Thanks for the great post...this is why, at least during the first year, we are rebating a full 5% back to our customers. Our actual expenses probably run even a bit higher than that. We want to get this started on the right foot and give our customers plenty of incentive to use it.

Dwolla is awesome!

We all need to set up Dwolla accounts. Dwolla is an end run around credit card companies and Prey Pal, currently the only way to pay for items on the internet. Credit card companies and Prey Pal rape the small mom and pop stores worldwide for whatever charges and fees they think they can get away with.

Both credit card companies and Prey Pal use their dominate position in the marketplace for political purposes. That is why you can't buy e-cig supplies using Prey Pal. Some executive at Prey Pal, thinking he is God, has decided that they won't accept transactions for anything to do with e-cigs. Credit card companies have recently raised their fees and charges to any vendors that sell e-cig supplies to outrages levels. Why did they do this you ask? Because they know they are the only game in town! That's why we need to use Dwolla! We need to vote with our pocketbooks.

Dwolla enables you to pay for purchases large and small right from your smartphone if the vendor excepts Dwolla. The cost to the vendor AND consumer is ZERO if the transaction is under 10 dollars! Currently credit card companies and Prey Pal charges to a vendor for an item for say $9.00 could be as high as $.57. That's why you see signs at a lot of places stating they won't take credit cards for purchases less that $10.00. Could you imagine owning a coffee shop and having most people pay with a credit card or Prey Pal? It could amount to hundreds of dollars a day in charges!

Purchases over $10.00 cost a flat rate of $.25! Yes that is correct and not a misprint! TWENTY-FIVE CENTS! Whether you spend $10.01 or $6,537.50 the cost is TWENTY-FIVE CENTS! (To the vendor or you have the option of paying the twenty-five cents.)

If a friend or family member has a Dwolla account you can also send them money this way. Kids at college?

Dwolla actually keeps your money in a credit union somewhere in Iowa. The way they process your payments is actually a bank to bank electronic transfer cutting out the middleman that used to be the credit card company or Prey Pal.

I am in no way affiliated with Dwolla. I do have an account though. I am just really mad at what the Big Banks and Financial Institutions have done to our country and economy! Our politicians seem to not be doing anything about it, so this is one way we can do something to stop these financial institutions from controlling our country and economy.

Good luck!

Pete

Great Post, Pete. I know it's a bit OT, but to elaborate on what can be done to sever ties with the big banks and avoid recent HUGE fee increases..... Take your money out and put it in a small, local bank. Better yet, a credit union. For years, I thought I was stuck at BOA because I don't have an employer with an affiliated credit union. I was wrong. There is a CU that only requires you live in my geographical are. There are NO FEES for almost anything, on-line bill pay, debit cards, cheap loans, FRIENDLY PERSONAL SERVICE and ATMs all over. And my money, what little there is, is just as safe and insured as it was with BOA. Bidding farewell to BOA felt like a hot shower after wrestling a mad pig.

Don't feed the Banksters and Prey-Pal. Open a Dwolla account and link it to your new Credit Union account.
You'll sleep better and save money too.

Well, I setup the account. It looks like I need to wait a few days before I can verify my bank account. At least I got this part done. :)

Congrats. I'd love to see enough people open Dwolla accounts so that it's a commonly accepted form of payment on the buy/Sell forum. Unlike Prey-Pal, they have a REAL arbitration process in the event of disputes as well. They don't just automatically find for the buyer and levy the seller account. They don't stick their fingers into your linked account at all unless you initiate a transfer.

I found that they make the verifyign desposits at the start of the second day so you should see them in your bank account pretty quick.

It took me about a week to set-up a Dwolla account. (It is worth it though!)

First you need bank account verification. (2 to 3 business days)
Then you need to transfer money from your bank account into your Dwolla account. (3 to 5 business days)

Then you can spend your money without giving a portion of it to BIG USA BANKING! (You are sadly mistaken if you think merchants don't pass all those bank fees onto us Joe Schmoe consumers.)

Once you have a Dwolla account there are several ways to automatically keep it filled with money. I will just briefly describe them here:

Schedule an automatic draw on you bank account once your Dwolla account drops below a dollar amount that you set. It will automatically deposit money from your bank account into your Dwolla account.

Sign up for Dwolla instant. Dwolla will front you the money you need as you purchase items. The cost for this option is a flat rate of $3.00 per month. This option is not currently available. Dwolla is actually borrowing money for you and only charging you $3.00 per month! Tell me what BIG BANK in the USA would do that for you? Just how much do you think Bank of America would charge you to borrow $100.00?

Yes, Dwolla is really that GOOD of a deal!

Pete - I have done several test deposits and it looks like they are on the mark with a 3 business day although they say 3-5 business days just in case...

The Instant thing they have now is to fund your account up to 500.00 (I think) when you first open it up BUT from what I have heard they are working on a true Instant deal and shoudl have it going I would think very soon...

Paypal has become too restrictive. The fact that they don't like vapers... well, then they don't like my money!

Danno,

I was just referring to my actual experience. This is just speculation on my part, but I think my bank doesn't like the Dwolla concept. I mean why would they? Dwolla is taking money from my bank's bottom line. If I buy from you using Dwolla it costs you either ZERO or TWENTY-FIVE CENTS. Not the DOLLARS that BIG BANKS would charge you if I used my debit card! When it says 2 to 3 days, my bank takes 3 days, when it says 3 to 5 days, my bank takes 5 days.

Yes, I think the current limit is $500.00 but I was only using $100.00 as an example.

Even better yet, how about this example if you have Dwolla instant:

You buy something for $29.75 from Gotvapes. You only have $29.50 in your bank account because your paycheck hasn't cleared yet. If you use your BIG BANK DEBIT CARD they will front you the TWENTY-FIVE CENTS for a small fee of THIRTY-FIVE DOLLARS! Then they want THIRTY-FIVE DOLLARS for every transaction after that until your check clears!

With Dwolla instant, it is a flat rate fee of $3.00 per month! A yearly total of $36.00 for up to $500.00 of overdrafts!

Let me make this perfectly clear:

I am just an ordinary every day customer of Gotvapes. I have absolutely no ties with Dwolla except I have a Dwolla account. I am just REALLY p#@!#d off at how the BIG BANKING INDUSTRY has gotten off Scott-free after ruining the value of my home, my 401k and put our nation's economy into a REALLY bad recession!

This is just my small way of fighting back. God knows our politicians aren't doing it for us.

So basically the way it works is that you transfer money to DWOLLA from your attached bank account, wait about three days for it show up in your DWOLLA account, and then use the DWOLLA account to pay for your purchase, correct?

Until they set up the instant transfer deal for 3 bucks a month?

Yes, that is perfectly correct!

It is as close to using cash on the internet as you can get.

I've done final testing with Dwolla and its all workign as planned.

To review here are your steps for using Dwolla and receiving your 5% Back on all purchases:
1. Sign up for your Dwolla account at http://www.dwolla.com.
2. Once signed up add a bank account. Dwolla then sends you two deposits less than a dollar within 24-48 hours. You then verify those bank deposits in your Dwola account. Initiate a bank transfer of whatever you wish. It takes about 3 business days at present (they will soon have instant)
3. Load your cart and on the payment page you will now see a Dwolla payment option beneath the credit cards where you enter your Dwolla ID.
4. Dwolla sends you a payment key to your email that you used when signing up for Dwolla. Go to your email and copy that.
5. On the final checkout page beneath the list of what you ordered you will see an area to enter that payment key, hit confirm and that's it! You remain on the GotVapes site, you will not be taken to a Dwolla payment page- eeezy - peezy.
6. ON the first of the month of each quarter I will tally your 5% bonus and send to your GotVapes email your store credit in the form of a Gift Cerificate that you may use all at once or partially until your Gift Certificate is exhausted!

The first four GotVapes customers to use their Dwolla to order $40.00 or more or merchandise on their first Dwolla purchase will receive a free GotVapes tee.

I want to congratulate Andrei G. for beign our first dwolla customer.

Andei helped me trouble shoot a quirk with the system. When you go to pay enter your Dwolla ID before you get to your order total (where discounts are calulated), the total BEFORE discounts is sent to Dwolla. If you don't have enough funds to cover the total before discounts DWOLLA errors out with an insufficient funds message to your email.

This is a pre-auth and not what you would actually send GotVapes (you would actually only be charged what you see on that final page). So until I figure out a solution make sure you have a bit more in your account that might cover for the Newsletter discount and the Super VIP discount if you are due one.

They say 5 days but mine came through just after 48 hours. They are working on makigng that truly instant from what I understand.

I got my account set up and verified, but if my first transfer is any indication of typical turn-around, they really need to work on it. 5 days so far and still "Pending".
