Got treated like a smoker yesterday

Was at work yesterday and was in the warehouse, the security guard was having a smoke at the fire exit so i decide to have a quick 2 or 3 hit vape.

about 10 minutes later my team leader says to me

"when your smoking could you do it away from the door".

i was aghast.

my reply was "it wasnt me, cos its not smoke its vapour, it doesnt smell and is gone in seconds, i dont smoke".

"well ive told you both (me and the guard) stay away from the door please"

he didnt seem bothered at what i had to say, and i was fuming, especially considering i had been vaping for four weeks in the break room and noone has even noticed.

i tried to explain to him the difference a little later and told him it was legal to vape it indoors, and he was still dismissive. however it didnt stop me from vaping in the canteen on my break.

has anyone else been made out to be a smoker?? ive not smoked for 91 days, not even craved a ..., and am a bit shocked at how bad smokers smell. although i am certainly no snob towards them, they do their thing and i do mine!

E-cigs are still a relatively new deal. Smoking has been around since the discovery of tobacco. If it looks like smoke, it is smoke to the vast majority of the world. I would not worry about it at all. You know what you are doing and why you are doing it. Just keep it on the low side as you say you are now doing. It was probably more about the quard who was actually smoking than you. Blow it off, but be aware that most people are going to assume you ARE smoking, cause that is what the see with their own eyes. Seeing is believing!

Your team leader was just being a jerk. Like Dizzy said, try not to call attention to yourself, don't be argumentative (you need the job anyway) and enjoy vaping in stealth mode LOL.

If it's any consequence, and I know it's not, I've got a sister-in-law who's the same way. Except I don't call her a jerk. I think I've used the "B" work on occasion though.

most people don't want to uncover their ignorance in public. Had a similar situation and because they confronted me in public, I pulled out my ego and took a big draw and blew a cloud. "see? no smell and count to 3, see? no more smoke. That wasn't me smoking a cig. So I recommend you getting your facts straight before calling them out in public." She went to go tattle on me to our boss like a baby but was told to mind her own business and get back to work. My boss vapes in her office all the time (guess who got her hooked? heh)
