I don't know about the thread on atty resistance.. but based on my experience with my 510 units, the nominal resistance is about 2.2 Ohms. I have never seen one (new) higher than 2.3 (on a quality Fluke DVM).

The one that came in at 1.9 Ohms has substantially different vaping characteristics than my other units. But that make sense. On a 3.7VDC source, a 2.2 Ohm atty will draw 6.2 Watts. The 1.9 Ohm atty will draw 7.2 Watts! Hard on batteries and it runs hotter... but there is a marked difference in vapor production.. as one would expect.

Of the seven 510 atomizers that I have unpackaged in my 1.5 months of use, 2 were useless right out of box (one Titan wide-band and one standard Joye). Another 2 were "OK", but their wicking is not ideal... they are easy to flood and easy to starve. That leaves three that are what I consider to be "model 510 atomizers". And of those three.. one is a 1.9 Ohm monster.

That's a pretty bad batting average if you ask me. And if somebody had unluckily gotten those two duds as their first atomizers, I could see how they'd be turned-off by the 510.

Scottbee, you hit the nail on the head...

So, after getting in my new atty and passthru and what not, I think I have figured out the issue. It was not the batteries as I originally thought. I think I just happened to get a few bum attys, which does happen and is no ones fault. The 7 second cut off is not even an issue now, because I am not hitting it with my new atty. I wanted to let everyone know not to worry about the batteries, because they are fine and I just had some bad luck with some attys. I am a vaping machine right now, and even hit it a few times with so much vapor it nearly choked me!

Wow, I must have been really lucky so far! I haven't had a bad atty "out of the box" yet. I've had them get gunky and start to have a hard draw and low vapor, but cleaning them always brings them back to life - except the one I took the wick out of, lol.

I have to wonder how much technique and the liquid come into play?

Well, I don't think its my technique, the new atty is working wonderfully for me. I do know that mg of nic does have to do with "throat hit", but not necessarily vapor production. i dont "feel" the throat hit in the lower mg juices...

I've had 1 atty bad out of the box & 1 funky auto batt. When I 1rst started the 510,which I basically started with, I had days of frustration. For all the reasons listed here.

I found that keeping 2 or 3 going all the time seems to cut down on all these gripes. They don't go through the liquid as fast, the filler last longer & the atty's last longer. I think this gives them more time to wick & you're not topping off constantly.
I also think that not running them so constant cuts down on the junk build up. I rarely have to clean attys since I started rotating between cigs.

I started re-stuffing the carts with Fluval & that seemed to solve a lot of problems as well. Better wicking, less leaking & flooding. If you get the amount just right, you can wick it dry. I stopped use the straw mod after I switched, didn't need it.
In all, I'm pretty pleased with the 510 & it's my E-cig of choice. I think it's like anything else that's mass produced, from firecrackers to cars, sometimes you get a lemon.

I also have a 306 that I use daily around the house for dipping, but kinda a hassle out & about.
I've got a 302 that I like for watching a movie because of the long cart & battery life, but my son has pretty much taking that over.(that's another story,in short he's 18 & not using tobacco anymore)

Just my two cents.

Cheers,
NB

Haven't tried it, but "they" say a drop of vodka will increase the throat hit.

I ended up stocking up on 510s from different companies and I've noticed that the quality between the batteries and atomizers vary quite a lot. My favorite 510 so far had a flat led tip instead of a rounded one and came with two atomizers. That one blinks out after holding the button for too long also, but the quality of battery and atomizer (consistent drags and battery [still short] life). Judging by the pieces I have, there are at least 3 different manufacturers. But I'd still vape them over the 801s, 901s, and m401s, anyday.

While I'm certainly sorry that you got two bum attys right out of your first box, I'm glad that you persevered and didn't get too frustrated.

Now that you've got some good hardware working for you.. enjoy!

Man, I've only had my joye510 for 10 days but I am loving this thing. It gives me perfect throat hits (which, for me, means large) and major vapor over and over again for hours per battery and I hit it constantly. I drip when I'm sitting around, but if I pack the cart up by lengthening the wicking material, dripping 6 drops, packing the wick in, and topping off with 2 drops, then 2 in the atty I get 20-30 monster hits before I have to mess with it again. I have 3 batteries and 3 attys and a pcc and the wall charger means I always have 2 batteries ready to go and it just satisfies from the time I get up until it's time to crash again. p.s. the power went out the other night and I freaked out thinking I might run out of batteries!!8-o I figured out then I need some way to charge this thing in the car (which I know is available):p

Yeah, this thing is a beast. I'm really still on my first 24 hours of vaping with the 510 (properly) and I love this thing. Yeah, the 901 gives better flavor, but really, that isn't my biggest concern. I would rather have the great vapor hit after hit. My favorite is ry4 and I am enjoying it on the 510 as much or more than I did on the 901. I liked the 901, but I felt like it was a "cheaper" model and it didnt seem to last as long as even my 401. But I got my passthru and pcc and my supplier is sending me out 2 new attys and I am set. Better stock up on juice though, cause I think I am gonna go thru it pretty quick with this monster...

Wow, I feel your pain.
I've had similar problems with the 510. I agree that part of it is technique. Here's a thread where a lot of experienced members helped me problem solve and get over the initial issues, but I still have problems with it.
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/joye-510/44983-my-510-has-no-throat-hit-help-please.html
Mine still does leak some, and I had to play with the filler, and I get odd cutoffs until the atomizer warms up. My batteries have a flat head. My atty are from various sources, some serialed Joyes, some unserialed knockoffs.
I really like the throat hit and the flavor is a lot better now. I wish I knew why some people have such a great experience with the 510 and others do not. I can only guess that it may have something to do with the original manufacturer, and with variations in the manufacturing process creating a hit-and-miss product.

kalojado,

Glad to hear its working for you. I was going to suggest new atomizers.

I have bought a total of 5 atomizers for mine. 1 of them was so-so out of the box the other 4 worked great.

From my experience most of the 510's problems revolve around atomizers that underperform. When new I have no problems at all. After a few weeks of heavy use they don't vaporize as well. This causes leaking, poor wicking, shorter battery life, poor flavor, and harshness.

I've found that over time I have to use the 510 more and more taking ever longer drags. Put on a new atomizer and all is well again.

I plan on buying atomizers whenever I buy juice. I just consider them part of the expense. I do try to clean them though.
