I have not used them. The KR808D-1 hits rather smooth, almost too smooth. I just got my new battery for it and it seems that I have to give it a "running start" before I get that nice warm vapor but once I do it's very nice and tasty.

1. My friends have been trying it and complain about it being a little bit harsh.
I suggest waiting for the metallic taste to go away before judging harshness.
But different juices, flavors, and nicotine levels can all have different throat hits.

Of course, that is assuming the metallic taste is primer which needs to be removed or burned off.

And then, of course it could be that you are just letting your catridge run too dry.
Might need some topping off there.

Or perhaps taking too many drags in too short a timeframe for the wicking process to keep up.
There are many ways of dealing with that too.

I think he wants to go for the 401 "dragon" (both for aesthetic purposes and reviews). Looks like all of the roomies will be getting different models, which should be excellent for comparison

DJ, I found that all my smoke juice tasted pretty much the same for the first couple of days, give your atty chance to break in, and more importantly, your taste buds!
.

I walked by this girl today and she smelled amazing...I think i am already getting a bit more sensitive to smells... which is great!

As of right now, I can already tell the difference in taste versus yesterday... so I think my atty is getting broken in...

Thanks for all the responses guys!

(Clean your atomizer, by dripping e-juice into the atomizer and blowing out through the back/battery touching end.) Repeat. Usually the taste goes away within a couple days of use. Once the dirty taste is gone, the e-juice tastes great!

2. So far with the johnson creek (thinking of trying Nhaler HV next) , it seems like all flavors have the same basic taste with hints of other flavors. I am getting an "Everything tastes almost the same" Feeling. Is it the taste of the atty that is making everything else taste masked?

(The atty is most likely masking the flavor, or you're just not used to it yet. Also Johnson creek is not one of my choice of picks. It varies on personalities though)

3. Any increased batteries for the 510? These things are horrible on battery life.

(They do sell 100 battery models for the 510, they make your cig look like an analog 100, I heard it lasts longer, but I'm not sure if they can fit a PCC Aka Personal Charger Case <--- essential to the 510.)

4. And any link for a good priced PCC for 510 manual batteries?

Wholesale & Retail Best E-smoking Supplier (cheaper, but overseas)
Batteries (not as cheap, more variety in colors + u.s = faster shipping)

(Theres a bunch of places, just look.)

Overall, its an excellent experience. Apart from a few road bumps listed above... I like vaping a lot more than I ever liked smoking... Even though I have gotten some REALLY weird looks.

Hope everything works out.
